FOREWORD BY DR. WILLIAM DYSON I have to declare an interest at once. Master Simon Wong is my Tai Chi and Chi Kung teacher, and I write as his student and admirer. He is a man of great knowledge and ancient lineage who has made a lifelong study of the Chinese martial and cultural arts. His time is now dedicated to practising and teaching those arts and to fostering works of charity and goodwill. Chinese culture has always understood that the universe is permeated by a vital force or energy. Everyone knows the Chinese word chi, sometimes translated as cosmic breath or vital principle ; but it does not matter what name is given to this energy. The important thing is that we cannot live healthily - we cannot live with joy and contentment - unless we live in harmony with it. Not living in harmony with it is like swimming against the current of a river, or walking into a high wind. The Chinese people became aware of this force long before the occidental world did. By a process of trial and error extending over many centuries, they developed practices through which human beings might understand and use chi in its various manifestations. 5

In the West, the best known of these practices are the martial arts, and especially the internal arts of Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua Chang and Hsing Yi Chuan. More and more people have experienced the benefits of acupuncture and related therapies. More recently, the West has become aware of the art of Feng Shui, to which this book is a guide. Feng Shui - literally "wind-water" - is sometimes called the art of placement. It is the art of managing or arranging our environment in such a way as to create a fruitful relationship between ourselves and the chi which flows through all parts of it. Master Wong is a highly accomplished practitioner of Feng Shui and has helped many people over the past ten years or more. But the Chinese people understand that to every positive there is a negative: every force has its 'dark side.' Master Wong knows that Feng Shui can be harmful, or can fail to be beneficial, if misused or used by people whose understanding of it is inadequate. It is for this reason that he has decided to make his knowledge available in writing. The result is a volume full of knowledge and wisdom. May this book prosper, and may Master Wong's work long continue. 6

Dr. R. W. Dyson (Professional academic, author and an experienced martial artist) British national; having graduated from Durham University; a practising Buddhist; born on 17th September 1949; has been teaching Tai Chi in Durham for six years, practiced Tai chi for fifteen years; also practices kenpo karate (third degree black belt), but does not teach it. 7

INTRODUCTION TO MASTER SIMON WONG 8

INTRODUCTION TO MASTER SIMON WONG Master Simon Wong has been a Landscape/8 Mansions/Flying Star Feng Shui Master for over 15 years, during which time he has enhanced the Feng Shui for many clients. These include stockbroking establishments, banks and other financial institutions in London and a vast number of shops, restaurants, offices and private homes in this and many countries worldwide. Master Wong s expert advice is highly regarded as a means to maximise the potential of any building - as testified by the many successful businesses who have consulted him and the improved relationships, health and finances of those whose homes he has helped to improve. As founder of Yellow Dragon International, Master Wong is dedicated to offering true Feng Shui and not the dubious Feng Shui that has become prolific in recent years. Feng Shui is an ancient art that takes years of dedicated study and practice and is finely interwoven with Eastern spiritual traditions which focus on the nature of energy. 9

He can even enhance the effects of the Feng Shui by empowering a Taoist talisman to destroy any negative influences. He can also contact and remove spirits that may be residing in the house and causing problems. These skills are very rare and this is what separates Master Wong and Yellow Dragon International from other services. In addition to his Feng Shui skills Master Simon Wong is the founder of Yellow Dragon Fist Kung Fu; a 7th Generation Master of Bamboo Forest Temple Mantis Kung Fu, and a 7th Grade Black Sash with the A.M.A. He is the U.K. representative of 100 Day Chi-Gung, and the founder of the Rainbow Chi-Gung Institute. He has mastered both the Small & Large Circle styles of Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan and has studied Wing Chun, Pak Mei & Hung Gar. Master Simon Wong has been studying martial arts and Chi-Gung for more than 25 years, and has been teaching this knowledge for over 15 years. Master Wong has recently featured on Channel One & CNE satellite TV stations regarding Feng Shui, as well as Newsworld and The Chinese Channel satellite television (TVBI) regarding his spiritual consultations. He has appeared live on G.L.R., Capital Radio & News Talk to 10

discuss Chinese astrology and fortune telling and was interviewed in 1996 by a Chinese radio station when he accurately predicted Labour's success in the 1997 General Election. His predictions have also been published in the Londoner s Diary in The Evening Standard. In addition he has acted as a professional advisor for a BBC documentary on Feng Shui, and was consulted by The Sun regarding John Major & Tony Blair's Feng Shui. On a Scottish theme, he was interviewed by the Sunday Mail for an article about Scottish celebrities using Feng Shui, and gave a lecture on the use of Feng Shui to the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Sunday Express also published an article about an interview Master Wong gave regarding Feng Shui. In 1998 Master Wong appeared on BBC Radio 4 & Channel 4 television, and gave lectures to High Wycombe Council. In 1999 he is acted as a spiritual spin doctor to certain Labour MPs and became the Feng Shui columnist for HomeStyle magazine. Last year (2000) he was favourably reviewed on BBC television s Watchdog consumer programme. 11

INTRODUCTION TO HIS HOLINESS LIVING BUDDHA SHENG-YEN LU 12

Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu 13

INTRODUCTION TO LIVING BUDDHA SHENG-YEN LU His Holiness Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu is one of Master Simon Wong s most important Feng Shui Masters. Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu used Landscape Feng Shui to find the most auspicious place to locate his temple. The place he chose was Seattle, USA, next to the most successful business organisation in the world - the Microsoft Corporation owned by Bill Gates - the world s richest man! The Microsoft headquarters are situated on a certain feature of the landscape known as the Dragon s stomach. This is one of the reasons for the company s success. The Living Buddha s temple is situated on the Dragon s head. Grand Master Lu is successful in the spiritual way, whilst Bill Gates is successful in the material way. This is why his True Buddha School has become so important around the world. Grandmaster Sheng-Yen Lu was born in 1945 in Taiwan. Originally a Christian, he was twenty six years old when a profound mystical experience led him to study Taoism, Sutrayana and Tantric Buddhism. After intense training 14

and practice over a period of fourteen years, he became a Master of exceptional accomplishment in these disciplines and achieved perfect enlightenment. In 1982 he settled in the United States to promote Buddhist teachings in the West. He has since built a major Buddhist temple, the Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple, in Redmond, Washington and a large retreat centre in the Cascade Mountains. Grandmaster Sheng-Yen Lu is now a prominent religious figure throughout south-east Asia. As of 1999, over 4 million people had taken refuge in his True Buddha School, including many well known and highly respected Tibetan Tulkas and Rinpoches. With over 300 chapters & 30 temples worldwide, the True Buddha School is recognised as a major component in Buddhism today. Grandmaster Lu is revered as a Living Buddha by his students. By practising the True Buddha Tantric Dharma, as taught by the Living Buddha, one can realise awakening and liberation in this present life. He is also a prolific writer, having published over 130 books in Chinese on such varied topics as Tantric Buddhism, Feng Shui, Zen Buddhism and Taoism. On the subject of Feng Shui, he has written 5 books. These explain the secrets of ancient Chinese texts and 15

incorporate a spiritual aspect involving the use of Taoist talismans to aid the Feng Shui. Many of these books are now being translated into English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Japanese.... If you wish to take refuge with Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu you can contact him at this address: LING SHEN CHING TZE TEMPLE 17012 NE 40TH CT. REDMOND WA 98052, U.S.A. Feng Shui Introduction Course 17

1.) WHAT IS FENG SHUI? Feng Shui (similar to geomancy in the West) is a way of controlling the magnetic flow in the environment to increase your energy, fortune and well being. Feng Shui is very similar to the practice to acupuncture. Acupuncture is based on manipulating meridians which are passages in which chi (energy) travels. When a blockage is caused through ill-health the chi can no longer flow freely. It is the blockage that is manipulated through the use of needles to create free flowing energy. Feng Shui is the same in that the house is manipulated to create free flowing energy avoiding obstacles that result in an unhealthy environment. 18

2.)WHY IS FENG SHUI CALLED WIND AND WATER? Many people know Feng Shui is called wind and water but when you ask them why this is so, they can not give you a good answereven the so called consultants. Now we will explain why Feng Shui is called wind and water. In Ancient Chinese, Feng Shui means Wind and Water. The reason why it is called Wind and Water is because energy (chi) is created by Water when it evaporates. The scientific explanation of this is that as a substance, in this case Water, changes from liquid to vapour, it goes through a chemical reaction at a molecular level 19

generating and releasing energy. This energy is Chi. The Ancient Chinese knew this centuries before it was discovered by modern science. The way Chi is destroyed by Wind is more straightforward. The Wind simply blows the Chi away, moving from one place to another. If an area is affected by strong winds, then it will have very bad Feng Shui because the Chi will be unable to settle. Therefore, the area will not benefit from any Chi available. If we know how to manipulate the interaction of airflow (Wind) and Water (Water vapour) we will know how to make our lives more balanced. This is not a New Age spiritual fashion accessory but an extremely advanced method of 20

21

enhancing the individual s well being for peace of mind. However, this can only be achieved if it is practiced properly. Just as Feng Shui can significantly benefit those who use it properly, if it is used in accord with one s own beliefs or learned and practiced inaccurately the effect can be damaging. Feng Shui is used to balance negative energy and attract positive energy however, it is important that the practitioner is clear on how this is done. An example of the natural effects bad feng shui can have, can be seen in the desert. This vast unfertile land with drastic temperature changes and intense winds show the damaging effects of an area with bad feng shui. 22

On the other hand, an example of the natural effects of good feng shui would be an equatorial forest. This land flourishes with millions of wildlife species, an abundance of plant life, fertile land and natural resources. 3.) THE FIVE ELEMENTS (ENERGIES) PRODUCTIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE CYCLES The Ancient Chinese people understood that the whole universe is based on the Five Elements of Fire, Water, Earth, Wind and Emptiness which are influenced by the five Energies (Metal, Wood, Water, Fire & Earth). Metal represent solidifying energy; 23

Wood represents growing energy; Water represents flowing energy; Fire represents active energy Earth represents spreading energy. These Energies interact to both create and destroy each other. In Feng Shui we have to determine by which of the five Energies you are most influenced. At your moment of birth one of these Energies will be most prominent and you will absorb this energy. From that moment on you will be influenced by that particular type of energy throughout your life. Each Energy is capable of creating or destroying the other. The diagrams on the following pages show these cycles. 24

However I will explain here how they work. The Productive Cycle: Fire produces carbon, which is the basis of Earth. Earth generates and yields Metal. When metal is heated it melts and therefore creates liquid or Water. Water promotes plant growth and thereby creates Wood. Wood burns to produce fire. The Destructive Cycle: Wood in the form of plants depletes the soil of nutrients thereby destroying Earth. Earth absorbs Water. Water extinguishes Fire. Fire melts Metal. Metal destroys Wood by cutting it. 25

4.) SHAPE AND COLOUR CAN BE USED TO REPRESENT THE FIVE ENERGIES Fire: A triangle shape is used to represent fire. The colour of fire is red. Earth: A square shape is used to represent earth. The colour of earth is yellow. Metal: A Round shape is used to represent metal. The colour of metal is white. Water: An S shape is used to represent water. The colour of water is black or blue. 26

Wood: A rectangle is used to represent wood. The colour of wood is green. So, if you know how to use Feng Shui you and others can benefit from it. Or if you use it in a selfish way, you can benefit yourself while destroying your opponents. A very famous example is the Bank of China in Hong Kong. They used triangle shapes and reflective glass to help themselves in weakening all the surrounding businesses. 27

The Productive Cycle of the 5 Elements EARTH FIRE METAL WOOD WATER Here is a chart showing the Productive Cycle of the 5 elements: Water creates Wood; Wood creates Fire; Fire creates Earth; Earth creates Metal and Metal creates Water 28

The Destructive Cycle of the 5 Elements EARTH FIRE METAL WOOD WATER This chart shows the Destructive Cycle of the 5 elements: Water destroys Fire; Fire destroys metal; Metal destroys Wood; Wood destroys Earth and Earth destroys Water. 29

BANK OF CHINA 30

5) BANK OF CHINA The aggressive design is the the Bank of China is targeted against the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank and Standard Charter which represented British trade in Hong Kong. The design incorporates mirrors to flash light at the nearest buildings, interfering with the occupants health, business potential and power. The top of the Bank of China is designed like a triangle, which represents their ruthlessness in business through greater financial resource from the Chinese government. Visually, from a long distance, it looks like a giant dagger cutting into the heart of Hong Kong and that is exactly what it is. 31

The Bank of China is built on the right hand side of the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank and Standard Charter, (the right being the White Tiger side). This negatively affects the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank and Standard Charter by isolating them in business and making it less likely for people to help them. Although they designed part of the roof top structure to look like two cannons to fight back, this still makes very little difference. An analogy would be like a person trying to defend themselves with two small chopsticks against a giant dagger. The most important point about the triangle of the Bank of China is that it is facing the Hong Kong Governor s building, which represented the political, financial 32

and economic power of Hong Kong. By doing this, the Bank of China aimed to destroy the centre of Hong Kong s power. However, in an attempt to defend himself, the Governor employed the services of a Feng Shui Master and grew trees between his residence and the Bank of China. Therefore, the Triangle of the bank of China represents fire and the trees represent wood. This means that growing the trees will actually increase the power of the triangle in the same way that wood kindles a fire. At a basic level of Feng Shui this makes sense as it provides a physical barrier against the power directed against them. 33

Unfortunately, that Feng Shui Master forgot that different symbols represent different elements. For example, a rectangle represents wood, a square represents Earth and a triangle represents fire... Anyone who has learned Feng Shui should know the 5 Elements (5 Energies). Earth creates metal; metal creates water; water creates wood; wood creates fire and fire creates earth. You can say that the fall of the British Government in Hong Kong was down to Fate and that the power of Hong Kong would go to China and there was nothing that the British Government could do. You can now see that the British Government in Hong Kong believed in Feng Shui which is why 34

they employed the services of a Feng Shui master. Unfortunately, they could not find a good Feng Shui master. In February 1997 for a CNE Feng Shui programme, I used Chinese astrology and Feng Shui to predict a smooth Hong Kong handover. This has come true and this was a very peaceful handover. Hence the reason why Government House is now a museum! The new Hong Kong Governor believes in Feng Shui as well which is probably why he has chosen not to live there! 35

6) FENG SHUI TIPS We thought it might be useful to include Feng Shui tips some of which have been misinterpreted. For example, why should the toilet seat by kept down at all times? Many of people and books say the answer is because your money will be flushed away. That is a joke! Whether your seat is down or not makes no difference, you still have to flush the toilet. The answer is simply for hygiene reasons. It is unsanitary for the toilet seat to be left up, that is all. Feng Shui is based on mathematics and very scientific. It is in no way a new age spiritual trend. Sometimes, Feng Shui can be combined with psychology to 36

make the people feel peaceful in their minds. A/ MIRRORS You may have been told that it is bad Feng Shui to sleep with a mirror facing you. Some say this is because if you wake up you will scare your own spirit and others say it is because the mirror reflects negative energy. The truth is that mirrors reflect movement just as if you were to shine a torch across a mirror. This reflection of moving light is energy. Our bodies are most vulnerable when we sleep and this light energy will in the long-term cause damage to our bodies. This is comparable to a small drop of water hitting a rock. Of course no damage is evident in the beginning 37

but after a year or so one can notice a hole in the rock. The same is true of any reflective movement in a mirror while you sleep. B / LOSING CHI THROUGH WINDOWS: One should be careful of doors that lead straight to windows. The chi that enters through the doorway of a room would then pass straight outside through the window. This would intern diminish the Chi and your money. You can avoid this by using a blind or curtain that is constantly kept closed to retain the Chi. The blind should not be too transparent or thin as this would only keep in a portion of the otherwise lost Chi. 38

C / STAIRCASES: It is also important to avoid placing a staircase opposite the front door. This is because the Chi entering will not be stable and therefore cause problems within the house. The occupants of the house will suffer from a serious illness such as cancer, or they might have an operation and possibly pass away. If you already live in a house with a staircase positioned opposite the front door, you can avoid any problems by either moving the front door, using another entrance into the house, or placing a screen or blind between the staircase and the front door. 39

D / SHARP EDGES: One should also avoid sharp edges facing a window, door or even the building you live in. This is known as sha chi and directs negative energy towards the house. Just as a magnifying glass can direct sunlight onto one place causing damage the same is true of sha chi. This can be avoided by rounding sharp edges or covering them with cloth. For example, to avoid sha chi facing a property one could place a ba gua mirror in the position the sharp chi is facing to direct the chi back to it s source. E / REFLECTIVE GLASS: Another useful tip is to avoid buying properties that have surrounding buildings with reflective glass. This glass would 40

reflect negative energy towards your house and cause you unforeseen problems. You can avoid problems by using pa qua mirrors outside your building and keeping blinds and curtains closed. 41

7.) FENG SHUI ORNAMENTS A/ WIND CHIMES 42

In terms of Feng Shui, wind chimes work on the principle of sound to scare away bad spirits. The problem is that in a spiritual way, the high-pitched resonating of a bell sound actually attracts spirits. People usually forget about the conflict and just refer to wind charms in regards to Feng Shui. It all depends on people s varying beliefs. When we talk about wind chimes, we talk about them purely in a Feng Shui way. The element metal is commonly used in the makeup of a wind chime with seven constituent components. Some people use wood, however that would distort the function of the wind chime. This is because in flying star Feng Shui the illness star is number 2 43

and the big trouble star is number 5. Both their elements are earth. If we examine the productive and destructive cycles of the 5 elements, we discover that metal can be used to digest the power of earth because earth creates metal. The reason behind using seven components in wind chimes is because at this time the 7th star is active. Therefore its influence brings the most luck. Some people prefer to use five or six components in constructing a wind chime. However this is not good as number 5 represents the 5th flying star, which is illness, and 6 represents the 6th flying star which is the element metal. The 6th flying star has also passed and is no longer active. 44

When you understand the principles of Feng Shui you can also create a new Feng Shui ornament. For example, some people use coins and the result is the same. B / DRAGONS AND DRAGON TURTLES The function of the dragon is to 45

bring chi (energy) into the house. The dragon has to face outside in order to bring the chi into the house. Dragons control the weather (rain). Water represents money and energy. So we use dragon to attract money into the house. As Dragon Turtles are one of the Dragon s sons and have therefore 46

inherited the same power to control water. As roads also symbolise water, an ideal location to place dragons and dragon turtles is the window sill. C / CRYSTALS Crystals form over millions of years from extreme amounts of pressure and severely high temperatures 47

within the earth s crust. This is the reason why crystals have energy. They also have varying types of energy depending on their colour and shape. They can also be used for different purposes such as healing and opening up your bodies energy channels or chakras. For Feng Shui purposes they can be put in certain areas and positions in the house to absorb negative energy. D / PAYOU In old chinese times payous were extremely powerful creatures, known to be more powerful than lions because they had wings to fly. The army used payous as 48

decoration to intimidate their enemies. Payous were known to characteristically grab hold of money which they refused to let go. A payou can be used for two purposes, for protection to destroy sha chi (poison arrow or negative energy) or it can be placed in the treasure points of a house to increase your money. 49

E / PA QUA MIRROR A pa qua mirror can either be used on the early or late heaven pa qua. The symbols inside the are the same in that they represent either the wu chi (emptiness) or the tai chi. Everything originates from the wu chi and the tai chi. 50

These enable the pa qua mirror to destroy negative energy by reflecting it back in the direction it comes from. There are three different types of pa qua mirrors. The first is a normal pa qua mirror, the second is a concave pa qua mirror which pushes the chi back to it s source and the third is a convex pa qua mirror which is used to bring chi back. For example, if your door faces a street that goes down, a convex pa qua mirror can be used to bring the chi back. It is important that you do not confuse the two! F/ GOURD A gourd is used to store medicine or wine. However, its main function in Feng Shui is to store chi. If an area is losing money a gourd could 51

be placed on the window sill to bring the chi back. Nowadays, a gourd is more symbolic rather than used for practical purposes. G / THE MONEY FROG There is an ancient chinese story about the money frog. It used to be a treacherous monster that devoured people. One day a taoism monk beat up the money 52

frog in order to keep it under control. He then used the money frog to find money. That is the reason why it is placed in the treasure point of the house, to bring in the money for you! 53

8.) FINAL WORD Of course what we have just mentioned is quite interesting for an introduction course. If you would like to learn more about real Feng Shui you will have to look into our other courses that will take you into this ancient art. Many people say Feng Shui is rubbish but if you ask them if they know Feng Shui they will all answer that they don t. That is the case with people who do not know Feng Shui, they always attack it. INTRODUCTION The Yellow Dragon Centre was founded in 1996 by Master Simon Wong. The centre was created to offer Westerners the opportunity to experience the true essence of a broad cross-section of Eastern arts and philosophies so that they could benefit from these teachings in their daily lives. The name of Yellow Dragon was chosen to honour a meeting between a Taoist Monk (Loi Dong Bung) and a Buddhist Master (Yellow Dragon) who shared their knowledge. This resulted in Loi Dong Bung learning to understand compassion and the meaning of long life (to help others), which led him to achieve enlightenment. After this he taught his wisdom and compassion to many people, leading to a great number of them also achieving enlightenment. The purpose of the Yellow Dragon Centre is therefore to teach people how to achieve Enlightenment through the Chinese arts and philosophy. The centre is situated in the heart of London near to the Barbican Conference Centre. It consists of a 1000 sq ft hardwood floored training area, with changing rooms and shower facilities. On the next few pages are further details of these arts and services. 60

YELLOW DRAGON FIST KUNG FU Master Wong created this style as a refined interweaving of the devastating power and aggression of Southern Mantis, combined with the internal secrets of Tai Chi. It also incorporates hard & soft Chi Kung for internal and external power development, together with Tantric Buddhism and meditation for spiritual cultivation. Yellow Dragon Fist strikes a perfect balance between devastating combat skills, health and the highest levels of spiritual cultivation. Initially, training concentrates on building speed & power, through both internal and external training, as these are the most important aspects in a fight. From this solid foundation, you will then learn to harness the hidden powers of your mind, body and spirit to focus as one force, mental discipline being a pre-requisite and foundation to having a balanced and peaceful mind. Finally, you will go beyond a mere fighting capacity - to achieve the ultimate goal of enlightenment. This holistic approach is the real essence of Kung-Fu that made the ancient masters so feared and respected. Yellow Dragon Fist is perhaps the only system in the world to teach this REALessence. 61

CHI-KUNG Chi-Kung is an ancient system of deep breathing exercises. Its history can be traced back over 3000 years to ancient China. Chi-Kung exercises can be divided into 3 levels: Soft Style Chi Kung - can be used for health and to cure illness. Examples include Tai Chi, Five Animals and 100 Day Chi-Kung. Hard Style Chi Kung - can be used in the martial arts. Examples include Iron Shirt, Iron Palm & Iron Head etc. Advanced Chi Kung - develops the chi, so that it can leave the body and can be used to cure illnesses. Master Wong is the UK representative of Omei Mountain 100 Day Chi Kung. This system concentrates on deep breathing, chi circulation and pressure point massage to become healthier; develop the self renewal functions of the body and improve one s sex life. Using it for only 15 minutes a day will cause one s hormone secretion to accelerate enabling you to enjoy prolonged life and regain youthfulness. This Chi-Kung system is a much respected method of prevention & treatment for the conditions listed below: Heart Disease Kidney Problems Rheumatism Arthritis Physical Ageing Partial Paralysis Neurosis Neurasthenia Diabetes Breast cancer Gastrosis Infertility Eyesight Insomnia Stress These are just a small selection. The full range of benefits would be too long to list. 62

TAI CHI CHUAN Tai Chi Chuan is the most famous, beneficial and effective of all the internal styles of Kung Fu. The style is extremely beneficial to your health, will harmonise your mind and body. It is an effective system of self defence that does not rely on brute force, but on the internal energy known as chi. It is therefore equally effective for men and women. Tai Chi Chuan means "Supreme Ultimate Boxing". It is a set of exercises developed by Chang San Fung around 960-1126 A.D to bring the body, mind & spirit together. He incorporated a system of deep breathing with the Shaolin techniques of marrow washing and sinew changing, based on Taoist principles. He developed a style beneficial to health and which could protect a practitioner in combat. However, the real purpose of Tai Chi was to achieve enlightenment. Most Tai Chi Masters now break down Tai Chi into its component parts for health and exercise, forgetting its origins. Master Chu Kim-Hing is Master Wong s Tai Chi master. Master Chu learned from Grandmaster Yang Sow-Chun, from whom the Yang style of Tai Chi originates. This corruption of the art of Tai Chi Chuan began in the Ching Dynasty. Many Tai Chi Masters stopped teaching the fighting aspect of Tai Chi in light of weapons advances around this period, and began to consider the health aspects as being more beneficial to the Tai Chi practitioner. Unfortunately, a little knowledge or an incomplete style can be a dangerous thing, particularly in Tai Chi or indeed any of the martial arts. It is now very rare to find a Master teaching Tai Chi Chuan for fighting and virtually unheard of to find a Tai Chi Master who combines the additional element of spiritual cultivation into the Tai Chi syllabus. Sifu Simon Wong is such a Tai Chi Master. 63

PRAYING MANTIS KUNG FU Southern Praying Mantis systems are a much respected style of Kung Fu - designed to inflict maximum damage on an opponent. This style uses a strong stance from which to defend against aggressive attacks. The wrists are used to manipulate the opponent's attack and force an opening in their defence. This allows for a lethal and devastating counter attack targeted to vital points of the body, destroying nerves, organs and breaking bones - effectively rendering the opponent defenceless. Master Wong is the 7th Generation of Bamboo Forest Temple Mantis. This style of southern mantis Kung-Fu is purely for street fighting, and is not designed to create the look of a bodybuilder. It is a dangerous and cruel Kung Fu combat system, relying on internal power and external toughness, which is developed by training and refining the required muscle, bones and power areas in order to achieve the necessary results in every technique. Mantis power originates from Tan Ging, also known as spring power. It allows immediate release of previously restrained energy in the form of an attack, released in a mere fraction of a second. Though powerful and most effective in its own right, this form of spring power is quite basic compared to the Bamboo Forest Temple's own form, which is known as Kin Tan Ging or The Ultimate Power Of The Mantis. Until recently, Bamboo Forest Temple Southern Mantis Kung Fu was only taught and practiced by the Chinese. However, Westerners are now presented with an opportunity to study and learn this system. Classes are held 7 days a week at the Yellow Dragon Centre. 64

TANTRIC BUDDHISM, TAOISM & MEDITATION Tantric Buddhism employs the most advanced methods of spiritual cultivation, concentrating on internal power and meditation, offering the fastest path to spiritual awakening. However, few people realise the absolute importance of following a real Master and having the proper spiritual lineage. The lineage is essential for the practice to be successful. It confers spiritual power upon the student by granting the legitimate right to learn the practices. This opens up the channel for spiritual empowerment & response. Grandmaster Sheng-Yen Lu is a fully enlightened Living Buddha, who is the founder of the True Buddha School which combines the teachings of Tantric Buddhism & Taoism. He has more than 4 million students around the world who have taken refuge in him, including many well known and highly respected Tibetan Tulkas and Rinpoches. Master Simon Wong is a Vajra Master belonging to the True Buddha School. He is unique in that he is the only Master of the True Buddha School in the U.K. to teach Westerners the secrets of Tantric Buddhism - to whom many esoteric practices were previously inaccessible. He truly understands Emptiness and emphasises the practical application of this understanding in everyday living, bringing out the true essence of the Buddha s teaching - the union of Form and Emptiness. Few people can truly understand and practice this. It is very rare to find a Master who has reached this high level. Master Wong is Chairman of the Jen Wai Tong ( Supreme Chapter, the title conferred upon this centre by the Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu) in Central London, and he welcomes anyone to come to talk with him and learn more about the Dharma. Many activities take place at the centre and everyone is welcome to attend. 66

FENG SHUI The ancient art of Feng Shui (known as Geomancy in the West) is used to maximise the energy of a building, through the correct layout and positioning of the interior and exterior. This will promote health and well being, financial prosperity and good relationships in the home and office. The energy flowing all around us needs to flow freely. If a blockage is caused by an incorrectly designed building, then the energy will stagnate, creating problems and bad fortune. However a building with good Feng Shui will have the opposite effect, leading to higher productivity for a business and better relationships. This type of environment leads to a happy home or a prosperous business. Feng Shui can be divided into 2 major styles - Landscape Feng Shui and Metaphysical Feng Shui. Landscape Feng Shui is divided into large and small variations and can affect your luck for a long time. Metaphysical Feng Shui consists of 8 Mansions, Flying Star and I Ching Feng Shui and can affect your luck for a short time. By combining all these different styles the accuracy of the consultation will be increased. Master Wong is one of the top Feng Shui Masters in Europe and is available for consultations for both home and business. In addition to consultations, he runs regular Feng Shui training courses at the centre. 67

CHINESE ASTROLOGY According to Chinese Astrology, in the moment you are born, the astrological alignment of the planets radiates a specific energy pattern which you absorb. Due to the movement of the planets, if you were born a moment later the energy pattern would have changed. From that moment on you will be influenced by this astrological energy.when the planets are positioned to radiate that energy, then it will be beneficial to you and you will have good luck. However, when the alignment of the planets is bad this will have an adverse affect on you, causing you bad luck. Chinese Astrology is also based on the I Ching (Book of Changes) and the 5 energies. The Chinese believe the universe was created by the 5 elements (earth, wind, fire, water and emptiness) but is controlled by the five different energies (metal, wood, water, fire & earth). The 5 energies or universal processes control these elements through interacting with each other. These energies both create and destroy one another which can have a beneficial or adverse affect on every individual. The energy you absorb at birth will be one of these five primary energies. If the alignment of the planets produces an energy that can destroy your own energy then according to Chinese Astrology, you will suffer a lot of bad luck. However if they produce an energy that creates and enhances your own energy, then your Chinese Astrology chart will forecast a lot of good luck. The I Ching is an explanation of how the universe works according to the influence of these universal energies. From the time, day, month and year of your birth, the Chinese Astrologer is able to find out about the influences that will affect your whole life such as money, success, power, love, health etc. Armed with this knowledge you will be in a far greater position to change your bad luck into good luck, enabling you to live a happier and more successful life. 68

SOUL DELIVERY What is soul delivery? Soul Delivery is a Buddhist Ceremony that guides the spirit of the deceased for a favourable reincarnation or delivery to the Heavenly Pure Lands. Master Simon Wong is one of the few Masters in Europe to combine Taoism and Tantric Buddhism to do this. Who needs Soul Delivery? If you have recently suffered a bereavement of a loved one, spouse, relative, child, friend or pet, you should consider a soul delivery for their spirit. This is particularly so with a traumatic death where the spirit is unable to rest, such as is the case with murder, suicide, miscarriages, abortions, violence etc. What are the benefits of Soul Delivery? The deceased will benefit from a Soul Delivery through having a good rebirth or by going to the Pure Lands so they won't suffer any more. You will benefit by avoiding problems caused by the spirit, and by creating good karma for yourself in this lifetime. IF SOMEONE NEAR TO YOU HAS RECENTLY PASSED AWAY AND YOU WOULD LIKE A SOUL DELIVERY DONE FOR THEM AT THE JEN WAI TONG TEMPLE, PLEASE CONTACT US. 69

I CHING The I Ching is probably the most famous of all forms of Chinese Divination dating back approximately 5000 years. Through the centuries it has been regarded an an Oracle par excellence, winning much acclaim from the Chinese sage, Confucius and used extensively in fortune telling. The Chinese believe everything originates from emptiness (Wu Chi). From Wu Chi, Yin and Yang are created - negative and positive power. These two opposing forces are known as the Tai Chi. The cyclic movement of the Tai Chi creates eight further sub divisions of energy known as the eight trigrams (Pa Qua). The trigrams combine with each other creating 64 hexagrams which represent the 64 types of constantly changing universal power (8 x 8 = 64). These are all recorded in the I Ching ( Book of Changes ) which describes the process of how the universe works and can give you guidance on any questions that you may have. The divination has to be performed by a Master who can harness the universal energies. Six coins are used. Each coin represents a line in a hexagram, which can be yin or yang (positive or negative). After shaking the coins in his palms the order and orientation of the six coins will represent one of the 64 hexagrams. This hexagram is then looked up in the I Ching and the answer to your question will be provided, thereby telling your fortune. Information is today's most valuable business commodity, without which no company can be successful. The I Ching can give you the ultimate inside information and competitive advantage in today's market place. By reducing the probability of risk, the value of this information will be 1000 times greater than the cost. The I Ching is used extensively in the Far Eastern money markets to make accurate forecasts, bringing vast fortunes to those who harness this secret. 70

DIVINATION, FORTUNE TELLING & SPIRITUAL SERVICES Fortune Sticks: This is an ancient method of divination that has been used for thousands of years in China. The method used to find the answers to your questions is to shake a container holding the sticks until one stick comes out. This is done in front of the shrine to harness the spiritual power which will guide you to select the stick that relates to your problem, thereby finding the answer or solution. There are 100 sticks in total, each of which are numbered. When a stick is selected, the number is checked and the explanation relating to that stick is revealed. Palm & Face Reading: Divination from the study of the hand and face was practiced by the Chinese as early as 3200 B.C. It is used to analyse the personal characteristics or major events during one s life span. The shape and physical characteristics of the hand and face will build a comprehensive analysis of the lives of every human being. However, your fate is not fixed. The palm and face can change if a person s heart (mindset) changes. Therefore by finding out your destiny through a consultation, you are in a position to change your character to avoid any misfortune. Remember - forewarned is forearmed. Spiritual Consultations: If your home is haunted or you are having many problems that could be the result of malevolent spirits, then Master Wong can use his spiritual power to exorcise or control the entities involved, bringing peace to your home once again and putting your life back to normal. Talismans: Specially prepared Talismans prepared by a spiritual Master can be used to improve or create health, relationships, business, finances, physical & spiritual protection and exorcism etc. Master Wong is such a Master and offers powerful talismans charged by a Taoist ritual and enhanced with Tantric Buddhist mantras to give the Talisman ultimate power. As the Talisman is individually prepared you can obtain a Talisman for whatever you require. 71

SELF DEFENCE In today's dangerous society, the need for self defence is an essential part of everyday life. Rising crime figures - particularly those relating to violence such as assault, mugging and rape mean that if you don't want to become just another statistic, you need to be able to defend yourself. Unfortunately, most self defence courses being taught are outdated and impractical. What is needed is a system of self defence that is effective on today's streets. A system that has been tried, tested and refined in actual confrontations. We are offering such a system - one that has proved highly effective in many real life situations. The self defence system is based on the Yellow Dragon Fist Kung Fu syllabus, which was created by Sifu Simon Wong - a 7th Degree Black Sash with the AMA - after many years martial arts and fighting experience. The self defence syllabus incorporates the use of pressure point, joint manipulation and strikes delivered to vulnerable areas of the body to incapacitate any attacker. All these self defence techniques are simple to learn but highly effective, ensuring that they can be applied in any self defence situation, giving you the confidence and skills to effectively defend yourself. The Self Defence Courses can be run at our headquarters in Central London, or for group bookings we can conduct the self defence training in your local area or premises. We also run self defence courses for schools, colleges, universities, clubs, women's groups etc. at preferential rates. If you would like more information about our self defence courses, please contact us by in writing or by email or phone (see page ). 72

COMMENTS FROM SOME OF OUR STUDENTS COMPLETING THE 5 DAYS FENG SHUI CONSULTANTS COURSE Paula Leahy, Essex Not the most conventional way to learn but certainly the most fun. I have found the course both beneficial and enlightening and feel confident to go out and help others find harmony in their lives. I have not only gained an enormous wealth of knowledge, but also have a set of reference books full of valuable information - not to mention the pleasure of meeting Master Wong himself. Charlie Pycraft, London I have attended many Feng Shui courses, but after doing this one, it turned out I had spent so much money and wasted so much time on just the basics, which those courses have stretched to their limits. Here I can truly say I ve learned the real thing in its entirety. 83

COMMENTS FROM SOME OF OUR STUDENTS COMPLETING THE 5 DAYS FENG SHUI CONSULTANTS COURSE Carole Parker, Dubai, U.A.E. Well, I ve read all the so called experts books and have paid a fortune so far up till now attending Feng Shui courses which never get to the heart of authentic Feng Shui. These courses are harmful and in no way represent the true authentic Feng Shui. After attending Master Wongs course they have taken me to the heart of real Feng Shui. This course is simple to understand and the notes are very well written and thought through. An excellent course in Feng Shui. Vicki Creek, Lic.Ac.M.B.Ac.C, Wales I am relieved at last to have found a way of Feng Shui that is based on the Chinese philosophy. I now have a clearer picture of how Feng Shui works and how to apply it. I deeply appreciate the opportunities to ask and ask again if I didn t understand anything. Thank you most sincerely. Gifty Kebbay, London At first I thought Feng Shui was an oriental religion, such is the diversity of information on the subject. However, since taking the course, which was a real challenge, I discovered it was a science to be in harmony with your surroundings. The course with Master Wong was presented in as easy to learn format, which was hands on. The atmosphere was warm, friendly and relaxed. For lack of knowledge the people perish - The Bible. 84
