School District of Indian River County Guest Readers schools are inviting guest readers to share their love of reading with students. Reading Buddies Students from different grades read with each other. Reading Oath Elementary students with recite the oath and promise to read, read read! Poetry Contest each school can submit two entries per grade level. District winners will be announced for K-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12. Prizes provided by Renaissance Learning. Glendale Elementary School D.E.A.R. Start off the week be dedicating 30 minutes to reading for pleasure. All students and teachers will drop everything and read. Please choose a time that works best for your schedule. Guest Readers Please schedule a guest reader to visit your classroom. If you do not have one contact Michelle Banack or Kim Slade and we will arrange someone to read to your class. Remember, high school students who need volunteer hours are great resources. Eat a Book Back by popular demand! Please plan on reading a book to your class that lends itself to a snack. For example, Superfudge! Buddy Up Find a buddy class and block time out to get together and partner read. Weather permitting, feel free to take the students outside or anywhere that would make it feel special. Dress Up Day Dress as your favorite storybook character. We will not have a parade as we did this for Halloween. Students go hunting for words that have been placed outside & write it on their recording sheet/checklist. 1 st grade: Decorate doors with camping theme. 2 nd Grade: sequence writing prompt about making a s more, camping, etc. 3 rd Grade: read aloud under a sheet w/ flashlights (scary story) Homework: write a spooky story w/ parents-share Campfire circle Thursday 5 th Grade: Door decorating with Camping Themes (teachers will continue to read the book each day) Kindergarten: Reading under the stars. Students bring pillows and flashlights to find words on stars placed on the ceiling. 2 nd Grade: Create story, If You Give a Moose a Marshmallow 3 rd Grade: Students write about a camping trip. Show a camping picture to help brainstorm the process.
