However, the CA ELD s do not repeat the Common Core State s for ELA, or represent ELA content at lower levels of achievement or rigor. Rather, the CA ELD s are designed to provide challenging content in English language development for ELs to gain proficiency in a range of rigorous academic English language skills. The CA ELD s are not intended to replace the Common Core State s for ELA but instead to amplify the language knowledge, skills and abilities of those Common Core State s that are critical in order for ELs to simultaneously be successful in school while they are developing English.
