Biograph aphy 2006 Singer-songwriter is emerging internationally as a well respected, blossoming songstress. Earning top billing amongst world-renowned reggae and Canadian urban artists, the gifted and talented performer is primed for a global audience. Belinda has worked with some of reggae s top recording artists such as Shaggy and Julian Marley and has now taken centre stage to shine on her own. She has built a repertoire of songs with captivating combinations of rock, reggae, pop and soul, which are emotionally charged and passionate. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Belinda comes from strong musical roots. Her father Carl Brady is a long time member of the legendary soca/reggae music group Bryon Lee and Dragonairs. By age eleven Belinda began her own musical journey performing with the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company where she developed in music, dance and acting. At thirteen, her mother gave her, her first guitar and she tought herself to play, sing and write songs, she later toured as a back-up singer with Julian Marley. 1995-1996 Belinda became back-up singer, choreographer and dancer on the Bombastic Tour with reggae superstar Shaggy. The experience helped to prepare and develope her as a performer. In 1997 she graduated from the Harris Institute of the Arts in production and audio engineering. Belinda has since written internationally recognized songs and in addition to her artist status she is a much sought after songwriter and producer. The talented entertainer is a two time Juno Nominee for her hit singles Flex (1998) and Gifted Man (distributed in 2003 by EMI on the Master T Reggae Vibes Compilation). Belinda also won the Canadian Urban Music Award for Too Late (1999) for best R&B single. She has enjoyed major commercial airplay across Canada and the Caribbean with singles Want Something and Free your Mind produced by legendary duo Sly and Robbie. Belinda met Canadian Music Executive In 2003; Flex became her manager and was so impressed with her music he agreed to sign her to his record label Plasma Cooperation. She is extremely gifted and an outstanding musician, said Flex. Belinda s contemporary approach to song writing and vocal presentations represents all of the musical genres that have inspired her artistry including Rock, Folk, R&B and Reggae. Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, India Arie and Alanis Morrissette, are some of the musical geniuses that motivated and influenced her sound and lyrics which lead her to write with such meaning, soul and incredible passion. NAKED, the consequential title of s debut album is a body of work that consists of raw emotions and screams sensuality and sensitivity. Songs like I love you too much, I Cried and Get out, express her maturity, honesty and is reflective of a complicated spiritual journey both musical and personal.
