ARE YOU UNDER SURVEILLANCE? This movie contains scenes of violence and gore

Memory is fragile. It disappears or subtly changes as time goes by. Perhaps, therefore, we preserve it on the image. Trying to perpetuate what happened and what we were. My memories of that night are on the video I recorded. Thinking that it nearly lost, I note how the image is too fragile. I can only say one thing to you: Without that video this movie would not exist. Well, I remember we were leaving the Vila Madalena neighbourhood in the way to the Neu Club, right? On the way the GPS told us to go through that avenue that passes under the overpass of Sumaré. And in this path I saw a body on the road. And you said, "No, where, where? You did not saw, right? So I said: "damn, a car ran over him. And you said, No! I'm not seeing anything. So I said: I may be mistaken. It might have been a doll. I remember saying something like: "might have been a doll. I guess the car ran over his arms. I remember seeing it in the rearview mirror. So, we were there. Everything was quiet so said: there s a guy in the middle of the road, there is a guy, there is a guy. Only if it is a doll, really, there's a guy, there's a guy. So I said, "No, get back, I'm a doctor, I'm a doctor. Get back! I have to check if he's alive or not. Then said, calm down, calm down. I remember you said: Let s go, let s go. Return. was very impressed because he thought it was a doll and he saw the cars passing over him. I guess the guy had just fallen, and so, the cars were not stopping, no one had seen the guy was there on the road. Then I parked. And we went there, right? There were two people there, right? two people were already there trying to stop the cars. At the same time I called a colleague who worked with me, a nurse. It was late at night, right? He was sleeping, but I called and he answered. So I said: "Hey, I'm here in the middle of the road and there is a dead guy here. I need to know what to do? He said, "Nothing, wait for firefighter or police get. You don't have anything to do. Just stay there, waiting and passes the case.. Then the firemen came and I talked to a few of them. I said, "look the guy's there, okay. He is dead, pulseless and that's it After I got rid of that, I remember two boys who were very worried. Oh! I do not remember if it was a cop or fireman, but I talked to one of them. I think was a fireman, he told me it was too frequently this happens, and that recently a man had jumped with a dog. When I said "look"... when I looked at the rearview mirror, "a car ran over. I remember a woman telling me "oh, I did not see, I was distracted, I think I even passed over it. Our I was very nervous. I thought he was still alive. And I remember see some people who were a little euphoric. But then, I remember, as well, of us, right? Because, finally, we were together and I remember you and I. We get a strange feeling. But was very laid back. "No, let s go, let s go!. In the end we went, right? We get back in the car and went to party. But the party was weird, was not very... well, I believe that the situation unconsciously affect everyone of us. I was not thinking the whole time about what had happened, but I just could not enjoy the party. I was more introspective. That's what I remember. We found the body on November 9, 2013. The time is unclear, but it was close to midnight. He was here, lying on the road with face up. He was wearing plaid shirt and jeans. Hours before the event

on the International Space Station, a cosmonaut walked with the Olympic torch unlit. Germany were celebrating 24 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. In the Philippines, a typhoon devastated several cities. His death was not reported on television or in the papers, did not become a post or photo on the internet. The only record of the death of this young man, is the video I made. What I do with it? And what we will do with these others? An image is a selection of space, character, time and of course an intention. But every image has an intention? These are some of the few photos of the Paraguayan war. Photos of a war that do not reveal the war. On the other hand, the royal family stimulated the production of pictures to document slavery. Again, photos that do not reveal the slavery. This photo shows a different intention: Lampião and his gang were killed, beheaded and had their heads exhibited in some cities of the interior. It was this picture, printed in the newspapers showed the power of the state. Every image is made to someone. An acquaintance, a stranger or to yourself in the future. Past photos had defined their intentions. The video did not. It is the only record that remained of the death of this young man for those who were not there. Someone told me about a video of a man who been eaten by lions. At the moment it was me and two other doctors and the internet was working and we watch this video on Youtube. I got interest so I searched for it. Well, the video is about a family doing a Safari and they are outside of the car. I don't remember right but a man left the car and he attacked by the lions and his family is inside the car and they see this men be eat by the lions. And that guy is alive! And I was impressed with this man being eaten by lions. He is nothing there. At the same time the family inside the car, they are seen everything and they are noting. He is just a piece of meat there, right? So, human being, whatever. A piece of meat being eaten. This video made me thoughtful about the impotence of who was inside the car. I remember that there were children in the car, and one of the adults tried to leave of the car, but he would not dare to go save because it would be eaten too. So it's a violent video but I found really interesting and the video is very well done. I think it was a professional camera that was used in that video, because the image is good. It is from 1978, I believe it was recorded with a super 8 camera. That is a family common film at that time. But it's a camera to shoot movies? The intention was... they were making a documentary or something like that? No. I don t know. But it's not... it's a good picture, it is a good video. If you speak oh! It s part of a movie", You can say that It s part of a movie. In the middle of a violent act we used or close your eyes not to see, or freeze the look not to miss a second. Today no one need to look, just record.

The cameraman who record these scenes said he made it carefully and calm. When he arrived home later and reviewed it on TV he got thrilled. As if the camera were a wall, not to let him see what really was happening to him. Every image is made for someone. An acquaintance, a stranger or ourselves in the future. Past photos had defined their intentions. The video I recorded did not. It is the only record that remained of the death of this young man for those who were not there. Well, now, I'm going to ask you to review the video. Thousands of years later. For now, that's all. Review please. Just see? Without listening? No. listening of course. Can I Play it? Did you have any memory of what exactly was present in this video? You remember what we talked about in the car? I did not remember what we were making fun with. I did not remember what was the joke that we were doing. And I do not remember your reaction, neither when I got scared, right? Fells like being back there. It was really weird. What is your impression after reviewing? Impression. About what? For example, you had mentioned that you do not remember, right? The moment that sees the body. Nevertheless, you said reminiscent, but not the previous moments of the event. It is a bit strange. I couldn't even identify what song I was singing. Can you? It seemed I was very confident of myself. It's funny at least, but it's weird you see this video

I found funny the part I say "wait, wait" then I remove the seatbelt. I think I wanted to jump the car. And you said "no, wait, put the seatbelt, put the seatbelt. Funny. but Yeah. But it's weird you realize that everything was so relaxed and than this event happens, so Ah. The moment said, "the car just run over the guy" And then you said ", you're crazy." You imagined the possibility of was raving about this guy in the middle of the avenue. I did not remember it. Interesting! Your first reaction was doubt about, right? And I guess I was hoping it was true. "Is it fucking adrenaline, let's go!. What Can I do? Do what? I do not know, dude. I think it's to say that you saw or for information. I think it's more to say that you saw the video than anything else. There are people who see and have no reflection. No impact. Today these videos that spread so easily that brutal and grotesque videos that in the past would have greater impact, today they are commonplace. They no longer have the impact to tell us: Look how our reality is brutal. The video I made was nearly lost. The computer HD has been erased. The smartphone that recorded it no longer exists. Not every image has an intention, but every image tells us something. Maybe we're just deaf and blind. What do these images tell us?
