Task One: Let s Go to the Zoo Mrs Brown is talking to Ben. Listen to their conversation. After each part of the conversation, answer the question. Put a cross in the box under the correct picture. No I was with some friends in the playground and then I went to the park to meet John. The correct answer is B. Now answer the other questions. Number 1: How did Mrs Brown get the ticket for the zoo? I ve got some news Ben. I ve got a family ticket for Oxley Zoo. Did you get it on the internet? No, I was in town speaking to Dad on my mobile, and then I saw my friend Mary. She gave it to me. That s great. Number 2: How much did Mrs Brown s family ticket cost? Oxley Zoo s expensive Mum. Ten pounds per person. Yes but Mary gave me this one for twelve pounds fifty. And it s a family ticket. Wow! Usually a family ticket is twenty five pounds. I know. 1
Number 3: Who has been to Oxley Zoo before? Anna went to Oxley Zoo with the school last year, didn t she? No, Mum, that was Sophie. Anna hasn t been there. Oh yes. That s right Ben. And when we go, it ll be my first time too. Number 4: When might it rain? So when are we going Mum? Well, it s definitely not going to rain on Saturday or Sunday and we do want good weather. Yes but it could be wet on Friday. They said that on TV. Number 5: What is Sophie doing on Sunday? It s not a good idea to go on Sunday Mum. Why not? Have you got a swimming lesson Ben? No but Sophie s got a piano lesson. At the music school. Number 6: What can the Browns see at the zoo at 12.30pm? At the zoo, can we see the crocodiles eating their food? Yes but that s quite late. Before that, at half past twelve they give the lions their food. Wow. There s a small cinema too and in the mornings they show films of elephants. 2
Number 7: What will be the most interesting animal for Anna? Do you want to see the sharks Mum? Yes and the butterflies. I want to see the snakes. So does Anna. She s really interested in them. She s doing a school project about them. Number 8: What is Ben going to take to the zoo? I m taking my mobile phone with me to the zoo. It s a camera too. No, don t do that. You ll lose it. You can use mine. OK but I m taking my animal book. I can read about the different animals. You will now hear the conversation again. Now listen to the example. I ll do that on Sunday. I don t like doing homework on Saturdays. Number 3: When did Ben last go to a zoo? How many zoos have you been to, Ben? Lots but I haven t been to one since last summer. And you didn t go on the school trip to the zoo in January? No I was ill. I couldn t go. Number 4: What time are the Brown family going to meet Alex? What time are you planning to leave, Ben? Not before nine o clock I hope. No, we ll come for you at ten Alex. I think we ll get to the zoo about eleven. The zoo closes at five so we ll have a lot of time there. OK. I ll be ready. Number 5: Where is Alex going to wait for the Brown family? Shall we meet you outside your house Alex? I always take money when I go out. I might want to buy something. I ve got ten pounds in my cupboard. I ll take that. Number 7: What is Alex planning to buy in the zoo shop? Is there a shop at the zoo, Ben? Yes, it s got books, posters, and food and drink of course. That s good because I want a poster of a rhino. But tigers are your favourite animals Alex.
