ISDB-T History In Japan, the Digital Broadcast system is formally referred to as ISDB-T. ISDB-T is a series of standards which define digital video and audio services ISDB-T SB is a variation of ISDB-T for Sound Broadcasting The ISDB-T and ISDB-T SB specifications were developed by ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Businesses) http://www.arib.or.jp/ All digital terrestrial TV broadcasts are on UHF band. ISDB-T SB (1 or 3 segments) test transmission was started on VHF 7 ch. October 10 2003. All analog TV transmission must be switched off by July 2011. May not be copied or reprinted without prior written approval. 5 ISDB-T System Overview: Segments The full data multiplex is broken down into segments 1 segment, 3 segment and 12 segment services are defined 1 segment can handle audio and low-bit rate video, suitable for very small (mobile phone) screens 3 segment can handle mid-size (7 ) screens 12 segment can do full-resolution digital television Radio services are a subset of digital television services; 1 segment or 3 segments are defined as digital Radio services ISDB-T SB can carry audio, video and data in any segment ISDB-T SB is permitted only 8 segments total Copyright 2005 KENWOOD All rights reserved. Ch.7 (188-192MHz) are assigned for the ISDB-T SB broadcast channel. Output RF Power was increased to 2.4kW from February 19 2007 (8 segments x 300W per segment).
