2-3 Using equipment in LSE teaching rooms The School is has upgraded all teaching rooms to a common standard. Standardised teaching rooms include the following equipment: PC, laptop input, VHS/DVD, visualiser (can be used as OHP), sound amplification, whiteboard and access to the wireless network. The buttons light up to signify the button currently selected. STOP PLAY PAUSE Volume & Mute VOLUME MUTE VOLUME * Lecture Capture available in this room

4-5 Turning the PROJECTOR on and off Press the projector ON button and allow a minute for the projector to warm up If the projector OFF button is flashing then it is still turning off from the last session. PLEASE WAIT A MINUTE for it to stop flashing before turning on again. Once the projector is on, select the input you desire by, firmly pressing the button with the corresponding label. Using the teaching room PC Press the button marked PC To show the computer housed inside the teaching desk. All teaching rooms PCs run Windows XP as well as Microsoft Office 2003 including PowerPoint. If you do not have an LSE network account and need to use a teaching room PC then please contact us. Most USB memory sticks will work automatically by using the USB slots on the front. Using the VISUALISER (document camera) Press the button marked VIS or DCAM to show the visualiser. The visualiser can be used to project printed material, real-time writing and acetates. ON/OFF: Top right hand corner (this is the mains supply to the equipment). LAMP: Upper/Base/Off each push of the lamp button selects the following: a) Upper for paper, books or solid objects b) Base acetates (acts as an OHP) c) Off puts equipment into standby mode. AF: Auto Focus setting, one push will automatically focus (only required if changing magnification as below). Tele: Zooms into the document, focuses in on a specific area. Wide: Zooms out. To reset to default settings, turn off and on again using main power button. Using a LAPTOP There is a laptop input on the right hand side of the control panel and there is a cable for connecting your laptop to this. Once connected please press the LAPTOP button firmly. If there is no cable in the room please call 5300 or 5400 to request one. (Allow up to a minute for the phone to connect.) If you require sound from the laptop an additional cable may be required. Please arrange prior to teaching. To show a DVD or VIDEO Please insert DVD or VHS into the VHS/DVD player and press the DVD button to show DVDs and the VHS or VCR button to show VHS video. Once DVD or VHS has been selected on the button control, the five buttons shaped in a diamond become active. Play, Fast Forward, Rewind and Pause are all operated as seen on diagram above. DVD/VHS Controls STOP PLAY PAUSE NB. In some rooms the DVD/VHS player may be housed in a cupboard under the right-hand side of the desk. V & VOLUME controls and mute button To increase the volume press and hold... VOLUME To decrease the volume press and hold... VOLUME To mute the volume press... (this button will flash when sound is muted) VOICE amplification Voice amplification is available in these rooms on request. Please call 7437 in advance for a microphone to be installed. Quick fixes NO SOUND Check the mute button, check the volume is up, if you are using the PC, check the sound icon in the bottom right corner. NO PICTURE ON PROJECTOR Is the desired input button lit up? Please call 5300 or 5400 for urgent support. (allow up to a minute to connect). MUTE

2-3 6-7 Main lecture theatres Other AV services Standardised main lecture theatres The New Theatre (NT), Hong Kong Theatre (HKT), and TW1 U.8 are standardised teaching rooms. Please see pages 2-5 for instructions Non-standardised main lecture theatres Old Theatre (OT) The teaching lectern and projector screen are only set up for centrally timetabled teaching. For use out-of-hours or during the vacation periods, the lectern will only be set up by prior arrangement. To operate the equipment, please use the touch-screen control panel on the teaching lectern. If the screen is black, touch the screen (not the PC monitor) located on the top left of the lectern to activate. SYSTEM ON To turn on the projector PC To project the teaching PC display. VISUALISER To project the visualiser. Peacock Theatre, Wolfson Theatre, Thai Theatre, Alumini Theatre, Sheikh Zayed Theatre Instructions of use are available via a brief induction session. This can be arranged for the start of a lecture. Please contact us for more details. We recommend you arrange for a member of the Teaching and Learning Spaces Service to be present at the start of your first lecture to assist in the operation of the equipment (see inside front cover for contact details) Use of microphones Lectern mics All lecture theatres have a static microphone on the lectern. Clip-on radio mics In U8, NT and HKT, the clipon microphone is kept in a key code safe. Please contact us for the combination. In PT and OT these are left on the lectern. Table mics In all lecture theatres, table microphones are available upon request. Handheld radio mics A limited number are available in HKT, PT and OT upon request. Public events and out-ofhours support Public events outside of the hours 9am-6pm (Monday to Friday, during term time) will only be supported via prior arrangement and may incur a charge. Not all events need a member of the Teaching and Learning Spaces Service present. Please contact us with plenty of notice before the event to discuss your requirements. Sound feeds, handheld mics and event recording can all be arranged. To book these services, please call Ext. 7437 or email its.av.support@lse.ac.uk Video Conferencing Room State-of-the-art dedicated video-conference room available for a hire charge of 30 plus any call charges (if applicable). Loan equipment Laptops, mobile projectors, USB sticks, handheld voice recorders, PA systems, table top flipcharts are available for loan subject to availability. Audio and video editing Digitisation of VHS, duplication of DVDs and cassettes and film editing can be undertaken on request. Recording of radio and TV shows Most freeview and Sky Channels can be recorded on request. Lecture capture (Echo360) A fully-automated lecture recording system is installed in all of the main lecture theatres, New Academic Building teaching rooms and lecture theatres, and other teaching rooms on campus (see page 2 for full list). The Echo360 system records audio, video (where cameras are installed) and whatever is displayed on the projector. Content is then synchronised into a web page, which is automatically uploaded for distribution via Moodle or email or is made available online. Content is restricted to LSE access only (unless requested otherwise) and is an opt-in service. We do not record lectures without explicit consent.
