System Overview The system is designed to give the presenter a wide variety of sources to use to communicate ideas and practices to the audience while providing an intuitive user interface to allow for easy operation of the system. Sources available to the presenter include: Mac and PC computers, both with dual output video cards. A document camera directed toward the podium. The document camera can be used to show text documents, pictures, or notes written on the whiteboard located on the podium. VCR and DVD Two connections to allow presenters the ability to connect their owner furnished laptops to the audio visual system for viewing. A composite video connection, to allow presenters the ability to bring in any device outputting composite video and connect it to the audio visual system. Fire wire and USB connections to the Mac and PC to allow users the ability to bring in peripherals to connect to the system. 3
System Overview Cont. A 17 touch panel, located on the podiums, provides the user with a central location to control the functions of the audio visual system. This touch panel also acts as the monitor for the presenter. Controls available via the touch panel include: Displays on/off and input selection Projection screen raise and lower Source Selection (Mac, PC, DVD, VCR, Laptop 1, Laptop 2, and Video) Volume Control VCR and DVD transport controls, (play, stop, pause, etc.) Document camera zoom in/out and focus Lighting Control 4
Touch Panel In Power Save Mode Touch panel goes into a hibernation mode when inactive for a certain amount of time. If the touch panel looks like this (appears to be off), touch anywhere on the touch panel screen to awaken the touch panel for use. 5
Main Page Turn Displays On/Off (See Page 7 for detailed explanation) Choose source to view. (See page 7 for detailed explanation) Hold Tech button for 3 seconds for more controls. (See page 17 for details) Niles controls. (See Page 8 for detailed explanation) Shut Down System If the system was shut down properly, this will be the first page the presenter will see. Use this page to choose a source, control volume, turn displays on and off, and shutdown the system 6

Touch video in full screen mode to bring touch panel back to this configuration. 7 Turn Displays On/Off Control the selected sources volume level with the + and - buttons Press Exit to return to Main Page. Select source to view from buttons above. (MAC, PC, Doc Cam, DVD, VCR, Laptop 1, Laptop 2, or Video) The picture above shows MAC selected as a source. Once a source is selected it will be shown in the video window. The color bars above represent where the MAC video is displayed. You can touch the full screen button to have the video fill the entire screen. The touch panel will act as your monitor. When video is full screen on the monitor, touch anywhere on the touch panel screen to revert the touch panel back to the layout above. Once you have chosen your source and you are ready for the audience to view it, touch the Displays On button. The projection screens will drop and the projectors and LCD monitors will turn on (if applicable). The audience will now be viewing the source selected on the touch panel. When finished with displays use the Displays Off button to turn off the displays. When the displays off button is pressed, the projectors and LCD monitors will turn off and the screens will retract. A counter will start in the Projector Wait button located next to the sources. You will not be able to turn the projectors back on for 3 minutes until their cool down cycle is complete.
Niles Control Pad The PROJ and SELECT buttons are no longer used in the system. These controls are now done automatically. Sources available to view from the Niles pad are VCR, DVD, and CMPTR (PC). Selecting a source from the Niles control is the same as selecting a source from the buttons at the top of the touch panel page. Power button will turn off all displays If VCR or DVD is selected as a source, these buttons can be used to control play, stop, pause, etc. The volume level for the system can be controlled using the volume up and down arrows. The Niles controls are available on the touch panel for users who are more comfortable using the Niles controls. These controls are similar to the Niles located throughout campus. 8
MAC Selected Turn Displays On/Off Control the MAC volume level with the + and - buttons and the Niles arrow up and down buttons. Touch button to make video full screen. Use the keyboard and mouse located on the podium slide out drawer to control MAC. The color bars indicate where you will be viewing the MAC image on the touch panel. Touch full screen to have the MAC image full screen on the touch panel. Also, the users have the ability to connect peripherals to the system via the USB and fire wire cables located in the black box (cable cubby) on the podium surface. Open the box to expose the cables for use. Then, pull the cables out and attach to your device. There are two sets of cables. Use the side labeled MAC USB and Fire Wire. 9

Doc Cam Selected Turn Displays On/Off Hold Tech button for 3 seconds to get to Doc cam controls. Touch button to make video full screen. Touch video in full screen mode to bring touch panel back to this configuration. The image above shows Doc Cam selected as a source. The document camera is installed to show images from the documents or items located on the podium workspace. Users of the system are able to use the document camera to view documents, notes written on the provided whiteboard, or essentially anything that is able to fit on the podium. Controls for the document camera are available on a Tech page. Push Tech button for 3 seconds to get to document camera controls. Controls for the document camera are discussed on following page. 11
Doc Cam Controls Tech Page 12 The image above shows the Tech Page with the Doc Cam controls enlarged. Controls available for the Doc Cam include, zoom in, zoom out, auto focus, freeze, and memory store (presets). Use the zoom in and zoom out buttons to enlarge or decrease the size of the viewing area. The auto focus can be used if an item appears to be out of focus. Push the auto focus button and the doc cam will automatically focus the image. The freeze button tells the doc cam to take a snap shot of the image that is being displayed and keep that image active until the freeze is turned off. This would allow the user to show a document, press freeze, and the document would stay on the screen while the user changes to a new document. Once the new document is in place, you can select freeze off and the audience will see a seamless change between to the two documents. The memory store allows the user the ability to zoom the document camera to a desired size and save it to a preset. Once the preset is saved, press the memory retrieve number corresponding to number where the preset was saved and the camera will revert back to the saved size.
DVD Selected Turn Displays On/Off Play, stop, and pause control available via the Niles pad Use arrows on the Niles pad to navigate DVD. Control the DVD volume level with the + and - buttons and the Niles arrow up and down buttons. Touch button to make video full screen. Touch video in full screen mode to bring touch panel back to this configuration. Use buttons to control DVD player The image above shows DVD selected as a source. The DVD player is located inside the podium and is labeled DVD. This is the stand alone unit not the VCR/DVD combination. Please do not use the DVD player in the VCR/DVD combination. Insert DVD disc into the DVD player and verify the unit is on. Control DVD with the play, stop, pause, etc. buttons above. The Niles pad can also be used for play, stop and pause. The arrows on the Niles pad are used for DVD navigation. 13
VCR Selected Turn Displays On/Off Play, stop, and pause control available via the Niles pad Use arrows on the Niles pad to fast forward, rewind VCR. Control the VCR volume level with the + and - buttons and the Niles arrow up and down buttons. Touch button to make video full screen. Touch video in full screen mode to bring touch panel back to this configuration. Use buttons to control VCR player The image above shows VCR selected as a source. The VCR player is located inside the podium and is labeled VCR. Insert VCR tape into the VCR player and verify the unit is on. Control VCR with the play, stop, pause, etc. buttons above. The Niles pad can also be used for play, stop and pause. 14
Laptop Selected Turn Displays On/Off Control the laptop volume level with the + and - buttons and the Niles arrow up and down buttons. Touch button to make video full screen. Touch video in full screen mode to bring touch panel back to this configuration. The image above shows Laptop 1 selected as a source. To connect a laptop to the system, open the black cable box (cable cubby) located on the podium working surface. Inside the cable cubby will be two VGA cables. One cable is labeled Laptop 1 the other is labeled Laptop 2. Pull either cable out and connect to the laptop. The VGA cable also comes with audio. Connect the audio cable to the laptop if you want the laptop s audio to be heard in the room. Select either Laptop 1 or Laptop 2 from the sources above, depending on which cable you connected to the laptop. If the laptop is sending a video signal you will see the laptop image on the touch panel. 15

Touch video in full screen mode to bring touch panel back to this configuration. The image above shows Video selected as a source. To connect a video source to the system, open the cable box located on the podium work surface. Inside you will see three, color coded, RCA inputs. These inputs allow the user to connect a composite video source and left and right audio to the system. Most equipment outputting composite video will have outputs color coded the same as the inputs in the cable cubby. Yellow is video. White is left audio. Red is right audio. Once you have connected the equipment to the inputs and selected Video as a source, you should see the video from the equipment on the touch panel. 16
Tech Page Push Tech arrow to go to additional tech controls. Push return to go to Main page. Document Camera controls discussed in detail on page 11. The Tech Page is reached by holding the Tech button on the main page for three seconds. The Tech Page gives users access to lighting control, microphone volume control, and some display control. The following pages provide a more detailed description of the controls available via the Tech Page. 17
Tech Page Lighting Control 18 The image above shows the Tech Page with the Lighting controls enlarged. Users are able to control the lighting via the touch panel. Use the Down Lights button to dim the down lights in the rooms. You can hold the minus button down until the desired lighting level of the down lights is achieved. Use the Down Lights + button to raise the level of the down lights in the room. The fluorescent lights in the room can either be turned on or off. The fluorescent lights do not dim. Each room contains two zones of fluorescent lighting. Use the FLR. LIGHTS + button to turn on the fluorescent lights and use the FLR. Lights - button to turn off the fluorescent lights.
Tech Page Sound Push return to go to Main page. The image above shows the Tech Page with the Sound controls enlarged. Users have the ability to control the level of the program audio, the handheld microphone audio, and the headset microphone audio, from the controls on this page. The program audio is the audio from the source that has been selected on the Main Page. Use the plus and minus buttons next to the buttons labeled Program, Handheld Mic., and Headset Mic., to raise and lower the volume levels of these sources. 19
Tech Page Screen & Displays 20 The image above shows the Tech Page with the Screen & Displays controls enlarged. The Screens & Displays controls give the user the ability to individually raise and lower the projection screens, mute the video (Projectors Only), and change the viewing format from 16:9 to 4:3. To raise and lower the screens, use the up arrow to raise the screen and the down arrow to lower the screen. Screen A is the left screen if you are standing in back of the room looking at the projection screens. Displays A are the left projector and LCD monitor if you are standing in the back of the room looking at the projection screens. To mute the projectors, press the mute button associated with projector you would like to mute. Press the mute button again to un-mute the projector. The mute buttons only mutes the projectors. LCD monitors do not have the ability to be muted and are always active. To change the viewing format of the projector and LCD monitors use the Cinema/4:3 button. This will change both the projector and monitor to either Cinema (16x9) or 4:3. The button displays which format the displays are in.
Tech Page Continued Push Tech(cont.) to return to Tech Push return to go to Main page. The Tech Page Continued is reached by holding the Tech button on the Main Page down for three seconds. Then, push the Tech > (Tech button with the right arrow next to it). This will bring you the page shown above. Through this tech page users have the ability to assign sources to different projectors and to view two sources on the touch panel video window. For example, the user can be viewing the PC on Projector A and the MAC on Projector B, while viewing the laptop on the touch panel at the same time. 21
Video Router The video router lets the user mix and match sources to view at the displays and touch panel. The page is set up like a matrix. On the left side of the matrix, find the display you would like to view. Find the source to which you want to send to the display. Push the button where the two intersect and the source will be sent to the selected display. The audio heard will always be the source being viewed on Projector A. The sources available for viewing include: 1. PC (Prime) - Primary window of PC in a dual monitor configuration. 2. PC - Secondary window of PC in a dual monitor configuration. 3. Mac (Prime) Primary window of Mac in a dual monitor configuration. 4. Mac Secondary window of Mac in a dual monitor configuration 5. Doc Document Camera 6. VCR Two different video sources cannot be viewed simultaneously on different displays. Ex. You could not have VCR on Projector A and DVD on Projector B. Once VCR is selected it will be seen on both projectors. 7. DVD Two different video sources cannot be viewed simultaneously on different displays. Ex. You could not have DVD on Projector A and VCR on Projector B. Once DVD is selected it will be seen on both projectors. 8. Laptop 1 9. Laptop 2 10. Video - Two different video sources cannot be viewed simultaneously on different displays. Ex. You could not have Video on Projector A and DVD on Projector B. Once Video is selected it will be seen on both projectors. The image above shows Mac displaying on Projector A (left projector), the secondary window of the PC displaying on Projector B (right projector). The touch panel is displaying the secondary window of the PC and Laptop 1. When two images are chosen for viewing on the touch panel, the video window on the touch panel is split into two windows to show both sources. 22
System Shutdown Push to shut down system. 23 System shut down is accomplished from the Main Page. If you are on a Tech page, you will need to press return until you reach the source selection page. From the source selection page press the exit button and you will return to the page above. Press the shutdown button. The displays will turn off, the screens will retract, the document camera will turn off, and the audio will be reset to the start up level.
