Commercial Case Study LAS VEGAS MUSEUM INCREASES FUNCTIONALITY WITH MULTI-PURPOSE INTEGRATION UPGRADE
WYRESTORM CASE STUDY Las Vegas Museum Increases Functionality with Multi-Purpose Integration Upgrade Commercial Installation Location: LAS Vegas, USA The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, is a world-class destination in downtown Las Vegas that presents an exciting and authentic view of the impact of organized crime on Las Vegas history and its unique imprint on America and the world. The 41,000-square-foot Mob Museum includes approximately 17,000 square feet of exhibition space on three floors in addition to a specialty retail store, special event areas, educational areas and office space. Completed in 1933 and listed on the Nevada and National Registers of Historic Places in what many consider the ultimate artifact - a former federal courthouse and United States Post Office in which many of the Kefauver Committee hearings on organized crime were held and where Museum visionary and former Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar B. Goodman, defended many mobsters as organized crime s go-to defense attorney. Meticulously rehabilitated to its original beauty, the building is significant not only for its neo-classical architecture reminiscent of the period in which it was built, but also for the historic events that unfolded inside of it. WYRESTORM CASE STUDY Throughout the museum, true stories of Mob history are brought to life in a bold and contemporary style via engaging exhibits and multi-sensory experiences that put the visitor in the middle of the action through immersive theatre presentations, iconic one-of-a-kind artifacts and interactive, themed environments. Historic Courtroom This original 1933 courtroom is the centrepiece of the museum and of great historic importance as a location for many hearings on organized crime in the 1950s. Although the space was initially designed and professionally installed to house this main exhibit, the client wanted to add increased functionality with a view to host additional events, presentations, discussions, meetings, conventions and exhibitions, both by the museum and independently. This multi-purpose space would need to offer an open and relaxed atmosphere conducive to open communication that would make the most of the size of the space and capitalize on the heritage of the building as a venue for debate as much as entertainment. As presentation was a key consideration, integration with the client s audio system comprising of dual Crown amplification to JBL and L Acoustic speakers was important, as was compatibility with multiple Shure wireless Microphone set-ups and earpieces for presenters distributed wireless by Shure antenna. It is with this in mind that the client asked for a flexible and reliable multifunctional audiovisual and IT distribution in two areas in particular on different floors, that were able to seamlessly incorporate the various devices and technologies required for the different uses of the room, yet would be easy to manage and control by museum staff. WYRESTORM CASE STUDY The client already had two Da-Lite 11ft X 14ft motorized projector screens on either side of the room serving two newly installed 7K lumen Christie projectors, with the existing Christie and Panasonic projectors repositioned and re-purposed to another centre screen. Oscar Goodman Room As with the Courtroom, this newly renovated space on the 3rd floor of the museum was custom designed for multifunctional applications, including a much needed high quality general meeting environment in the historic part of downtown Las Vegas, giving users with different business requirements easy device connectivity to suit their needs and as much control as possible with an easy to use interface. With such multifunctional connectivity multiplied across the 8 custom boardroom tables, each connecting to FSP floor boxes, the client needed a way to scale and/or passthrough inputs unconverted. The solution was connecting the floor box to an eleven input to two output WyreStorm SW-1102 multi-format switcher and scaler, which was then in turn connected as an input to the MX-0808-PRO 8x8 matrix. Display outputs also required flexibility, with an 132 motorized Vuetec projection screen connected to a Digital Projection 7500k Lumen projector and a Sharp 50 antiglare LCD display - all easily controlled by the end user via in-wall or mobile IPad2 control pad using RTI control software with the MX-0808-PRO offering full compatibility with RTI control protocols. However, the client needed a reliable video switching system capable of distributing HDMI content from various local and remote sources and chose a combination of a local WyreStorm MX-0404-STD HDMI matrix with each HDMI output connecting to one of the local projectors and two HDMI inputs for local device connection. The remaining two MX-0404-STD inputs connected to two WyreStorm RX-50IR-PRO dual UTP 50m display receivers, which served the MX-0808-PRO dual UTP matrix switcher installed in-rack with sources in an Oscar Goodman Boardroom two floors above the Courtroom. As a result of an imaginative approach to combined HDMI and UTP distribution together with multifunctional scaling, seamless switching and control of a variety of equipment is now possible, including Blu-ray players, Cable box, AppleTV, PCs, laptops, ipads, displays, projectors and a broadcast camera in both display zones separated by two floors. Full access to all these devices is now achievable independently in both zones; with sources and displays located in the Courtroom able to be viewed and controlled US OFFICE: TEL: +1 901 384 3575 FAX: +1 901 384 3574 EMEA OFFICE: TEL: + 44 (0) 1793 230 343 FAX: + 44 (0) 1793 230 583
WYRESTORM CASE STUDY both locally in the Courtroom and remotely in the Boardroom and vice versa with participants of meetings in the Boardroom also able to view live broadcasts from the Courtroom and control what content appears on the Courtroom projection screens from the privacy of the Boardroom. Both rooms have continued to host a variety of diverse and interesting events, with some streamed live, such as a monthly Metropolitan Police Department community outreach program, and have added significant revenue for the Museum, all of which would have been technically and logistically impossible before this integration update.
