L ACADEMIE LYRIQUE AND THE TIMISOARA STATE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA PRESENT: INTERNATIONAL SYMPHONIC MASTERCLASS FOR CONDUCTORS WITH Mº ALEXANDRE MYRAT FEBRUARY 2 ND TO 7 TH 2018 Vendôme, France THE MASTERCLASS The Académie Lyrique organizes an orchestra conducting masterclass with Maestro Alexandre Myrat that will take place from Friday February 2 nd until Wednesday February 7 th 2018 in Vendôme, France. The masterclass includes: A minimum of 90 minutes individual conducting time with orchestra A minimum of 45 minutes individual conducting time with piano Dress rehearsal and concert on February 7 th Sessions with piano will be held on February 2 nd and 3 rd ; sessions with orchestra will be held from February 4 th to 7 th. The masterclass will conclude with a dress rehearsal and a final public concert on February 7 th 2018, conducted by all the active participants. The teaching staff will define the division of works and the form of intervention of each participant during the concert. A Certificate of participation will be provided to every participant who has completed the masterclass. PROGRAM Ludwig van Beethoven : Coriolan Overture op. 62 Vincenzo Bellini : Oboe Concerto Johann-Nepomuk Hummel : Introduction, theme and variations op.102 for Oboe and Orchestra Ludwig van Beethoven : Symphony No. 1 Antonin Dvorak : Czech Suite (selected movements) Bela Bartok : Romanian folk danses Participants are required to select and prepare 2-3 music works out of this repertoire. Conductors are expected to purchase and study their scores before the start of the masterclass. 1
TEACHING STAFF AMAURY DU CLOSEL Vienna based conductor/composer Amaury du Closel studied composition with Max Deutsch and conducting with Alexandre Myrat. Amaury du Closel collaborated in his early years with numerous orchestras in London, Warsaw (Polish Radio and Television of Warsaw), Festival de Menton (Sinfonia Varsovia), Suwon (Korea), La Kamerata (Greece), Qatar. He is currently guest conductor of several orchestras in Italy, Germany, Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, and recently appeared with the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the North Czech Philharmony the Enescu Philharmony in Bucharest, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV, I Solisti Aquilani and The Pusan Symphony Orchestra in Korea. His repertoire extends from the Classical period to composers of the Twenty- First century. He is currently Musical Director of Opéra Nomade, a nationwide opera touring company, and is also Artistic Director of the Silenced Voices Festival in Strasbourg. Mr du Closel published in 2005 a book about European composers victims of the Nazi regime that was awarded the Prize of the Critics for the best musical essay the very same year. Since 2003, he has revived numerous works of these composers in the concert series Forum Voix Etouffées throughout Europe with the support of the European Union. His regularly records with the Nürnberger Symphoniker for Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft and Sony, and collaborates also with Naxos (Malipiero) and the English label KMI. He recently released with the latter a CD dedicated to the Figure Of The Tyran, the opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Viktor Ullmann and the Ode To Napoleon Buonaparte by Arnold Schoenberg. Among his last collaborations figures concerts with the Berliner Symphoniker at the Festival of La Chaise- Dieu in August 2016. ALEXANDRE MYRAT A French citizen born in Greece, Alexandre Myrat discovered music at the age of 13 and, seven years later, he conducted his first concert with the Orchestra of Monte Carlo. In Paris, he studied conducting under Igor Markevitch, Max Deutsch and Nadia Boulanger. Since 1976, when he conducted the world première of Milhaud s Oresteia for Radio France, he began a steady collaboration with the French broadcaster, conducting numerous recordings, concerts and many world premières. He has also conducted concerts for the BBC, Österreichischer Rundfunk, Bulgarian Radio and the RTBF (Radio Télévision Belge Francophone). His international career has led him all over the world. Following the establishment of the Picardie Orchestra in 1984, where he was artistic director until 1989, he became known for his interpretation of the works of Mozart. In 1991 he founded La Kamerata, the Athens Megaron in-house orchestra, with whom he has recorded for labels such as EMI, ECM, RCA, Blue Note and Agorà. Three of his recordings have won Recordings Academy awards. He is permanent guest conductor of the Târgu Mureș Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2013, he was made a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres by the French government. In 2011, he was appointed artistic director of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra. 2
TUITION FEES Tuition fees for active participant: 1 600* Tuition fees for auditors: 350* Accommodation in single room (half board): 210 for the whole week. A 300 down payment (for the active participants) and 150 (for the auditors) has to be paid via bank transfer two weeks at the latest after the organizers confirmation of your participation. The rest of the fee has to be paid via bank transfer at the latest on January 15 th 2018. The tuition fees for active participant include: 90 minutes podium time with the Timisoara State Philharmonic orchestra; 45 minutes podium time with piano; Personalized coaching during the masterclasse; Participation to all meetings, classes, rehearsals, dress rehearsal and final concert The tuition fees for auditors include: Assistance to all meetings, classes, rehearsals, and to the dress rehearsal and the final concert on February 7 th Whatever their level in conducting and age, French citizens applying for active participation or as an auditor may finance their tuitions fees in one of the following two ways: Either by making a request to the AFDAS (for the intermittents); Either with a DIF (for the employees); Either by making a request to Pôle Emploi (for people registered as job seeker) Or by a charity payment to the Académie Lyrique in the framework of the tax exemptions pertaining to the revenue tax or the ISF (Impôt de solidarité sur la fortune) which the Académie Lyrique as a charity is allowed to perceive by the French Tax Administration. 3
