INNOVATION: SMART LNB FOR CONNECTED TV Interactive Cost-effective Solution Via Satellite

HOW IT WORKS

THE SMART LNB COMPONENTS The Out Door Unit (ODU) The In Door Unit (IDU) Fit on standard dishes and reuse the existing coaxial cable If required, coupled with a 2 nd LNB for TV reception from a different Sat position Smaller versions to come Less than 200mW in transmission Split the signal coming from the dish (ODU) in Coaxial (STB) and IP (LAN) In the future it will be integrated in the Set-Top Boxes 9

BENEFITS OF SMART LNB TECHNOLOGY Forward link in Ku-band (usually full transponder) Traditional DVB-S2 broadcast system performances Return link with high spectrum efficiency Protocol proprietary of Eutelsat, optimised for millions of terminals Based on Spread Spectrum Aloha From 5kbps to 100kbps for each end user, depending on applications Dedicated and scalable network Cost for Return link: a few Euros per year per user Up to 1 Million users per 36 MHz transponder Depends on applications and orbital position 10

SMART LNB - KIND OF APPLICATIONS FOR WELFARE Multi-screen and multi-devices IP TV channels are distributed to any connected device (tablets, smartphones,..) Push VOD (Video on Demand) Encrypted contents are pushed on the STBs; Customers buy the chosen content directly over the satellite return link (as simply as for terrestrial offers) Digital Rights Management (DRM) for live streaming and Push VOD In pay-per-view models, the billing and the exchange of the right keys start over the satellite return link Voting, Betting, etc Social Such as Twitter and Facebook, related to a TV programme 11

INNOVATION: HYBRID SOLUTION Ku/Ka applications

HYBRID SOLUTION IN KU/KA-BAND TERMINAL A new generation of satellite services terminals with Ka/Ku band Dichroic Subreflector The Dichroic Subreflector can work to any size of usual standard Ka band VSAT antennas and works in the entire Ku band 10.7 to 12.75 GHz Solution in commercial use, 500 units working in Greece Unit tailored to Tooway consumer terminals, other terminals would require mechanical adaptation

HYBRID SOLUTION IN KU/KA-BAND TERMINAL Customer Experience 3 + 1 Services in the same orbital position: Hybrid Ku/Ka antenna Triple play services including IPTV Security Training, Corporate Training, etc Tooway modem Videoconference VoIP phone Ka Rx/Tx Ku Rx for Pay TV Gaming Set-top box L/S band cable User PC IPTV box User TV screen Ethernet cable SCART/DVI/HDMI for TV Benefits of Ku-band for multicasting and Ka-band for broadband
