Once Upon a Wintertime (All 3-5 Students) Let me tell you a story; I swear that it s true! It s old to me but it s new to you! It happened to all of us so long ago, Once upon a, once on a wintertime! Let us tell you a story; We swear that it s true! It s old to us but it s new to you! It happened to all of us so long ago, Once upon a, once on a wintertime! Yupik: The story takes place right here in our village of Uelene, in the shadow of Polar Mountain and involves all of the important people of our clan. For instance, there is our tribal leader, Yaka! Yaka: Yes! I am the most important person in our village and if you don t believe me, you can go ahead and ask me Yupik: (cutting him off) See what I mean? And there are others, of course: The fishermen, the hunters, the preachers and teachers, the fathers and sons, the mothers and daughters all a part of the amazing Legend of our very own Polar Mountain. Let us tell you a story; we swear that it s true! It s old to us but it s new to you.

It happened to all of us so long ago, Once upon a, once on a wintertime! Yupik: The main character in this story is a little Inuit girl named Galena and her little brother Tagalong. Galena: (running across the stage followed by her little brother) Hurry up, Tagalong, or they ll start the blanket toss without us! Tagalong: I m coming! I m coming! Yupik: Ah! Such a big adventure for so tiny a pair. So I ll tell you this fable of so long ago. It happened away in a land full of snow! Though it may seem like magic, I promise it s so, once upon a, once on a wintertime! Yaka: In our village of Uelene, near Polar Mountain in the far North Land, we have 49 words that all mean snow. There s siku. Villager #6: That means sea ice. Yaka: There s sikursuit, Villager #7: which, of course, means packed snow. Yaka: Sikuluk, Villager #8: which means melting snow and Yaka: Pukak Villager #9: and masaraaq and sinaag and

Yupik: (cutting her off) Well, you get the picture little girl and her brother, ice and snow from earth to sky and a night so dark it seemed to never end. This is where our magical, marvelous tale begins. And all of it is absolutely true! All: Or so we re told! So I tell you this fable of so long ago. It happened away in a land full of snow. Though it may seem like magic I tell you it s so, Once upon a, once on a winter, Once upon a, once on a winter, Once upon a, once on a winter time! Once on a winter time!

Dancing in the snow (All grade 3s, 4 Ward and 4 LaFrance) We re dancing in the snow, sliding to and fro. This is just our favourite time of year. Our cheeks are all a-glow as o er the ground we go. We re so glad that wintertime is here. Everybody come along; bring a friend or two. Sing a very merry song and we ll dance with you! Winter has begun; we re having so much fun! Everyday s a frozen holiday! Summertime is gone; go put your mittens on. We re so glad when winter comes our way! We all smile very wide; nobody is cross. Get yourself a piece of hide; and have a blanket toss! *A BLANKET TOSS!* We re dancing in the snow sliding to and fro. This is just our favourite time of year! Our cheeks are all a-glow as o er the ground we go. We re so glad that wintertime is here! We love to play out in the snow, every winter day. Slow beneath the mistletoe, dance the day away!

Winter has begun; we re having so much fun! Our cheeks are all a-glow! It s party time you know! We are dancing in the snow! Whee!!

Sea of Snow! (The Blizzard Song) (All grade 3s, 4 Ward and 4 LaFrance) Wind blowing! Storm growing! It s snowing, blocking our sight! Wind swirling! Flakes twirling! Ice whirling, dark as the night! See the snow! (x4) Watch it fall (x4) Over all! (x4) We are blinded by a sea of snow! Wind blowing! Storm growing! It s snowing, blocking our sight! Wind swirling! Flakes twirling! Ice whirling, dark as the night! See the snow! (x4) Watch it fall (x4) Over all! (x4) We are blinded by a sea of snow!

See the snow! (x4) Watch it fall (x4) Over all! (x4) We are blinded by a sea of snow!

Lost (All grade 3s, 4 Ward and 4 LaFrance) Lonely moon, millions of stars, Making us feel so small. Nobody standing near me. Nobody there to hear me. Lost! Lonely world, home far away, Wandering all alone. Nobody watching for me. Nobody watching o er me. Lost! So all alone; cold to the bone! I don t know which way to turn! My only dream, I want to go home! Group 1: Lonely world, millions of stars, Making us feel so small. Nobody standing near me. Nobody there to hear me. Lost! Lost! Lost! Group 2: Lost in the stars. Feeling so small.

No one s near me. No one to hear me. Lost! Lost! Lost!

Étoile Du Ciel (All immersion classes and 5 Conn) Étoile du ciel, brille ta lumière sur moi.

Get a Load of Me (4 Howlett and all grade 5s) When you think you ve seen it all, And your back s against the wall, Here s a snow man ten feet tall. Ya gotta get a load o me! When your life is looking rough, And you think you ve had enough, I m the guy with all the stuff. Ya gotta get a load o me! I may look like fluff and fold, Just a big, old pile of fur! I don t even like the cold. It makes me go B-R-R-R, Brrrr! When you re lost in no-man s land, And you need a helping hand, Let your wish be my command. Ya gotta get a load o me! I may look like fluff and fold, Just a big old pile of fur!

I don t even like the cold. It makes me go B-R-R-R! Brrrrr! When you re lost in no-man s land, And you need a helping hand, Let your wish be my command. Ya gotta get a load of, Try to get a hold of, Ya gotta get a hold of me!

You ve Gotta Have Hope (4 Howlett and all grade 5s) Aurora: Hopeless? What s all this talk about hopeless? Galena: I just mean that Aurora: Never fear! Aurora s here! And if you are going to make it out of here, my friend, you just gotta have a little more hope! You ve gotta have hope! You ve gotta have passion. You ve gotta have faith, in every fashion. Don t ever give up. Just keep on going. Keep hoping and I know that you ll keep growing. Just believe and you will find all your worries left behind. Every day that you re alive, you ve gotta have hope! You ve gotta have feeling. You ve gotta believe to be appealing. Gotta let it flow just like a fountain. Keep hoping and you ll climb right up that mountain. Always bring your hope along and you ll see that you are strong. Every day that you re alive, you ve gotta have hope! You ve gotta have hope!

You ve gotta have hope! You ve gotta have hope! You ve gotta have hope! You ve gotta have hope! (x7) Everybody, just believe it now! Everybody, keep on hoping now! Everybody, just believe it now! Everybody, keep on hoping now! Just believe and you will find all your worries left behind. Always bring your hope along and you ll see that you are strong. If you re in a doubting mood, find a hopeful attitude! Every day that you re alive, you gotta have hope! You gotta have hope!

There s a Light (4 Howlett and all grade 5s) Searching out of the darkness, into the blackness of night. Thinking we are forgotten each filled with nothing but fright! Peering in to the shadows, all of our friends out of sight. Calling, no one can hear us. No one is near us tonight! There s a light, bright, shining for us! There s a light to show us the way! There s a light now glowing for us. Just look above and you ll see! There s a light! Wanting just one more moment, Just one more day that is bright. Wishing someone would see us. Someone would set the world right! There s a light, bright, shining for us! There s a light to show us the way! There s a light now glowing for us. Just look above and you ll see! There s a light! There s a light, bright, shining for us! There s a light to show us the way!

There s a light now glowing for us! Just look above and you ll see! There s a light!
