Feng Shui For Real Life E-zine Volume 7, Issue #10--October 10, 2007 Welcome to Feng Shui for Real Life, a monthly e-zine that provides Feng Shui tips and other information that can help you bring simple Feng Shui improvements into your life. This e-zine is available by request. To subscribe or unsubscribe, visit: http://www.fengshuiforreallife.com. Carol M. Olmstead, FSII Introducing Feng Shui Analysis of Your Website Did you know that you can apply Feng Shui principles to your website to increase impact and appeal? I am pleased to announce that I am now offering Feng Shui Analysis of your website to help your business grow and prosper. The process includes analysis of the layout, colors, and shapes and how they add power to your message, with the goal of driving additional traffic to your site. The review includes analysis of your home page and up to 10 pages on your site. Please check-out the On-Line Store on my website for information about registering for this service: http://www.fengshuiforreallife.com/website_review.htm. Feng Shui Tip: Fall Clearing Outside Your House Fall is officially here and your lawn is probably already covered with leaves. They may be attractive at the beginning of the season, but dead leaves accumulating on the lawn mean dead chi energy collecting around your home. Be sure to rake your yard often and check your gutters and roof to assure that leaves are not collecting. Fall is also a good time to make sure that nothing is growing on, or over, your house. The image of an ivy-covered cottage may be romantic, but vines growing on your home symbolize something eating away at your life. Trim large trees that grow over the top of your house since they represent issues that are weighing down on you. Pull up dead summer annuals and trim back perennials, then replace them with colorful mums or hardy pansies that will give you color until the first hard frost. Remember to clear out the cobwebs and dust on your porch or patio furniture before you cover it up for the winter. If left untouched, accumulated cobwebs means you are so wrapped up and stuck that you cannot move forward; accumulated

dust represents lack of respect for what is going on in your life. Be sure to clean all of those places like in the window screen tracks, under furniture and grill legs, and around outdoor ceiling fan blades. Clutter Clinic: The Fable of the Magic Geranium Have you ever heard the fable of the Magic Red Geranium? A woman living in a shabby, cluttered house is given an enchanted red geranium by a wise person who tells her to take it home where it will transform her life. She sets the geranium on the table with the stained tablecloth and sees that its crimson beauty makes the table linen look shabby. So, she washes it. Then she notices how her newly washed tablecloth makes her floor seem dull, so she scrubs it. This makes her kitchen walls look drab, so she repaints them a fresh color and replaces the missing cabinet knobs. You can probably guess the ending by now: eventually her entire home is sparkling and she has indeed transformed her life. In Feng Shui we refer to anything in your home that is broken, ripped, torn, stained, and not working as sha chi, or negative energy. Sha chi is a type on clutter that keeps you from attracting what you want into your life. Is there a room in your home would benefit from a symbolic red geranium clutter clearing? Bonus Fact Sheet: Are you changing over your closets from Summer to Fall and deciding what to keep and what to give away? We never use 80 percent of what we own. E-mail me to receive my free fact sheet: 88 Feel-Good Reasons To Get Rid of It about clearing out all that unused, unneeded, and unwanted stuff in your house. The tips sheet includes websites for numerous places you can donate your stuff, take a tax write-off, and feel good while doing it. Success Story: I received this update from a client who had made changes to her expanding home business that not only increased her revenue, but also resulted in the perfect office space manifesting itself when she was not even looking for it. She loved the new office space but missed the convenience of working at home. Here is what she wrote: To make a long story shorter, there was a miracle. I had been wanting to purchase a home for 12 years but nothing seemed to work, was too expensive, in the wrong area of town, no landscaping, to much fixing up, and the list goes on. Then, I found a house listed in the newspaper. It had already been sold but the buyers could not come up with the money so they packed up, left town, and re-listed the home. As soon as I walked into the yard and looked in the windows I knew it was my new home. And I had just the exact amount for a down payment. The house has a separate studio with high ceilings and large windows. You guessed it, the perfect location to move my business back home. I really feel your Feng Shui guidance in my previous home started freeing up the energy and guided me to this home. Feng Shui Q & A Q: Good day, Carol. I am from South Africa and subscribe to your informative newsletter. I wish to place a water feature in the inside towards the left of my front door. Is this good Feng Shui? A: How exciting to hear from a reader in South Africa! Just inside your front door is an excellent place for a water feature. If possible, place it toward the right side of the door (that is, facing into your home as you come in the door from the outside) since people naturally move to the right when they enter a door. Water represents the flow of wealth and abundance into your home so it is a good thing to have near your entrance. Whatever kind of water feature you are planning, of course change the water frequently and keep it fresh. Q: We are redecorating our high school age daughter s bedroom and she picked out a new headboard that is a bookshelf. Is this OK? A: Overhead shelves containing books symbolically create unnecessary pressure on a child s mind. It would be better to choose a more conventional headboard and to avoid having a shelf hanging over the bed. Perhaps you can convince her to select a solid headboard and a freestanding bookshelf on the other side of the room. To help with her studies, decorate the room with inspirational quotes, pictures of people who are positive role models, and posters from colleges. In the News: Feng Shui and Home Sales Tax If only this were true in the US Bad Feng Shui has been ruled a legitimate reason to sell a home in Singapore without having to pay taxes on the proceeds, according to the Straits Times newspaper. The hight court in Singapore ruled that a couple was forced to sell their apartment due to the poor design that ruined the Feng Shui energy, and therefore they did

not owe the government a tax on their gains. The Straits Times reports that the case is believed to be a first in Singapore. Best Life Magazine Look for my interview about Feng Shui for executive offices in an upcoming issue of Best Life Magazine, a publication from the editors of Men s Health devoted to providing information to help executives improve their physical, emotional and financial well-being. The interview covered specific Feng Shui strategies that senior business executives can use to continue to expand their businesses. Want More Feng Shui News Tidbits? Every chapter has an exercise or worksheet to help you move forward on clutter clearing and each author has included a bonus. Beyond Feng Shui: Shop Green These days, it seems that everyone is either talking about and writing about living green, which is certainly Feng-Shui friendly. But a lot of people are afraid to make the switch to environmentally friendly products because they are concerned they will have to pay more or sacrifice quality when they shop. A new site highlights products you can buy that promote smart, sustainable, eco-friendly living. Plus the site gives 5 percent of all profits to a green charity of your choice. If it is environmentally sound, you will find it on: http://shopgreen.pricegrabber.com TV Opportunity Baby Boomer couples are invited to apply for the pilot of a new television show Life Begins at 40. The producers say that they will give a husband and wife team in their 40s and 50s an opportunity to restructure their life and do something they have always dreamed of.
