Biographical Sketch Doug Hansen has been a Fresno-based artist and illustrator for over thirty years. Born in Fresno, CA in 1952, he is the eldest of six children in an artistic family. Doug received his BA in Art from California State University, Fresno, in 1974. He earned his Masters Degree in Art at California State University, Fresno, in 2002 and was selected as the Graduate Dean s Medalist in the College of Arts and Humanities. Doug is a professor in the Department of Art and Design at California State University, Fresno. He partnered with Mas Matsumoto to illustrate a monthly article in the Fresno Bee, which led to the publication of a book, illustrated by Doug, called Letters to the Valley and a second illustrated book by Matsumoto and Hansen titled Heirlooms: Letter from a Peach Farmer. He is also known locally for his 23 years of illustration work at the Fresno Bee, including a weekly series of pen and ink drawings of Valley landmarks called Fresno Sketchbook, which were published as books in 1991 and 1993. In spring 2009, Heyday published Mother Goose in California, a children s ABC book created and illustrated by Hansen. Aesop in California, also written and illustrated by Hansen, was published in 2013. A third book, California, the Magic Island, debuted in 2016.
