The Houston Symphony League Bay Area presents Grandmas Boyfriends Barbershop Quartet and The King s Men Barbershop Chorus Wednesday, September 14, 2016 10:00 am social 10:30 am meeting Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 18220 Upper Bay Road Nassau Bay, TX 77058

If you enjoy the tight harmonies of barbershop singing, you are sure to be entertained by these two Houston barbershop groups. Come to our September 14 General Meeting ready to tap your toes to many of the old time barbershop favorites. And there is sure to be a surprise or two in the mix as well. From the President Welcome back! I hope you are as excited about the upcoming season for the Houston Symphony League Bay Area (HSLBA) as I am. And as music lovers, I m sure you are ready to experience the great musical journey we will have with this year s Houston Symphony concerts. There s going to be a huge variety of classical, pops and symphony specials to savor. As members of HSLBA, we also have the opportunity to hear many fine musicians at our monthly meetings. Our Vice President of Programs, Carol Wilson, has put together an amazing schedule of programs this year. I know you will want to invite your neighbors and friends to join you at HSLBA meetings and events. It s the best deal in town!! Check out the Upcoming Schedule section below for details.

I was thinking about what I might share with you in this first newsletter, so I opened the bylaws to take a look at our purpose. The purpose of this organization is to promote quality music education and enrichment for area students and to promote music appreciation through an affiliation with the Houston Symphony and other resources. I am very proud to be a part of an organization that does just that. Each year we offer special musical programs to all 26 elementary schools in the Clear Creek Independent School District. They have the opportunity to hear about percussion from Brian Del Signore, the principal percussionist of the Houston Symphony. They learn and listen to the Take Five Woodwind Quintet and also explore the sounds of brass through the Paragon Brass Quintet. All fifth graders have the opportunity to take a special trip to Jones Hall to experience the entire Houston Symphony. The HSLBA provides the financial support to make that happen every year. How do we do this? We have a great team of members who organize and implement our major fund raiser, A Day By the Bay Home Tour. This event will take place April 1 and 2, 2017. This year s team is led by Martha McWilliams and we all will have a part to play to make this successful. Together we will raise the money we need to continue to accomplish our purpose. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with each of you. I hope you will catch the excitement as we share our love for music together. Mary Voigt HSLBA President UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENT SAVE THE DATE NOW MUSIC AT THE MUSEUM October 25, 2016, 6:30 pm Bay Area Museum in Clear Lake City Park 5000 NASA Rd 1, Seabrook, TX This beautiful event, co-sponsored by the HSLBA and the Bay Area Museum Guild, will offer wine, hor d oeurves and desserts with the music of Megan Conley, Principal Harpist, Houston Symphony Matthew Roitstein, Associate Principal Flutist, Houston Symphony Tickets are $30
