Making IFFI a People s Film Festival The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that is annually held in Goa has a long history of celebrating the best of cinema from across the world and from every creative corner of India. This year IFFI 2017 being held from the 20 th of November to the 28 th of November marks a new beginning, thanks to the leadership and vision of the Hon ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting Smt Smriti Zubin Irani. This takes IFFI beyond the shores of Goa to every household in India making it a people s film festival. For the first time, Prasar Bharati will bring IFFI to every home with special primetime programming in the run up to the festival and during the festival. Doordarshan will celebrate the best of Indian cinema during the entire period with daily blockbusters telecast to audiences across India on its national channel. Doordarshan will also be showcasing a total of 25 hours of content between the 13 th and 28 th of November, which will consist of a live broadcast of the Opening ceremony, which is to be held at the prestigious Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Goa, with over 5,000 people in attendance at the stadium itself and of course millions who will see it in their living rooms. Keeping pace with Doordarshan is All India Radio with its special programming on IFFI, reaching out to an even wider audience across India through that good old companion the radio. The #IFFIOnAkashvani social media campaign is engaging audiences across India with "What does Indian Cinema mean to you?" Making the citizens of India an integral part of the IFFI journey and bringing the IFFI experience to every household is a major step taken by the Public Broadcaster, Prasar Bharati. This puts participation and showcasing at IFFI on a wider canvas with the entire nation as audience going beyond the critical appreciation of the elite few. The focus on creative entrepreneurship at IFFI marks a step towards developing the creative economy in India and realising the potential for India to emerge as the creative hub for the free world. India is uniquely positioned to chart the future course of the global creative economy given its demographic strength, democratic institutions and its rich legacy of culture and tradition rooted in creative expression over the centuries. As India s Public Service Broadcaster, Prasar Bharati will strive to be a catalyst for developing India s creative economy. This special focus on IFFI over the next two weeks is an important beginning in that direction. IFFI on AIR & Doordarshan - Details
