1.0 Kit Contents: 1.1 Kit Contents are as follows: a) Heat shrinkable tube (1 ea.) b) 1.5" X 10" 80 Grit Abrasive Cloth (1 ea.) c) Scotch Super 33+ Vinyl Tape (1 roll) d) CC-2 Cable Preparation Kit with 120 Grit Abrasive Cloth (1 ea.) e) Cold Shrink Insulator Tube (3 ea.) f) Scotch #13 Semi-Conducting Tape (1 roll) g) Scotch #130C Rubber Splicing Tape (1 roll) h) Scotch #24 Shielding Tape (2 rolls) E F C H A G D B 2
2.0 Kit Contents: 2.1 Slide heat shrinkable tube onto one cable. 2.2 Position cables, cut squarely and remove cable jackets for 10". Remove cable fillers to jacket. 10" 2.3 Scuff, or abrade cable jackets for 6". Use 1 1/2" X 8" 80 grit abrasive. 6" Outer jacket needs to be clean and abraded to obtain good bond. 2.4 Apply two wraps of Super 33+ tape at a distance 4 1/4" from end of each phase. 4 1/4" 2.5 Bend shielding wires back over 33+ tape. Evenly distribute wires and cut to 3/4". 3/4" For tape shielded cables, use #13 tape and cut off shield at end. 3
2.6 Remove color coding fabric and/or semi-conducting cloth 1/4" beyond 33+ tape. 1/4" 2.7 Remove cable insulation for one half of connector length plus 1/4". (Maximum connector length is 2 1/2") 2.8 Pencil insulations for 3/4". PENCILS MUST BE SMOOTH AND EVEN. Use abrasive from CC-2 Kit. Clean and smooth exposed insulations using CC-2 Prep Kit. 3/4" 4
3.0 Splicing: 3.1 Slide Cold Shrink insulator onto phase, one side only. 3.2 Match phase, and join using proper size connector and crimping tool. Grounds and ground check will be joined later. 3.3 Fill crimp indents with rolled pieces of #13 semiconducting tape. Roll up small pieces of #13 tape and apply in crimp indents. This step is necessary to "round out" the connector and prevent flat spots during subsequent tape build-up steps. 3.4 Apply two highly elongated layers of #13 tape over connector. Overlap 1/16" onto pencil. 3.5 Using the 130C rubber tape, build up diameter of insulation between pencils to level of cable insulation. Apply tape 1/16" beyond top of pencil. 5
3.6 Slide Cold Shrink insulator over connector. Tube will grow approximately 1/4" in length as core is removed, so offset starting position 1/4" towards cable shield. 3.7 Wrap one half-lapped layer of #13 tape across Cold Shrink tube, beginning and ending 1/2" onto metallic shield. 3.8 Wrap one half-lapped layer of #24 shielding tape across previously applied #13 tape, beginning and ending 1/2" beyond the #13 tape. Secure the ends of #24 tape with 33+ vinyl tape. 3.9 Repeat steps 3.1 through 3.8 on the other two phases. 6
3.10 Join ground wires with proper connector and crimping tool. Join ground check wires with proper connector and crimping tool and reinsulate connector area with two layers of 33+ vinyl tape. 3.11 Bind phases, ground(s) and ground check together with Super 33+ vinyl tape with the adhesive side out. This step is needed so that all the phases and wires remain flexible within the splice. 4.0 Rejacketing: 4.1 Center heat shrinkable tube and install, using torch. Shrink tube from the center towards the ends. 4.2 Splice is completed. 7
