Artistic & Production Staff: Director: Dusten Welch Musical Director: Kathy Bergin Johnson Choreographer/Stage Manager: Meredith Maiorana Theater Education Coordinator: Christine A. Madden, (440) 337-1401, cmadden@solonohio.org Office Hours: Tues. 9 pm - 4:30 pm, Thurs. 9 am - 4:30 pm & Fri 11 am - 6 pm *Times when Christine is most available to talk. The Show: is a delightful new show based on the beloved characters of A.A. Milne and the 2011 Disney animated feature film. Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship, and sharing snacks. The Directors: Dusten Welch (Director) After receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater from Ashland University, Dusten Welch spent two years as an Actor-Teacher with The Great Lakes Theater Festival s education department. He has been an instructor at SCA since the summer of 2009 and also teaches theater and stage combat at many area schools and theaters. He is very excited about this opportunity to direct another production with the wonderful students at SCA. Kathy Bergin Johnson (Musical Director) graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Music from Mount Holyoke College and has taught music to grades K - 8 in public and private schools since 1982. As a performer, Kathy has been heard as a member of the Blossom Festival Chorus. She has taught SCA Arts4Kids music classes since 2007 and Music Directed the Stories on Stage Musical since its inception in 2011. Meredith Maiorana (Choreographer/Stage Manager) is a 9 th grader at Solon High School and a member of the SHS Drama Club. Meredith stage managed last year s Stories on Stage musical Willy Wonka-Kids! and she is excited to be returning to SCA again to stage manage and choreograph this production. She is also the author of Shredded, a one-act play about school bullying which won third place in the 5 th Annual SCA Playwriting Festival in 2013. Rehearsals at SCA: Regular Rehearsals will be held at SCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:30 pm - 8:00 pm) from January 21 - March 20, 2014. *Students are permitted 2 excused absences during this time period (2 late arrivals or early dismissals from a significant amount of a rehearsal will equal 1 absence). We do ask that these be requested in writing at least a few days in advance so that we may make proper scheduling changes. At the very least, SCA requires a call in advance to alert staff in the event that a student will be late or absent from rehearsal. Technical & Dress Rehearsals: Tech week will begin the week students return from : March 31, April 1 and 2 (6:00 pm - 8:00 pm). We DO NOT permit absences once tech week begins. Tech week (the period of time which encompasses all Technical and Dress Rehearsals) is a very intensive part of the rehearsal process which involves putting all the technical elements and costuming of the project together. Absences during this time are not permitted because they are very disruptive not only to the technical process, but also to other cast members. A no call, no show or an absence during the mandatory tech week rehearsals will result in the student s removal from the production.

Performances: Thursday, April 3 (7:00 pm) *Student Call Time 5:30 pm Friday, April 4 (7:00 pm) *Student Call Time 5:30 pm Saturday, April 5 (12:00pm & 2:30 pm) *Student Call Time 10:30 am, Snack Time 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm Cast Party There will be a cast party following the 2:30 pm performance on Saturday, April 5. Attire and Materials: Each student should come to rehearsal in comfortable attire that they can move well in. Students with long hair should have it tied back for each rehearsal. Other important materials which should be brought to each rehearsal include: dance shoes, a notebook, the show script and score, a pencil, a water bottle, extra work and a snack (or money for the vending machine). Dinner & Snacks: Students should make every effort to eat dinner before arriving to rehearsal. Only if eating dinner beforehand is 100% unavoidable should it be brought to SCA. Students are encouraged to bring a snack (or money for the vending machine) to every rehearsal. Scripts: Scripts are the student s to keep. Please encourage your student to write their name in their script and to take good care of it, only writing in it in pencil. If a script is lost, there will be a $10 fee to replace it. Costumes and Show T-Shirts: A show t-shirt is available for purchase at an additional fee of $8.00. Costumes and props will be acquired by the parent volunteers and the parents of each student. *More information will come via email from the parent volunteers and Christine Madden. Video Taping The video taping or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited by Music Theater International. Ticket Information: Winnie tickets are $4.00. They will go on sale to cast members only, beginning Monday, February 3. Christine Madden will email all parents a ticketing link that day, and all parents who have volunteered will also receive a comp code good for 2 comps. Tickets for the general public will go on sale beginning Monday, February 17. SCA does not automatically reserve any tickets for parents of cast members. All ticket transactions are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. For this reason, please be sure to order tickets for all the shows you wish to attend and claim any comp tickets you are owed from volunteering. Photo Release: In an attempt to increase community awareness for the Spotlight Youth Theater Program, SCA would like to post pictures and/or video of upcoming productions on the internet and local television stations. If SCA does not already have a photo release form on file for your student, please completely fill out the form that has been provided to you this evening and return it to Christine Madden. If a completed Photo Release is not on file for your student by the time the cast picture is taken, SCA will be unable to allow your student to participate in the photo.

Volunteers: Volunteers are essential to each and every production at SCA! Each family who signs up for one or more jobs listed below will receive 2 free tickets to the show of their choice. If you are interested in helping to bring this production to life, please sign up for a volunteer position by emailing Christine Madden with your volunteer preference by Tuesday, January 28. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: *Volunteers during performances are asked not to leave their job unattended until released by an SCA staff member. SCA Volunteers, unless purchasing or using one of their complimentary tickets, will not have a reserved seat at the performance. Show Marketing (4 parents) Costumes & Props (2-4 parents) Cast Party (2-4 parents) Ushers (4 parents per performance) Between Show Snack (2 parents) Backstage Help (5 parents) These volunteers are asked to pass out at least 20-30 fliers throughout the community. These fliers will be provided to each volunteer by the beginning of February. These volunteers will assist the director in acquiring costumes and accessories for the students. The director will give the props and costume list to the parent volunteers in early February. All items must be gathered by the Thursday, March 20 rehearsal. These volunteers will assist with the passing out of desserts and beverages at the cast party on Saturday, April 5 after the 2:30 pm performance. These volunteers will tear tickets, usher audience members to their seats and distribute programs at one performance. Volunteers must arrive 45-minutes prior to the performance that they have been assigned to and report to Christine Madden. These parents will supervise and help organize any food donations, as well as set up and clean up for the snack time between shows on Saturday, April 5 from (1:15 pm - 2:00 pm). These volunteers will assist by being an adult presence back stage during either the dress rehearsals or one of the performances.
