GERMANY PHILATELIC SOCIETY LIBRARY A02.26 (In German) B06.174 (In English) The Germany Philatelic Society Library is currently located at the Baltimore Philatelic Society clubhouse. The first edition of the catalog was printed in 2002. In 2007 a revised edition was done and listed on the GPS website. Since that time there has been many new items added. In addition several sections have been revised and updated. The latest edition is now available on the GPS website. You may also order a hard copy, 3-hole punched paper, via mail for $7.00pp. A new disk version will be available in January 2010. The cost is $5.00pp. All checks to the Library must be made out to Robert E. Gibson, Sr. and NOT to the GPS Library or Germany Philatelic Society. Members are required to use the ordering form when requesting material. A copy will be found on page vi. Three new copies will be mailed to you when ordering material. More information about the rules and ordering material will be found on iii. Shown above are two book covers of items in the Library. One is in German and the other in English. LIBRARY RULES (2009) All members of the Germany Philatelic Society may borrow any item in the library unless the item has been identified by the librarian as excessively delicate or valuable. Borrowers must be members, in good standing, and give their GPS membership number when requesting material. A record of returning material late or in poor condition can lead to suspension of library privileges. RENTAL CHARGES 1) Books, catalogs, periodicals and clippings are lent for a period of 30 days from the day of receipt. 2) The rental charge for books and catalogs is a base fee of $4.00 per shipment and $1.00 per item to a maximum of five items. Thus an order for one item will cost $5.00, two item s $6.00, etc. In the event that an item is unavailable, a portion of your payment will be refunded. The fees for periodicals such as the GPS Specialist, any GPS Study Groups Bulletins or the BDPh Study Groups (ArGe) will be calculated at time of request. Please Note: All checks must be made out to Robert E. Gibson, Sr. and not GPS LIBRARY or Germany Philatelic Society. 3) Xerox copies of library material may he obtained for 20 cents per page with a minimum charge of $2.40. In some cases, where the desired item is a short magazine clipping, the librarian will automatically send you a xerox copy for you to keep. 4) The borrower must pay return postage charges and must package the material securely to ensure return to the library in good condition. This cannot be over emphasized! Pack carefully and fasten securely. Use MEDIA MAIL to save postage! Make sure the material is sent to the Robert Gibson, c/o GPS Library, P.O. Box 912, Glen Burnie, MD 21060-0912. 5) Members living abroad should write or send an email to the librarian first to obtain appropriate charges. The basic fee for Canadian members is $6.00. 6 A fine of 20 cents per day per item is chargeable for all library material kept longer than the time period stated on the order form included in your package. 7) The borrower will be held fully responsible for all material while in their possession and will be expected to replace or make suitable restitution for all material lost or damaged while in their possession. Failure to return or replace any item borrowed can lead to suspension of library privileges. In order that the GPS library may continue to grow, we solicit donations of German related philatelic material (books, periodicals, catalogs, clippings, maps, etc.) from members. These donations will be acknowledged in the Specialist and since the Society is incorporated as a nonprofit, educational organization, the donations can be claimed as a deduction on your income tax return. iii

GPS LIBRARY THE CATALOG SYSTEM The cataloging system is loosely based on the set up of the MICHEL DEUTSCHLAND SPEZIAL KATALOG Vol.1 & 2. There are now 17 sections. See page v for a complete listing. Everything is now in a logical order beginning with Section A) The Old German States and ending with Section S - Remainder [material that may be too broad to fit into anyone specific section, topic or category]. Each item in the library is now listed using an Alpha-Numeric format [see below]. ALL BOOKS AND PERIODICALS Example: A01.01 A = Old States A01 = Baden A01.01 = [Baden] ALT-DEUTSCHLAND UNTER DER LUPE by Mueller Mark, Vol. 1 - Baden. A14.01 = [Saxony] ALT-DEUTSCHEN UNDER DER LUPE by Mueller Mark, Vol. 10 Saschen. CLIPPINGS All the clippings are now keep in separate folders and the listings will be found at the end of each subsection. They begin.500 followed by CL. Example: B01.500CL: B01 = Deutsches Reich: 1872-1918: B01.500CL = The Germania Stamps with Overprints issued by the Republic of Poland, 1918 to 1919 by H. Hinz, clipping from Germania, 5 pp. Occasionally, after certain section listings, you will find the following sub heading: Miscellaneous [non-topic specific]. This means that the items listed are a compilation of topics within the specific section and may contain material relating to two or more areas within that section. Note: The vast majority of material, in the library, is written in either English or German. However, some items are in French, Italian, Polish or Croatian. iv
