Product overview DBE 4130 broadcast encoder has the power and flexibility demanded by today s versatile video transmission and broadcasting environment to provide the lowest bit rates for any required image quality. Key features: High performance compression Statistical multiplexing capability Add & drop service component capability Data injection capability User friendly management DVB Interoperable Scrambling capability The DBE 4130 is a single service encoder, which performs the compression of video & audio sources. The availability of extensive, field replaceable/upgradable, hardware and software options allows tailoring the system in order to meet the individual requirements. The video source is a SDI signal for the standard model but a composite video (PAL, SECAM or NTSC) source proposed as an option may be used as well. Video compression is performed according to the MPEG-2 4:2:0 MP@ML standard. Two audio channels are processed, which can be de-embedded from the SDI stream or separate analog or AES/EBU audio sources. Audio compression is performed according to the ISO/IEC 11172-3 layer 2 standard. On option, up to eight additional stereo audio can be multiplexed with the primary signals. A TS input option allows a local tributary to be added in the same output Transport Stream. Data can be also entered as statistical multiplexing capability is also available in order to optimise the overall performance. The DBE 4130 has been designed as a 2 RU height, 19" sub-rack, easy to install and operate. Owing to its user-driven menu, it can be easily controlled and monitored either from the front panel keypad or remotely from an Ethernet linked PC manager DBE 4130 Functional Block Diagram SDI PAL, SECAM, or NTSC Composite video 4:2:0 MPEG2 Video Encoding Options 2 stereo or 4 mono analogue audio 2 AES/EBU audio 4 AES/EBU audio 4 AES/EBU audio TS ASI Data AES Input VBI Processing Audio Encoding Audio Encoding Audio Encoding RS 232 Data Interface Data Multiplexing Scrambling ASI Interface TS ASI Ethernet LCD/Keypad Control Alarms p. 2 of 10
Benefits High performance compression Owing to its second generation Thomson chipset, designed in order to improve the performance encoding by new features for pre-processing and compression, the DBE 4130 encoder saves valuable bit rate for the same video quality, thus resulting in higher content efficiency for multiple services broadcasting. Statistical multiplexing capability In addition to high compression efficiency, statistical multiplexing of several encoders output streams provides further reduction in average total bit rate, allowing for more video services at a given bandwidth. It is implemented as the DynaMux software option on the encoder and is operated through the DBS 2910 Channel Controller. Add & drop service component capability Owing to the TS input option, local insertion of TS mapped video can be performed as a service component. Under the control management, this local insertion can be added to or replace a component of the service to be transmitted. As being DVB compliant, the local component may come from any TS source as soon as it is DVB compliant. Data injection capability Several interfaces are available to transmit data along with the video and audio components in the output TS: either as raw data through an RS 232 link (up to 57,600 bauds) or through an Ethernet link (up to 500 Kbps), or as DVB TS mapped packets through the TS input and also through the VBI lines (with PAL signal). User friendly management All the DBE 4130 components can be controlled and monitored through either the DBE 4130 s front panel which provides monitoring facilities as well as control to selected parameters, or through a PC manager loaded with a dedicated control software which provides a remote full management of the system. DVB Interoperable The DBE 4130 insures interoperability with any DVB-standard equipment. A fully DVBcompliant transport stream composed of video, audio and data as well as SI/PSI information is delivered directly in DVB-ASI format. Scrambling capability To protect access to the outgoing transport stream, DVB compliant common scrambling with SAM control word processing is provided as an option. p. 3 of 10

Multiplexing Compliant with ISO/IEC 13818-1 and ETS 300429 Bit rate from 1 to 50 Mbps ISO & DVB tables inserter (PAT, CAT, PMT, NIT, SDT, TDT, TOT, EIT, BAT) Optional : DynaMux (Statistical Multiplexing) (software option, implemented through an HDLC linking of the encoders and managed through the DBS 2910 Mediation Device) TS ASI input Access Control (optional) DVB common scrambling with SAM access control (No need for external EMM/ECM injectors) Management The DBE 4130 management can be achieved either through the front panel keypad and LC Display or remotely from a provisioning server running the DBE 4130 management software. The front panel menu-driven interface allows to select the proper video input (SDI, PAL, etc) to control the transmission parameters and to recall, store or erase up to 12 pre-set configurations. Also controlled through the encoder front panel interface are the basic parameters of the encoder (alarm and bit rate monitoring, reboot, delay mode, scrambling mode) and that of the optional system components (composite video card, additional audio processing, TS chaining) The provisioning server performs the same management functions from a remote location through an Ethernet link, running the DBE 4130 management software. Owing to its Graphical user Interface, the management provisioning software allows to quickly manage the system components and to display alarms and input/output contents (services, components, bit rate). It offers also solutions for maintenance actions: reboot, set device in maintenance status, get serial number of the software release. Optional: TS chained encoder control DBE 4130 Management Software: Example of service display p. 5 of 10
