The ABC s of Latin America Using the Theme of PLACE Final Project Guidelines and Instructions Name: Date: Class: Now that we have completed our study of Mexico and Central America, the Caribbean and South America (otherwise known as Latin America), you will be creating an ABC book about one country in this region of the Western Hemisphere. Your job will be to demonstrate your understanding of the country using the theme of PLACE and a little creativity! There obviously will be a research piece involved, which we will be completing in class. I will be assigning you a country, and you will take it from there. You do have an option you can either work with a partner or you can work alone. Whatever choice you make, you must stick with it. If you choose to work with a partner, choose wisely! Your grades will be attached to one another. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your country is: Book Requirements: Your completed book will be 28 pages in length, including the title page. The first page will be a Title Page. This will include the name of your book, your name(s) as the author, date of publication and an appropriate colored illustration(s). The second page will be information about the LOCATION of your country. It will include: A map of Latin America with your country made to stand out. A map of your country itself with major geographical features labeled. The name of the capital city with its coordinates (latitude and longitude). Two statements that describe where your country is located (using RELATIVE location). The remaining 26 pages (pages 3-28) will be your ALPHABET pages. Starting with A, each page should be about an aspect of your country that starts with that letter and that is either a PHYSICAL or a HUMAN characteristic. For example, your A page may say Alligator if alligators are an animal typically found in the country. This would count as a physical characteristic (category: wildlife). Each page will Contain a title. The title must be written so the letter stands out. For example, Alligator. The title must also include whether it is physical or human. Contain a 3-4 sentence description. For example, Alligators are an animal typically found in the marshes of Florida. Due to Florida s wet, humid climate, alligators strive in the environment. They can also be a threat to humans and other wildlife. Contain a relevant, colored, HAND DRAWN, GOOGLE IMAGE or CLIP ART picture.

Content Requirements: As stated before, you will have pages for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. 13 of these pages will pertain to a PHYSICAL characteristic and 13 will pertain to a HUMAN characteristic. You must clearly identify on the page title what the characteristic is. For example: Alligator Physical Characteristic Wildlife Finished Product Requirements: The pages of your book are to be standard computer paper size (8 ½ X 11). All writing is to be TYPED. You choose fonts, size, etc. All pictures are to be completely colored. They can be hand drawn, google images or clipart. We do not have colored ink at school, so plan accordingly. Each page should be full. Plan out your spacing of the title, sentences and pictures. This should be pleasing to the reader. NO BLANK SPACE. The Title Page must be glued onto a hard piece of card stock. I will provide this for you Your pages can be portrait or landscape. Whichever you choose, you must have a ONE INCH margin on the left-hand side for binding. Your finished book will be bound. Again, I will do this for you. Please Note: You will be completing the research in class. I will have library books as well as the ipads. You may find that you will need to do additional research at home. You will have access to computers in school to do the final typing of your book. Please refer to the time management calendar. I strongly recommend you bring your thumb drive for this project! If you are working with a partner, it is a good idea to try to coordinate working together outside of school or to split up the work. Remember choose wisely. This needs to be someone whom you can trust! If you are not satisfied with your partner, you cannot make a change. You are also able to work alone if you wish. Parent Signature:
