421-671 Low Loss RG 402 Equivalent Section 10 Low Loss RG 402 Equivalent In applications that require the bendability of solid dielectric, but with the low loss that only a low density Teflon dielectric offers even at high temperatures, Storm Products' new 421-671 can withstand the heat. This cable exhibits loss that is 30% lower than the MIL-C-17 / 130 limit at 18GHz and 25 C. This RG402 equivalent performs when bent around a mandrel diameter as small as.25 inches, even up to 200 C. Use 421-671 in almost any application where loss is critical, but where space is at a premium. In addition to superior attenuation response, 421-671 has many other advantages including: EXCELLENT THERMAL STABILITY Temperatures that at best would extrude solid PTFE dielectric, degenerating connector electrical performance, and at worst rupture RG402 tubing, have appreciably no effect on 421-671. Even when high temperature solder is required for a high reliability application, the dielectic will not shift, ensuring that there will be no failures due to extrusion, such as an air gap filled with dielectric, or a cracked solder joint. IMPROVED VSWR OVER TEMPERATURE RESPONSE The 421-671 cable dielectric will not shift when exposed to temperatures as high as 475 F. This results in very low VSWR variations over operating temperatures, usually under 2%. IMPROVED PHASE STABILITY Cable Relative Delay Phase Shift in PPM.065 25 C to -40 C 25 C to 100 C 421.671 1,950 365 RG402 RG402 3,550 1,240 421-671 BENDABILITY 475 F for 60 seconds 421-671 passes the bendability requirement for MIL-C-17/130C. This cable can be used in assemblies requiring centerline bend radii as small as.32 inches, with VSWR as low as 1.25:1, depending upon degree and number of bends. Bendability combined with excellent phase and thermal stability make 421-671 an ideal candidate for use in delay line applications. FITS ALL RG402 CONNECTORS Unlike some specialty cable products, 421-671 complies with MIL-C-17/130 specifications 1, therefore along with being made from the most reliable materials, it will also accept standard connector products designed for RG402, including crimp-on designs. 421-671.250 Diameter Mandrel RG402 FOR APPLICATIONS WHERE PHASE STABILITY IS CRITICAL, REFER TO THE "MICROPOROUS PTFE COAX" SECTION OF THIS CATALOG. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CONNECTORS USING CABLE CENTER CONDUCTORS AS CENTER PIN. 1 421-671 low density PTFE dielectric complies with MIL-C-17 type F-5 dielectric specifications.

Section 12 Custom Applications and Solutions Delay Line Cable Alternatives Precision Delay Lines feature minimal delay changes over temperature, low insertion loss, and a wide operating temperature range. These low density dielectric semi-rigid cables can be packaged in a wide variety of configurations (consult the factory for special designs). Additionally, microporous dielectric cables may be bent around a tighter minimum bend radius than both TFE Spline or Boron doped TFE dielectric cables, and are much less expensive than SiO2 cable. Microporous dielectric cable is an excellent choice for delay standards. 50 Nanoseconds @ 10 GHz Outer Attenuation Phase Min. Smaller radii are possible, but not without the risk of degrading VSWR. "A" At higher temperatures, 21 to 120 degrees C, microporous PTFE dielectric cable has slightly better phase response than solid PTFE dielectric cable. However, from 21 C to -50 C microporous cable displays far superior phase response.
