CLARENCE BROWN THEATRE The Clarence Brown Theatre Company is a professional theatre company in residence at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Founded in 1974 by Sir Anthony Quayle and Dr. Ralph G. Allen, the company is a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and is the only professional LORT company within a 150-mile radius of Knoxville. The University of Tennessee is one of a select number of universities nationwide that are affiliated with a professional LORT theatre, allowing students regular opportunities to work alongside professional actors, directors, designers, dramaturgs, and production artists. The theatre was named in honor of Knoxville native and University of Tennessee graduate, Clarence Brown, the distinguished MGM director of such beloved films as The Yearling and National Velvet. In addition to the 575-seat proscenium theatre, the CBT s facilities house the costume shop, electrics department, scene shop, property shop, actors dressing quarters, and a 100-seat Lab Theatre. The Clarence Brown Theatre Company also utilizes the Ula Love Doughty Carousel Theatre, an arena theatre with flexible seating for 350, located next to the CBT on the University of Tennessee campus. The Clarence Brown Theatre has a 19-member resident faculty, headed by Calvin MacLean, and 25 full-time management and production staff members. SEASON FOR YOUTH At the Clarence Brown Theatre, we recognize the positive impact that the performing arts have on young people. We are pleased to continue our commitment to providing high-quality theatre for young audiences with our 2015/2016 Season for Youth Student Matinees. We have selected three productions designed to engage young people and expose them to the wonders of the theatre. We hope you and your students will join us this year for one of our most exciting seasons ever! The Clarence Brown Theatre would like to make your visit a memorable experience by offering several incentives: Each student ticket is only $6. One complimentary chaperone ticket will be issued per 10 students. [For groups of 30 or less, a maximum of 3 chaperones will be allowed to ensure that as many students as possible have the opportunity to attend our productions.] A teacher s guide will be sent to you prior to the performance to help you prepare your students. In order to make a reservation, you must submit an order form via email to the address listed on the order form. No reservations will be taken by phone. Ticket subsidies for schools are available through the Tennessee Arts Commission of Greater Knoxville. The application and guidelines can be accessed from http://tnartscommission.org/grants-at-a-glance

John Steinbeck s adventure paints an inspirational portrait of the American spirit and a heartbreaking testament to the bonds of friendship. American Theatre Wing This classic follows two migrant workers during the 1930s dustbowl depression who drift from job to job across the farms and fields of California, holding fast to their friendship and dream of one day having an acre of land they can call their own. Don t miss this one it d be like celebrating the season without a Christmas tree or carols or gifts! Knoxville News Sentinel A Christmas Christmas Carol Carol Whether you are continuing your annual family tradition or beginning a new one...join us as we tell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly businessman who needs the intervention of a few spectral guides to show him the true meaning of Christmas. Featuring beautiful live music, wonderful costumes, and exciting stage effects, Dickens tale of hope and redemption reminds us all what s really worth celebrating. The story s wrenching power lies not in its outrage but in the almost inexplicable grace the characters must muster as their only resistance to being treated like lesser beings. The New Yorker It s 1948 in a small plantation community in the heart of Cajun country. A young man, jailed for a murder he did not commit, will soon lose his life and has lost his self-respect. A young teacher, with most of his life ahead of him, has lost respect for the situation in which he lives. Both men teach each other the lessons they need to face their very different futures with dignity and strength. The CBT is pleased to be partnering with the Knox County Public Library on a series of ancillary events associated with this production.
