The ork at irst stirred u controversy because some believed it as irreverent to resent a religious subect in the concert hall. ut King George as so imressed at the London remiere o Messiah that he stood u during the Halleluah Chorus. Some say that he as merely stretching. Regardless the rest o the audience as obligated to stand in resect or the king thus beginning a custom that is still olloed today. n this arrangement by Andre H. The gentle astoral Symhony begins the arrangement ith the harmonized melody in the uer strings and the edal accomaniment in cello/bass. Take care not to drag the temo. Ater a ermata (m.19) the melody to He Shall eed His lock is layed by the violas and cellos hile the temo remains the same. Harmonies in the violins and basses should be quite subordinate to the melody in this section. A direct modulation to D Maor (m.0) and a quicker temo marks the beginning o O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings. The eighth notes in the modiied melody are divided beteen 1st violins and 2nd violins and violas; the eect should be one o seamlessness. olloing a ritard the ugue-like theme to or nto s a Child s orn is heard (m.63). t soon merges (m.75) ith the Halleluah Chorus theme. The various melodic subects o this great chorus are uxtaosed in an abbreviated ashion until the inal cadence (m.131) hich should be suddenly sloer in the traditional manner. revie Only Legal se Requires urchase
