Young CIVIS media prize for young European TV journalists Patron of the European ARD media prize: Pat Cox, President of the European Parliament. Are you no older than 29 years, training as journalist or have only just begun your career? Then send us your best TV or video programme on the theme of integration and multicultural coexistence. We are looking for outstanding contributions which convincingly present the cultural diversity of Europe with exceptional ideas. With the Young CIVIS media prize 2004, reports, documentaries or dramas for film and television will be honoured which promote peaceful coexistence in the European immigration society. Because the combating of racism and discrimination is a pan-european challenge. The media have an important responsibility in this respect: they must report on the complex developments honestly and informatively without denying the existence of conflicts. Please send us your best video on the theme of integration and cultural diversity. The Young CIVIS media prize would like to draw public attention to your workand, at the same time, provide new valuable inspiration. As additional recognition, the ARD is offering the prize- winner a four-week traineeship free of charge in one of the ARD s European television studios, for example, in Berlin, Brussels, Istanbul, London, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Rome, Stockholm, Warsaw or Vienna. The Young CIVIS media prize will be presented on 19th November 2004 in the Hofburg of Vienna. The prize giving ceremony will be broadcast on radio and television. The Young CIVIS media prize for Young European TV journalists is part of the ARD media prize CIVIS for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe. The CIVIS prize for young journalists is organized by the Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations in the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD), represented by Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), together with the Freudenberg Stiftung. The ARD media prize CIVIS is supported by the German Savings Banks Association (Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe), the European Parliament, the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Hungarian foundation Autonómia. Conditions of Participation Young CIVIS media prize for young European TV journalists Closing date for entries 23rd July 2004. The Young CIVIS media prize is awarded as a European television and video prize. Submissions to the competition are restricted to reportages, reports, documentations or dramatic performances which have been broadcast to the public in the period from 1st July 2003 to 23rd July 2004 or which have been officially accepted as final works in the main subject of the course of studies concerned. All forms of presentation are permitted. The entries are to be submitted in the form broadcast to the public or in the officially accepted version. Entrants may not be older than 29 years. Entries to the Young CIVIS media prize may only be submitted by television broadcasting companies, schools, academies and colleges of journalism, communications and the media in the European Union. In the case of television broadcasts, the signature of the editor or the stamp of the department responsible in the television company is required. In the case of video productions, the signature of the head of tuition and the stamp of the school, college or academy are required. The prize is not financially endowed. As additional recognition, the ARD offers the prize-winner four weeks practical experience in a European ARD television studio. Travel and accommodation costs up to a maximum of 5,000 Euro will be undertaken by the CIVIS media foundation (CIVIS medien stiftung GmbH). The television and video entries must be submitted in German, English or French or with an adequate translation of the original into one of these languages. The organisers do not reimburse any costs for entries submitted or any financial expenses associated with them. The VHS video cassettes are not returnable and become the property of the (CIVIS medien stiftung GmbH). An independent jury of leading journalists and media experts decides on the television and video entries submitted and selects the prize-winner. The decision of the jury is final. Individual images, photos and/or parts of the submitted television contributions may also be used in connection with the prize presentation and the reporting on this. The (CIVIS medien stiftung GmbH) may also grant these rights to individual pictures to third parties, particularly sponsors of the prize. With the application for the Young CIVIS media prize 2004, the above conditions of entry are deemed to be accepted. Incomplete or incorrect information may lead to exclusion from the competition.
