Economic Background THE 4% GLOBAL GDP AVERAGE GROWTH IS DRIVEN BY China s average growth rate will decrease from the white-hot double digits of the past decade; USA will continue with a steady upward climb; India is expected to be the next emerging market superstar. The Euro region is expected to grow at 2 percent through 2018; the UK just above 2 percent. Falling OECD unemployment rates are a positive growth indicator in the developed world. Economic Background CONTAINERIZED SHIPPING AFFECTS BREAKBULK A compound annual growth rate of 5.7% in containerized cargo shipping is expected from 2013 through 2022; Container vessel capacity will be added faster than container cargo growth, leaving excess capacity to chase general and ro-ro cargo from traditional breakbulk cargo carriers. Serious competitive pressure, even though general cargo and ro-ro fleet capacity will shrink WORLD OIL MARKET US shale oil production will continue to increase; US will import less oil, continue to invest in LNG export and petrochemical facilities, and operate as a swing oil producer, while KSA will provide oil production stability; Continued unstable O&G market in other regions Low oil prices will also dampen the drive to find alternative and difficult-to-reach fuel sources.
