Myrczek & Tomaszewski
Voice and piano duo created by two young, but already widely acclaimed jazz musicians: singer Wojciech Myrczek and pianist Pawel Tomaszewski. The strength of the duo lies in confrontation of its member s individual personalities, their music creativity and care for every artistic detail. They carry out their musical dialogue not refraining from ambitious song, crazy improvisation, moment of pensiveness always with a little spice of good humor and highest artistic level.
WOJCIECH MYRCZEK Polish jazz vocalist (born in 1987) in Czechowice Dziedzice. Since he has been raised in the family of musicians, his musical journey has begun early with learning cello-playing basics. During college he has turned his interests to jazz and graduated from The Academy of Music in Katowice (Poland) in the class of jazz singing. He developed soon remarkable skills in scat improvisation supported by his vivid harmonic imagination. In his music Myrczek refers to both instrumental approach to human voice as well as the great song singing tradition. Main Prizes: 1st Prize and The Public Prize of the 11th SHURE Montreux Jazz Voice Competition (Switzerland, 2013) Grand Prix of Jazz Voices 2011 (Lithuania) Individual Prize of "Lotos Jazz Festival - Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa 2010 (Poland) 1st Prize of International Meeting of Jazz Vocalist in Zamość 2007 (Poland) During his career Myrczek worked with Tomasz Stańko, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Anna Serafińska, Michael Patches Stewart, Camerata Silesia Katowice City Singers Ensemble and many others. He performed on many international jazz festivals, i.e. The Hague Jazz (Holland), BlueBoat (Germany), Green Town of Jazz (Poland), Emanacje (Poland), Kolory Polski (Poland). Since 2012 Wojciech Myrczek is a teacher at The Academy of Music in Katowice.
PAWEL TOMASZEWSKI Pianist, composer, arranger, producer. Ph. D. in Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. Graduated in two faculties: piano performance (2007) and composition and arrangement (2006). Besides his own trio he works with Adam Bałdych Imaginary Quartet, Grzegorz Nagórski Quaret, Maciej Sikała Trio and Marta Król. During his career he performed and worked with top international and Polish artists such as: Maria Schneider, Rick Margitza, Eric Marienthal, Dean Brown, Xantone Blacq, Nigel Kennedy, Larry Coryell, Troy Miller, Steve McCraven, Karen Edwards, Judy Bady, Troy Anderson, Steve Logan, Michał Urbaniak, Krzesimir Dębski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Jarosław Śmietana, Urszula Dudziak, Anna Serafińska, Mika Urbaniak, Piotr Wojtasik, Grzegorz Nagórski, Sławomir Jaskułke, Mieczysław Szcześniak, Marita Alban Juarez, Halina Młynkowa, Ewa Uryga, Adam Bałdych. He is a winner of all most important jazz competitions in Poland including: 1st Prize at the International Jazz Standards Festival in Siedlce (2005) Grand Prix and special Radio Kraków Prize at Jazz Juniors Festival in Cracow (2006) Grand Prix of Lotos Jazz Festival - Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa in Bielsko-Biala (2006) Individual Prize at Jazz On The Odra River Festival in Wrocław (2003 and 2004) His presence can be found on over 15 albums, two movies, TV and radio shows. His recording with Grzegorz Nagórski received the most prestigious prize of Polish music industry - Fryderyk - in 2009.
It s incredible, that two musicians recorded such colorful and diverse album, which sounds like symphonic orchestra and big-band - all in one. On the other hand I couldn t expect any different of Myrczek & Tomaszewski. Michael Urbaniak Vocalist Wojtek Myrczek is a wonderful discovery for me. I can listen to him all the time, since his singing brings relief. Wojtek has a beautiful, low, velvet voice, perfect timing, he sings with a drive, swings and improvises gloriously. I bode great success to him and I m proud, that we have such remarkably talented vocalist. I must add, that phenomenal pianist Paweł Tomaszewski who is the other half of this duo must have been of great inspiration for Wojtek. Urszula Dudzia Attention: duo of the year!!
