AUDITION GUIDELINES Applications are invited from instrumentalists aged between 14 and 23 years on 14th August 2018. Applicants should be of a standard equivalent to Grade 7/8 Associated Board. Promising players who have not yet reached this standard are also encouraged to apply. Applications are particularly welcome from viola, double bass and trombone players. In addition this year, we welcome applications from saxophone players! Applications will be accepted from musicians born, resident or studying in Northern Ireland, however, consideration will be given to other applicants at the discretion of the board to ensure the necessary orchestral balance. Candidates will be required to play two contrasting pieces of their own choice, a selection of prepared orchestral excerpts and some unseen excerpts to sight-read on the day. A non-refundable audition registration fee of 20.00 is required before an audition can be scheduled. Please make cheques payable to Ulster Youth Orchestra or visit our new website to pay online! Auditions will be held in Belfast between 20th & 22nd December 2017. MEMBERSHIP FEES Total cost per member including tour: 950 We hope that it will be possible to reduce this through a number of fundraising activities which all members will be expected to participate in. Applicants will be required to commit to that level of expenditure, in the form of a deposit of 200 upon offer of place, as we are required to enter into significant commitments for travel and accommodation in order for the tour to proceed. Membership fees cover free entry to all of our activities and opportunities during the year. Payments can be made via our website, by standing order, Paypal or by cheque and a monthly payment scheme will be available to help spread the cost. A limited Bursary Fund is available for students who are in genuine financial need however we expect that applicants apply to their local council, school, college, local business or one of the many Trusts and Foundations that offer student bursaries before they apply to UYO. Further details are available by emailing: manager@uyo.org.uk It is recommended that you begin exploring funding options NOW! DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Friday 3rd November 2017 Late applications will be considered on a case by case basis. Application forms may also be downloaded from our website: www.uyo.org.uk

PRESS REVIEWS This was one of the best concerts in the history of the UYO and it augurs well for its 25th anniversary next year. Great credit is also due to the conductor, the tutors and funders, and not least the parental backing, which made this performance a privilege to hear. The audience responded with a prolonged and deserved standing ovation. Alf McCreary, Belfast Telegraph, 21st August 2017 AUDIENCE FEEDBACK Excellent and very professional. Really excellent and inspiring as always. Wonderful and accomplished performance. Loved conductor. Amazing performance. Such dedication on the part of these young people, they are so talented. A wonderful, memorable experience. Tremendous. Great sound, skill and enthusiasm. I thought it was excellent, so accomplished and exuberant. Excellent. Great to see so many young people enjoying their music and playing to such a high standard. UYO MEMBERS Thank you so much for an amazing time! I enjoy the course more and more every year. We appreciate the hard work you all put into UYO to make this happen. Tour for the 25th anniversary! Enjoyed it so much. Love all the welfare staff and everything seemed well organised. Brilliant experience! Great to play in the Ulster Hall. I really enjoyed all the repertoire because it was the right level to challenge everyone, but exciting music too.
