The courtyard is next to the foyer and is outside. There is a roof over the courtyard in case it rains. There will be families and children playing. It might be busy.
There will be a lot of things to do in the courtyard. There will be a play gym and a chalk board. There will also be face painting and craft activities. You can play too- but you don t have to if you don t want to.
Before the show starts, you might need to go to the Box Office to get your tickets. You might need to wait in a line. You might need to go to the toilet before the show starts. Don t worry, there are bathrooms there for you to use.
Riverside Theatres has 3 different theatres. They are called Riverside, Lennox and Rafferty s. The show you are seeing is on in the Lennox Theatre. There is a sign out the front of the Lennox Theatre with a number 5. An usher will meet you and tell you when it s time to go inside. The theatre is a special place and the lighting in the room is often quite dim. There should be enough light to see where you are going.
Inside the theatre there are red seats. Your teacher or an usher will tell you which seat to sit in. When the show starts, the lights will turn down low but don t worry it won t go completely dark. This is the time to sit quietly and watch the show. If you need to talk to your friends or family during the show you can whisper. You will be seeing a theatre show, not a movie. There will be real people on stage. They are called the performers. When you watch a show you are called the audience.
In this show the performers will use puppets to create the story. Grug is a puppet. Grug is fascinated by the world around him. He solves everyday problems creatively and without fuss. Performers may come into the audience and ask for help. You may know the answer to their question but it s also ok not to know.
There may be some flashing lights. They will only flash for a short amount of time. If you don t like the flashing you can cover your eyes. You can watch highlights from the show at Windmill Theatre Company s website. https://windmill.org.au/show/grug-and-the-rainbow/ When the show is finished, people will clap their hands. This is to thank the performers. You can clap too if you want to, or if it is too loud you can put your hands over your ears.
When the performance is finished, you will leave Riverside. You will leave through the sliding doors again. It s great fun to go to the theatre! Near Riverside Theatres there is the river to walk or sit beside if you want a space away from the busy theatre, There is also a park next to the theatre.
