Introduction The 7-Segment display may serve to visualize the position of parts within an automatic storage system. Controlling the dual digit display is done through use of the CAN-Bus. Depending on the command, the display can be continuous or blinking. Also various intensity levels for the display may be selected. Various Addresses and Baudrates are available and may be selected for operation within the CAN-Bus. 2. Connection On the back side of the controller, three connectors may be found. Two RJ45 connectors and one terminal block may be found here. 7-Segment Double Digit Indicator (CAN) The integration into a CAN-Bus system is made possible by using both RJ45 connectors. 3. Mechanic The dimensions of the 7-Segment display may be seen in figure 3. 24 82.5 72 Figure 3: Dimensions of the housing The dimensions necessary for mounting the 7- Segment display in a machine frame may be seen in figure 4. 22.2 + 0.3 68 + 0.7 min 1.5 Figure 4: Dimensions of the mounting slot 4. CAN-Bus Interface The pins of both RJ45 CAN-Interfaces are occupied according to the general CAN-Definition as follows: Table 2: RJ45 pin Connection 1 CAN High 2 CAN Low 3 CAN Ground 4-5 - 6 CAN Shield 7 CAN Ground 8 CAN +24 V The CAN-Bus interface does not have an integrated galvanic voltage supply for the CAN-Bus portion. This means that when connecting to a CAN-Bus system, next to CAN-High, and CAN- Low, the pins 3, 6, 7, and 8, must also be used. Through use of the Dip- at the house opening, the Address (4.1.1) and the Baud-Rate (4.1.2) may be set. Note: Before starting operation, it is very important to double check the Address setting of the controller. Each Address may only be used once per network! A 7-Segment display is CAN capable and with a few limitations may also be integrated into a CANopen system. Ver. 0.2/11.04.2006 Art. Nr. 104 057 E Seite 3
7-Segment Double Digit Indicator (CAN) 4.1.1. Addresses Through the use of 4 Dip-es, 16 different node addresses may be configured. 7-Segment Double Digit Indicator (CAN) Answer to command (command Nr. + 1) Byte 1+2 Answer Answer n+1 to command n : 3 03Hex Sends pseudo answer 5 05Hex Sends confirmation 7 07Hex Sends confirmation 9 09Hex Sends confirmation Data Byte 3-8 Data, which can be given with an answer (see chapter 6) Telegram length 8 Byte 6. CAN-Commands Basically all command numbers are even, and answers are odd. 6.1.1. Pseudo commands (2 [=02Hex]) The Pseudo-command serves merely to allow the 7-Segment display controller to respond to the PLC over the first emitter identifier. Command 2 [=02Hex] Answer 3 [=03Hex] Bit 6.1.2. Delete display (4 [=04Hex]) With this command, both of the 7-Segment display digits will be turned off. Command 4 [=04Hex] Answer 5 [=05Hex] Bit 6.1.3.
