Experiencing Sensing Describing Knowing Motivation + Will Patty Maher, photographer - Ontario

Enquiring into our Experiences: What is the nature of knowing? How can we plumb this richness? How can we make sense of the patterns in our lives? How can we generate meaning from them? Discovering Values: What is intrinsically worthwhile? Patty Maher, photographer - Ontario Awareness of Knowing: Our purpose is to explore the what, the how and the where of meaningfulness in our experiences: to make sense of life as we live it.

Enquiring into our Experiences: It s about bringing an ordinary experience into conscious awareness as a basis of enquiry. Discovering Values: Pre-verbal, pre-reflective touching the felt, yet not quite known. (creative process) Defining our values as reference points for desired ways of being. Patty Maher, photographer - Ontario Awareness of Knowing: Meaning Making through a new awareness of experience, a sense of living our values, and of understanding our patterns of being.

Motivation for change only happens when a desire to understand is present Often this is blunted through the need of self-retention and self-protection A will and desire to make sense of a life experience is essential for making meaning It s about strengthening the feeling emotion thinking valuing connection Patty Maher, photographer - Ontario

Healing the split that characterises modern existence. To heal is to make whole (from the disconnected parts of ourselves, society and the environment) The split is about standing outside observing, not experiencing fully, not participating wholeheartedly, not engaging, not flourishing To understand ourselves within the world means to restore our connection to ourselves, to the wider community and with the natural world Patty Maher, photographer - Ontario To heal, to experience and to connect is to establish meaning and mystery to our lives.

The freedom to choose our reference points for living based on the meanings held in our patterns of experience Knowing Consummating: Living our values Grounding: Validating our values Describing Intuitive Sensing Experiencing Adapted from John Heron + Peter Reason an Enquiry Paradigm

Knowing Grounding: Validating our values Detached awareness for reflection. All truth and meaning are relative to a context. Describing Ego awareness engages our critical consciousness by clarifying and refining what we think we know Intuitive Sensing Naïve Subjectivity unconscious awareness that s open to distortions and interpretation Consummating: Living our values Experiencing Our experience of the world and events ie through our senses: hearing, seeing, touching, tasting, smelling and our felt experience - emotions Adapted from John Heron + Peter Reason an Enquiry Paradigm

A general process ACCESSING areas of ourselves where ambiguity, uncertainty and confusion may be present TRANSFORMING any disconnected emotions and felt-meanings through an inner reexperiencing and raised awareness REPRESENTING a process where emerging elements are given form with an attempt to objectify them RE-CONSIDERING a distanced reflection takes place, often through interaction about emerging patterns RECONSTRUCTING MEANINGS further exploring the story or experience to consider more holistic meanings. https://www.flickr.com/photos/closetartist/9285339279/in/photostream/

Mindfulness: 1. So often when we re facing a problem, we begin with why 2. Critical brain kicks in to solve the problem yet it s a felt issue that needs to be observed and released 3. pure awareness versus brooding is like seeing clearly from the top of a mountain 4. Being rather than doing https://www.flickr.com/photos/closetartist/9285339279/in/photostream/ Creative Mindfulness Is about being in the moment Is about bringing awareness Is about observing what is Is about listening to our felt selves Is about re-experiencing Is about making meaning by choosing to live with our values and discover the experience of knowing
