Emerging Markets for LPWA SMART CITY LOGISTICS INDUSTRIAL UTILITIES SMART BUILINGS CONSUMER & MEDICAL AGRICULTURE & ENVIRONMENT 14
Utilities New LPWA connectivity provides a less expensive and less complex means of connecting water meters than earlier technologies. By extending the battery life of meters, LPWA can enable a utility to increase the time between servicing. Lengthening the service cycle from 2-3 years to 10-15 years would dramatically improve the utility s return on investment. Water Meters will show reduction in water use, potentially reducing the need for new reservoirs and they will provide information about leaks on customer premises. 18
Key characteristics which is the right compromise? Automotive CCTV Health Wearables Environmental / Agriculture Water/gas meters Speed, Throughput, Cost/Complexity, Power Consumption Coverage 20
How do make a decision? Where will I deploy? Indoor/ Outdoor? What level of security do I need? Things to consider when selecting LPWA technologies Single/bidirectional communication? Fixed/moving devices? Switching ability? 21
