Robinson Crusoe Adapted by Charlotte B. Chorpenning Dramatic Publishing

Robinson Crusoe Original production by the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Ill. Adapted by Charlotte B. Chorpenning. From the story by Daniel Defoe. Cast: 10m., 2w., 1 either gender, plus a parrot puppet. Young Robinson Crusoe, defying the wish of his parents, leaves his comfortable English home to sail for the Horn. Shipwrecked near an uncharted island, his life is spared. Faced with the prospect of a long and lonely lifetime in this isolated condition, he makes use of native foods and fabrics to make himself necessities and even comforts. One day, he has the good fortune to rescue a native from cannibals and, in a moving scene, begins to teach the native his language and customs. Their eventual rescue by an English ship brings the play to a dramatic conclusion. Production notes are available in the script containing details on costumes, set, props and characterization. Two sets. Costumes: English and primitive costumes of the 17th century. Approximate running time: 55 minutes. Code: RA2.
