Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card: Due Friday, September 2nd Suggestion from the teachers: Work on the assignments AS YOU READ THE BOOK. Set an alarm in your phone to remind yourself to get it done. Use the backwards planning map to help you plan our the work. Make notes/use sticky notes as you read to remember important parts of the book. Assignment #1: Keep a typed reader s log of each chapter of Ender s Game including chapter summaries, at least two important quotes and one character analysis per chapter. You will turn your final work into turnitin.com. See the example below for assistance in setting up your paper. Your paper WILL need to be set up like this. Insert a table with 3 rows and 2 columns to get started. Be sure to label each chapter clearly. Chapter Summary Chapter One Third Important Quotes (with citations) Character Analysis The monitor lady smiled very nicely (Card 1). This quote is important because This isn t really an important quote; it s just an example! Find your own! Table entries must be a minimum of one half typed page per chapter, double spaced using 12 point font in Times New Roman. Better responses will be longer and more developed than the minimum requirements. Summaries: Include all important action and details that add to the outcome of that chapter. You may also discuss character interactions and Ender s thoughts about things happening around him. Quotations: Choose at least two quotes that you feel shape the chapter. When citing quotes, use the authors last name and the page number that you found the quote on (Card 12). Add a small description below the quote that details why you feel it was important. Character Analysis: You may choose different characters per chapter or choose to study one character throughout the book. Specify who he/she is, what he/she does, and your opinion about his/her actions. Also, describe his/her character traits (appearance, personality, actions, etc.)
Assignment #2: Complete the chapter questions (attached). You MUST type up your responses. They will be turned into turnitin.com along with your first assignment. Be sure to fully answer each question. Your responses will be scored based on how accurately you have answered the question and also how in depth you have gone with your response. Responses must be double spaced using 12 point font in Times New Roman. Be sure to label each chapter clearly. Assignment #3: Complete the vocabulary development chart. You DO NOT need to type your responses. Follow the chart set up below. You can use lined paper and hand write it. If you choose to type it, you will need to print it out and turn it in to your teacher. Find at least three academic vocabulary terms in each chapter of Ender s Game. Identify the word, the definition, and the sentence it is written in in the novel. Then write your own sentence using the word correctly.
