Biographical/Historical Note Mrs. Albert P. Boyer was an African-American undertaker of New Orleans, Louisiana. Scope and Content Note Papers consist of promissory notes; statements of accounts to customers; bills for coffins, caskets, and other merchandise; and statements showing collections and disbursements for Boyer and Corbette and the New Ladies Providence B.M.A.A. Collection also contains bound manuscripts which include two cashbooks (1885-1899), with bank deposit and expense entries; a journal (1885-1888), reflecting accounts with clients for funeral expenses; and a ledger (1896-1899), containing both client and burial society accounts. Boyer; 1 statement, 1895, to St. Alphonse Society form Widow A.P. Boyer (billhead), undertaker; 21 bills (2 from Orleans Manufacturing Company coffins and caskets) and statement of account to customers f, 1899, also a statement showing collections and disbursements for Boyer and Cobette; 2 statements of account, 1901-1903, for collections and disbursements for Mr. Boyer and Mrs. Cobette; 1 statement, 1904, showing collections and disbursements for the New Ladies Providence B.M.A.A. addressed to officers and members; 1 bill, 1907, for merchandise to M. Cobette; and 7 miscellaneous items, undated Series II, Account Books; 1885-1899 4 bound manuscript volumes: 1. Volume contains daily entries for cash receipts and expenses. At the end of each month a balance is taken. Entries for July 1885 February 1889 are in French.
