MAJOR SERVICES MAJOR SERVICES Reference ServiceA service that helps you to make full use of the resources in the library. It includes : Guidance in the use of information resources and services Instructions for accessing on line library resource including OPAC, e-journals, e-books, databases, multimedia products etc. Library orientation and information literacy programmes. For details, please contact : Asst. Librarian In-charge, Reference Section Photocopying Service The library provides free photocopying service to the faculty of the Institute. An external outfit operating within the premises of the library offers the service on payment to students, staff and other walk-in users. The library also supplies photocopies of articles to individuals and organizations on payment. A number of organizations maintain a deposit account with the library for availing the service quickly. Resource Sharing The library maintains excellent (Inter-library loan) relations with a number of institutions and libraries including IITs, BARC, NITIE, NCST, IISc, IIG, TIFR, IGIDR, TISS and NICT for exchange of books, journals, photocopies and videocassettes for the mutual benefit of the users. Members interested in borrowing books or obtaining photocopies of articles from other libraries may contact Circulation Counter for details. Information Alert Services New arrivals A weekly list of recent addition of books, pamphlets, reports, standards, annual reports and faculty publications added to the collection Lest-you-miss Innovativeservice to highlight important information appearing in journals, newspapers, newslet - ters and other sources. A late fee of Rs. 25.00 per day is charged for overdue books (Rs. 50/-during examination period). Book Bank Special Collection for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Students Text books from this collection are issued for a period of one semester to the students belonging to SC/ST. Eligible students may apply as per the schedule announced by the library. Technology Lending Library (TLL) The textbooks from the TLL section are loaned out for one semester to the students whose parents income falls below the taxable limit. Eligible students may apply as per the schedule announced by the library. Issue of Books for The library issues books for the Vacations entire duration of the vacation at the end of the each semester. Users Awareness Programmes The library takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the institute for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year. They are taken around the library to familiarize them with various resources and services available for them. Training sessions are also organized whenever a new product or service is introduced. Study Room BooksTextbooks recommended by the faculty for different courses are kept in the study room at the circulation counter for a specified period. These books can be used in thelibrary against Identity Card. DIGITAL LIBRARY DIGITAL LIBRARY Central Library is a part of the institute-wide network built around a fiber optic Giga-bit ethernet backbone comprising of five routing switches. The library is connected to the backbone through one of the routing switches. Institutes backbone in turn is connected to 32 mbps of Internet band width on leased links from VSNL and Reliance. The library has 12 servers, 70 PCs and other accessories adequate to cater to the needs of users. 25 PC are meant for users to access OPAC, databases, e-books, e-journals and other e-resources. The library has been Wi-Fi enabled to provide wireless access to the Internet. Users are welcome to use their laptops in the library. LIBRARY RULES LIBRARY RULES Visitors Only The Theses, The The The The Entry to the library is restricted to the bona fidemembers on production of valid Identity Card / Library Card / Visitor s Pass at the security check point. with valid passes are allowed only on weekdays from 0930 1730 hrs. Faculty, students and researchers from Government organizations are allowed to refer the library against introduction letters from their employers. books from general collection are issued to the library members. documents like reference books, bound volumes of journals, loose issue of current journals, reports and standards are issued only to the Faculty, Scientists and PG / Research Students for different loan periods. Interested users can obtain details from the Circulation Counter. dissertations, CDs, video cassettes are not lent out of the library. books which are already issued, can be claimed / reserved at the issue counter. One user can put upto 3 claims that will remain valid for 7 days from the date of return. users are not allowed to bring the books issued to them inside the library unless they intend to return them. borrowing facility can be withdrawn or restricted in case of misconduct by any user. readers should check the book thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, pictures etc., while borrowing the book.
