E-R Design Justification: The E-R diagram for the Movie Review Database website begins with the entity class of user, that individual that will interact with the website such as reviewing movies. Under user, the composite attribute of name is implemented since it carries the composite values of first name and last name. User ID has been designated as the primary key for user since it is a unique value which can associate to that specific user. Email Address is an attribute used to store the user email address for correspondence use in the discussion board, reviews or elsewhere. The entity class user has a relationship type of writes with the entity class Discussion Board. The relationship type of writes is linked to the entity class Messages, which contains the attributes of Time Stamp and Data. The entity class Discussion Board designates the Discussion Board ID as the primary key to link the user directly with the discussion board and appropriate thread/review, avoiding errors that would be encountered if user ID were to be utilized. The user reviews a movie only once but a movie may have multiple reviews from various user s. In the entity class Movie, the Awards attribute is multi-valued since it will contain more than one value, stored as string data values. Movie ID is designated as the primary key as it is the unique number for each particular movie. The attribute overall user rating is a derived attribute of all the user ratings for the particular movie, trailer will link the user to a separate window/website with the respective content. The attribute show times will link to an external site which can bring up local show times for the movie in question. The entity class Movie has the relationship discussed with the Discussion Board entity class, to allow users to navigate to a movies respective discussion board thread. The entity class Actor designates the attribute Actor ID as the primary key to allow the database to differentiate from duplicate names of actors. The relationship type Appeared in has the attribute of Role to store the actors/actress role in the associative film. A one to many relationship exists between Movie and User, a movie may have multiple reviews but a review must have a movie. Between Movie and Discussion Board, a one to one relationship exists, one particular movie is associated with the discussion board, but the discussion board must have an associative movie discussed. Between Movie and Actor, a many to many relationship exists, many actors may be associated with many movies, but a movie must have actors that have appeared in it.
