SAFETY AND SERVICE Please read this chapter carefully and follow all instructions. In doing so you will ensure the reliable operation of and a long life cycle for your 5.1 system. Keep the manual close to your 5.1 system. Store the manual safely so that you can pass it on to the new owner should you sell your speakers. OPERATIONAL SAFETY LOCATION Never open the housing of the 5.1 system, the speakers or the power adapter! There is life threatening danger by electric shock, if the housing of the power adapter is opened. There are no serviceable parts inside. Children should never play unattended with electrical equipment. Children cannot always recognize potential hazards properly. This 5.1 system is not designed for operation in a heavy industry environment. Follow these instructions to connect your 5.1 system properly: A power outlet must be close to the device and easily accessible. Run cables in a way that no one can step or trip over them. The power feed to your device is interrupted only, when the power plug is removed from the power outlet. If you switch off the device using the power switch, then the power feed is not interrupted. Always hold the plug when removing. To avoid damage never pull the power cord. Operate the power adapter only on grounded outlets with 120 V AC ~ 60Hz. When in doubt about the power type at the location, contact the related power utility company. To avoid damage never place objects on the power cord. Do not expose your 5.1 system, the loudspeakers and all connected devices to humidity. Avoid dust, heat and exposure to direct sunlight to prevent operating failures. Place and operate all components on a stable and flat surface, free of vibrations, to prevent the loudspeakers from tumbling. Provide a suitable ambient temperature: 2 SAFETY AND SERVICE

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE The 5.1 system can be operated in an ambient temperature range between 32 F to 104 F and a relative humidity between 20% - 80% (noncondensing). When switched off the 5.1 system can be stored between -4 F and 158 F and at a relative humidity between 20% - 90% (noncondensing). ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPLIANCE The guidelines for electromagnetic compliance (EMC) must be obeyed when connecting. Only use the supplied power cord. Keep a distance of at least three feet from sources of high frequency or magnetic interference (TV sets, other loudspeakers, mobile phones, etc.) to avoid malfunction and data loss. SERVICE Please contact Medion Customer Care should you experience technical problems with your 5.1 system. Note: Depending on the movie title surround sound effects may vary in intensity. the connected source (DVD-player, sound card) must feature the required connections and functions. Furthermore, your 5.1 system must be properly connected and positioned, so that the optimal surround effect can be gained: POSITIONING THE 5.1 SPEAKERS Position the loudspeakers in such a way, that the audience is in the canter. The satellite speakers may be distributed freely. CONNECTING THE 5.1 SYSTEM Please read the chapter "Safety and Service" starting on page 2 before connecting your system. 1. CONNECTING THE LOUDSPEAKERS After having positioned the components connect the cables of the loudspeakers. Use the drawing on page 6 and the table below as guide: Loudspeaker Connection at the 5.1 System ( p. 6) Loudspeaker plug Front left 5, FRONT L RCA White RCA black Front right 6, FRONT R RCA Red RCA black Rear left 7, REAR L RCA White RCA black Rear right 8, REAR R RCA Red RCA black Center 9, CENTER RCA Yellow RCA black 2. CONNECTING THE SOUND SOURCE Your 5.1 system can take input from a PC with 5.1 outputs, a DVD-player, or another suitable source with the corresponding output connections. Tip: 1/8" stereo female plugs are required. When not available, then adapters are required. Attention: Digital connections are not supported and can damage the device. 1. Locate the output connections of the sound source (sound card, DVD-player) and connect the device with the included cables. The connections are usually colorcoded. The colors might slightly vary. Check the manual of your device as a safeguard. Use below table as a guide: Connection on the 5.1 system (p. 6) 2, Front R - RCA red 2, Front L - RCA white 3, Rear R - RCA red 3, Rear L - RCA white 4, Center C white 4, Subwoofer red Connection on the source 1/8" stereo plug 1/8" stereo plug 1/8" stereo plug 3. CONNECTING THE POWER ADAPTER Connect the supplied power adapter to the AC In connector on your 5.1 system (see page 6,)11) and insert the power plug into an easily accessible power outlet. Do not switch on the 5.1 system yet. SETTING UP 9

OPERATION AND HANDLING 1. Check that all volume controls are set to the lowest position. Turn the controls on the front (p. 5 /), ) of the 5.1 system counter-clockwise until you feel resistance. 2. Switch on your sound source and play a suitable title. 3. Now switch on the 5.1 system by flipping the power switch (p. 6, 12) into position I/ON. An LED ( ) will show whether the 5.1 system is in operation. 4. Switch on the desired source ( ) to AUX or 5.1 Input. 5. Turn the volume control of the corresponding speakers carefully clockwise until a comfortable volume level is reached and a balanced sound is achieved. Turning the control counter-clockwise lowers the volume. 6. To turn off the volume, switch off the 5.1 system (position 0/OFF) and then switch off the sound source. 10 SETTING UP

SERVICE FIRST AID BY MALFUNCTION Malfunction can sometimes be caused by trivial issues and sometimes be complex in nature and require thorough analysis. Start with a careful visual inspection of all cable connections. If the indicators are not lit, then check whether the 5.1 system is properly supplied with power. Switch off the devices and check all cable connections. When you are certain that the devices are receiving power and that all connections are made, then switch on the devices again. If the sound is distorted or too low, then adjust the volume controls until the desired volume level is obtained. If you do not hear any sound, then this could be caused by: - the speakers are without power - the volume control is turned down - sound output is deactivated, muted or faulty (wrong format). DO YOU REQUIRE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT? If the suggestions in the previous section did not solve your problem, please contact us. It would help us a lot, if you could supply the following information: The configuration of your computer Do you use any other peripheral devices? Which messages are displayed on the screen? Which software were you using when the error occurred? Which steps have you already taken to solve the problem? If you received a customer number, please supply it to us. SERVICE 11
