Club X-TRA together with the Embassies of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland present the 2nd edition of: SOUNDS NORDIC, SOUNDS GOOD! CALIGOLA (SWE), KAIZERS ORCHESTRA (NOR), FIGURINES (DK), MIREL WAGNER (FIN) Live at X-TRA on Sunday January 22 nd, 2012 From Abba during the seventies to Mando Diao today: The Nordic countries have constantly been very successful in delivering contemporary music, whether it is Pop, Rock n Roll or Metal. Despite great competition from large music exporting countries like the United States of America and the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries have gained the reputation of having great, inspiring and trendsetting young talents. The Nordic Embassies together with Club X-Tra in Zürich are presenting now the second edition of SOUNDS NORDIC, SOUNDS GOOD!. On January 22 nd club X-Tra will be filled with great talent from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The evening will have the same winning concept as the first edition early 2011 presenting two headliners and two new talents. This year s two headliners are from Sweden and Norway: Kaizers Orchestra (NOR) have made themselves famous around the world for their amazing live-shows and their songs performed in Norwegian dialect. Caligola is a new, mysterious Swedish project. Björn and Gustaf from Mando Diao, The Salazar Brothers (producers of Mando Diao s album give me fire ) and Natty Silver are some of the prominent members of this collective. The two newcomers are from Denmark and Finland: Figurines, an Indie-Rock band from Denmark and Mirel Wagner, an Ethiopian born finish singer/ songwriter. The program: CALIGOLA (SWE) (photo: zvg)
Before their big live-premiere in Switzerland, Caligola has succeeded in triggering some curiosity regarding their mysterious constellation. Caligola is a group of artists, musicians and filmmakers. Together they explore and experiment in art and there shall be no limits to styles, labels, fashion or types of art. Freedom of expression is what they demand. Gustaf and Björn from Mando Diao, The Salazar Brothers and Natty Silver are known to be some of the musical collaborators but there are even more well know Swedish and international artists that collaborate in the Caligola collective. A first video will be released very soon and so much can be said already now: Caligola will make you dance and deliver a great final of the second edition of SOUNDS NORDIC, SOUNDS GOOD! They have succeeded in making themselves famous far outside the Norwegian boarders, mostly for their energetic and fun live-shows but also for their own unique sound. The musical style is somewhere in between Eastern European gypsy-rock and melodious rock and the six gentlemen named The Jackal, Hellraizer, Killmaster, Mink, Omen and Thunder (all of course called Kaizer as family name) are doing such a good job as they are regularly succeeding in having Swiss fans to sing along in Norwegian! Kaizers Orchestra, who recently played in a sold-out Spektrum in Oslo in front of 9 000 people, will not only play their Kaizers-classics, but also songs from their latest release violeta violeta I. Also expected are some brand new songs from the forthcoming second album in the Violeta-trilogy in Zürich. Web: http://www.kaizers.no Clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zkfxnm-rnq
FIGURINES (DK) (photo: zvg) The clever and musically skilled songs with playful instrumental parts and the wonderful background choirs are some of the many unique things that distinguishes the Danish band Figurines. The band was founded in 2001 in the small village Vestbjerg near the town of Aalborg and stands for new and fresh indie-rock. The band skilfully blends its music with typical sounds from the 80 s (Pixies) and the 90 s (Pavement, Modest Mouse, Built To Spill). In addition to this, it occasionally impresses us with 60's inspired, complex instrumental and slightly psychedelic songs. The Figurines are playing as newcomers at the Sounds Nordic, Sounds Good!-festival, but despite their young age, (not even turned 30) the band can be looked at as veterans in the music business as a result of all their tours during the past years. Mirel Wagner is a 23 year old singer/songwriter who is born in Ethiopia but grew up in Espoo, Finland. Her debut album came out in 2011 and consists of her own songs, some even written when she was only 16 years old. Wagner s musical style is minimalistic, true and raw in a beautiful way and without any unnecessary details. Her very own way to sing the blues and her interpretation of folk-music has received stunning reviews, where she even got compared to great indie-artists like Mazzy Star and classics such as Nick Cave and Leonard Cohan.
