Inspired by a traditional African tale, this read-aloud picture book by Julia has been beautifully brought to life by illustrator Helen Oxenbury and is full of suspense and humour that little ones will love! Below are some suggestions for using the pack and, overleaf, details of The Giant Jumperee drawing competition. We hope you enjoy using the pack in your library. Best wishes from all at Puffin Before reading the story, you could ask the children: Has anyone ever played a joke on you / have you ever played one on someone else? What is the most scary animal/monster you can imagine? / What is the least scary animal? What do you think that a rabbit would find most scary, or a cat, or a bear, or an elephant? Would these always be the same animals? During the story You may like to use the finger puppet cut outs as part of the story as you read aloud, or ask different children to be Elephant, Cat, Rabbit and Mummy Frog. After reading the story, you could ask the children: What did you imagine was hiding in Rabbit s burrow? Why do you think that all the animals were so scared when they heard the voice of the Giant Jumperee? How do you think the animals felt when they discovered that the Giant Jumperee

When the children have completed this drawing activity, please send to Kimberley Sheehan at The ing Agency and they will be entered into The Giant Jumperee Library Drawing Competition, with the chance to win one of five The Giant Jumperee picture books, signed by Julia! After this date no further entries to the competition will be permitted. 2. The Competition is only open to entrants in the UK. 5. Any contact information will only be used if you are selected as a winner. All entrants data will be kept until the winner has received their prize and within 30 days of the winner being confirmed, the data will be destroyed. 6. There will be five winners. 7. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason. 8. The winners will be notified via email. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 7 days of notification, the Organiser reserves the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner. 9.
