Overview Hydra is DVS high-end board for uncompressed audio and video I/O and real-time JPEG2000 decompression. Supporting the upcoming compression standard it is the next step into the near future of Digital Cinema and its growing demands. The board offers complete JPEG2000 Decompression, AES Encryption / Decryption, RSA Decryptions, Secure KeyStore, Watermarking, Audio and optional MPEG2 support. Hydra is a highly flexible board level solution for Digital Cinema Playback and it supports formats specified by DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative). Hydra is a single or multi-channel video card with up to 16 audio channels per video channel. Utilizing the multi-channel functionality Hydra can be adopted in multi-channel servers for independent I/O or for concurrent I/O in stereoscopic or multi-screen display solutions. Applications Digital Cinema servers (single stream or stereoscopic) Presentation servers Post production systems Broadcast servers Video The Hydra board supports two independent dual-link (4:4:4) outputs or 3 separate single (4:2:2) link outputs. This allows record and playback for either X Y Z, RGB or YUV color spaces up to 12 bit. All these SDI (Serial Digital Interface) outputs support link encryption. In addition the board provides flexible options for proprietary I/O links that allow direct interfaces to the projector. Hydra supports video and film rasters from SD to HD to 2K and up to 4K. Additionally a separate alpha channel is supported for subtitle overlay mixer. Decompression Hydra supports JPEG2000 decompression. Driver level support is provided for MXF, jp2, j2c streams. Complete support is given for code streams compliant with JPEG2000 (ISO/IEC 15444-1). With Hydra boards Digital Cinema servers supporting 2K (2048 x 1080 @24 fps) and 4k (4096 x 2160 @ 24 fps) can be easily constructed. JPEG2000 supports 9/7 wavelet filters, up to 6 wavelet decomposition levels, 12 bits per component and code block size: 32x32. MPEG2 compression / decompression is also available as an option. Hydra can seamlessly switch between JPEG2000 and Mpeg2 streams during playback. May 07 Copyright by DVS Digital Video Systems GmbH 3
Security The board has been designed taking utmost care for security. With board level tamper-proof key storage, intrusion detection and fault detection, the Hydra board provides a highly secure environment. 128 bit AES encryption and decryption in hardware is provided for content. The board also has RSA decryption in hardware. A tamper-resistant keystore is available on board to store the private key. Intrusion detection supports mechanical contact signals to generate a "key erase" in the case of intrusion. Temperature and voltage sensors on board provide additional levels of fault detection. All processing of security keys and decryption is carried out in a secure hardware environment. Link encryption is available on HD-SDI outputs to enable secure content transfer between servers and projectors. Watermarking Watermarking can be added by the hardware in real time during play-out. Hardware and SDK With more than 20 years in hardware development, DVS OEM boards are widely used in post, presentation and broadcast environments. The cards support 32 bit and 64 bit processor platforms and are available for both PCI-X (133 MHZ) and PCI-Express bus connectors. The boards are RoHS-compliant and are lead-free. DVS provides a high-level SDK (Software Development Kit) and driver support if provided for Windows and Linux platforms (32 / 64 bit). Additionally DirectShow drivers under Windows are available. Drivers also provide a high level support for many Digital Cinema requirements. The DVS OEM support group offers the highest quality support from developers for developers. Processing for Post Production What sets the board apart is the variety optional of processing features for post production solutions. Options include real-time down-converter, pan and scan, color space conversions, 1D Luts (Look up tables), 3D LUTS, real-time hardware mixer with split-screen operation etc. Please see feature list for details. Integration Hydra has been designed to meet a variety of different input and output needs. Optionally the board can be easily extended to support proprietary interfaces. This is ideal when the media block needs to be integrated within the projector. The design also allows the board to be future proof with the ability to extend support to newer interfaces with simple add-on cards. The board is highly customizable for different requirements. Four separate RS-422 and GPI connectors on board provide an easy way to integrate the players with show control and screen management systems. Audio 16 channels of uncompressed AES/EBU audio or 16 channels embedded audio per video channel are available with support for 44.1 khz, 48 khz and 96 KHz. The board also has two stereo audio D/A converters for monitoring. May 07 Copyright by DVS Digital Video Systems GmbH 6

DVS Abstract For more than 20 years DVS with its headquarters in Hanover, Germany, has been a leading manufacturer of high-performance digital video products for film, TV, post production and R&D. DVS offers a wide range of premium software and high-end video turnkey workstations from disk recorders and storage systems to conforming and finishing systems for Digital Intermediates. DVS software and hardware are recognized as a reference for quality, reliability and performance. DVS presented another milestone in its software development: the innovative data manager Spycer was announced Pick of Show award from IBC 2006. In the same year a new line of disk recorders came to market: Pronto2K.2 and ProntoHD.2 enable real-time multi-resolution capture and play-out combined with full conforming. Besides its turnkey solutions, DVS also focuses on its successful OEM-business. The successor of the popular Centaurus board, Centaurus II, is available since late 2006. The special highlight of Centaurus II: along with CLIPSTER it easily manages 4K. With this the German company strengthens its role as a leading-edge pioneer in the 4K field. Post production houses both large and small worldwide and the broadcast industry, too, have DVS products in daily operation. R&D departments also use DVS systems for their development work of multimedia applications. Moreover, DVS has teamed up with ARRI, Kodak, FujiTV, Imagica and The Mill. The company has a large OEM customer base as well: numerous leaders in the industry integrate DVS powerful video I/O boards into their own products, thus enhancing their performance. With more than 20 years of experience and high-quality products DVS hardware and software solutions are strongly sought after amongst industry leaders.
