Intrductin This manual applies t mdels CF7H50, CF3H50 and CF36H50, and there are slight differences amng them. The frnt and rear panel illustratins in the text are based n CF3H50. Check the mdel f yur TV befre using this manual. Installing yur TV Where t install Place the TV n the flr r n a sturdy platfrm. The munting surface shuld be flat and steady. Lighting D nt place the TV in a rm where direct lighting strikes the screen, Use sft and indirect lighting. Air circulatin Place the "IV far enugh frm the walls t allw prper ventilatin. This will prevent the TV frm verheating and avid pssible damage t the TV. Avid dusty places t. Pwer supply Plug int an electrical utlet with standard husehld pwer (10 vlt AC, 60Hz). D nt change the plug's safety prng. See the right clumn. WARNING : TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY D nt stand r climb n the TV. D nt put a VCR r any heavy bject n tp f the TV. CAUTION : As a safety feature, the plug has ne prng wider than the ther. It will fit nly ne way int a standard electrical utlet. If the plug will nt fit int the utlet, try turning it arund. If the plug will nt fit either way, the utlet is prbably ld and nnstandard. Yu will need t Wide prng have a new utlet installed by an electrician. DO NOT CHANGE THE SAFETY FEATURE OF THE PLUG. 4

Antenna/Cable TV Cnnectin Yu can use either an indr r utdr antenna t receive VHF and/r UHF channels. Channels - 13 are VHF channels, and channels 14-69 are UHF channels. We recmmend using an utdr antenna fr better picture quality. Yu can receive Cable "IV by cnnecting a cable supplied by yur lcal cable cmpany. Antenna/Cable TV Cnnectin (Cntinued) After ANTENNA/CABLE cnnectins are made, yu are still required t cnnect the VCR using VIDEO/AUDIO cnnecting cables fr playback f gd quality frm the VCR. Befre Using the Remte Cntrl With this Remte Cntrl, yu can perate yur TV and mst mdels f remte-cntrlled VCR's and Cable TV cnverters even if they are different brands. Hwever, this Remte Cntrl must first be prgrammed t cntrl ther brands f VCR's and/r Cnverters. If yu will be L_sing=_ur TV set with a TOSHIBA VCR, yur Remte has already been preprgrammed fr yu. Befre attempting t perate yur Remte Cntrl, install the batteries accrding t the sectin "T install batteries" shwn belw. Fr mre detailed instructins, see the sectin "Prgramming the Remte Cntrl" n page 11. Ntes: After installing new batteries, the Remte Cntrl will set itself t the cdes fr TOSHIBA's "IV and VCR. If yu are using the Remte Cntrl t perate equipment that uses different cdes, it will have t be reprgrammed fr th.se cdes. This Remte Cntrl may have functins nt available n the riginal remte cntrller. These functins may r may nt perate yur VCR r Cable "IV Cnverter. Refer t the wner's manuals supplied with the equipment t see which functins are available. The remte cntrller supplied with yur VCR r cable TV cnverter may have keys nt duplicated n this Remte Cntrl. If these functins are desired, the riginal remte cntrller will have t be used. m Place the Remte Cntrl with the face dwn. Press dwn n the ridged area f the battery cver and slide it ff. Press and slide t remve. CAUTION: D nt thrw yur batteries int a fire. Dispse f yur batteries in a designated dispsal area. D nt cmbine used ld batteries with new nes. D nt mix battery types. c- Q) E 6 Place tw "AA" size batteries, matching the + and - signs n each battery t the + and - signs f the battery cmpartment. Tips fr Best Operatin Fr ptimum perfrmance, aim the Remte Cntrl directly at the TV frm a distance f n mre than 16 ft (5m) and be sure there is n bstructin between the Remte Cntrl and the TV. If yur Remte Cntrl des nt always adjust the TV as yu wish, yu prbably need t replace the batteries. Remve dead batteries immediately t prevent baftery acid frm leaking int the battery cmpartment. If yu d nt intend t use the Remte Cntrl fr a lng perid, remve the batteries. e-.= == E. t- "6 3 Replace the battery cver until the lck snaps. --I

Using the Remte with VCR r Cable TV Cnverter. T cntrl a TOSHIBA VCR, first set the TV/CABLENCR switch t "VCR" psitin. The buttns shwn belw will t]_-ncntrl the VCR. The rest f the buttns perate the TV as usual. If yu have anther brand f VCR, yu can prbably prgram yur Remte t cntrl it. Details are n page 11. T cntrl a cable TV cnverter, this Remte Cntrl must be prgrammed t recgnize the brand f yur cnverter. Q See page 11. The shaded buttns can be used t cntrl the cable TV cnverter. Set the TV/CABLENCR switch t "CABLE" psitin whenever yu cntrl the cable TV cnverter. Aim at the VCR r cable TV cnverter B / I Channel Number buttns Press the numbers desired fr direct access. "':1 @0 O0 POWER buttn Press the buttn t turn the VCR (r cnverter) n. Press again t turn ff. ENTER buttn Sme VCR's and cable TV cnverters change channel require "ENT" t numbers. TV/CABLE/VCR "CABLE": T cntrl switch the cable TV cnverter "VCR": T cntrl the VCR TV/VCR buttn Press t select the TV mde t view ne prgram while recrding anther prgram. CHANNEL / buttn Press t select next higher channel. Press t select next lwer channel. STOP buttn Press t stp the tape. PLAY Press t begin tape playback. 1 REC(recrd) buttn Press t start recrding. SLOW buttn Press t view picture a slw-mtin in playback mde. PAUSE buttn "Press to freeze the picture during playback r recrding. Press again t release. FF (fast frward) buttn Press t rapidly advance the tape. In playback mde, press t view the picture mving rapidly in frward directin. -- REW (rewind) buttn Press t rewind the tape. In playback mde, press t view picture mving rapidly in reverse. 10

Prgramming the Remte Cntrl This Remte Cntrl is preprgrammed t perate TOSHIBA VCR's. T use VCR's ther than Tshiba mdels (r cable cnverter), perfrm the fllwing prcedures befre perating. 0 O0 ICR STILL SOURCE PIP PAUSE REW FF SLOW r-_ QD 1_53CSD LOCATE TOSHIBA SWAP RECALL Number 1 Refer t the _VCR cde table" (r "Cable TV cnverter cde table') n pages 1 and 13 t find the cde number that crrespnds brand name f yur VCR (r cnverter). t the If mre than ne number is listed, try each ne separately until yu find the ne that wrks. Set the TV/CABLE/VCR switch t "VCR" (r "CABLE"). 3 4 Ntes: Hld dwn RECALL while pressing the Number buttns fr the three digit cde number fr yur brand f VCR (r cnverter). Pint the Remte Cntrl at the VCR (r at the cnverter) and press POWER t test the cde number. -If the right number was entered, the VCR (r the cnverter) shuld turn ff. -If the VCR (r the cnverter) des nt respnd t the Remte Cntrl, repeat steps 1 t 4 with anther cde number. Yu have t reprgram batteries. the Remte Cntrl when yu change its Sme newer VCR's are capable f wrking n either f tw remte cdes. These VCR's have a switch labeled "VCR1/VCR". If yur VCR has this kind f switch, and des nt respnd t all.the cde numbers fr yur VCR brand name, set the switch t anther psitin ("VCRI" r "VCR") and reprgram the Remte Cntrl. 4) E Q h- e,e EE Q. Prgramming the Remte Cntrl (Cntinued) in sme rare cases, yu may nt be able t perate yur nn-tshiba equipment with the supplied Remte Cntrl. This is because yur equipment may use a cde that is nt prvided with this Remte Cntrl. In this case, please use the equipment's VCR cde table wn remte cntrl. Operating Clsed Captining Feature Clsed-captining is a printed versin f the dialgue, nal_ati_n, and/r sund effects f a TV prgram. Captins will appear at either the tp r bttm f the screen during captined bradcasts as shwn. Captining is especially helpful fr hearing impaired individuals.
