AE: A Scandinavia tour on the road. Your favourite filmaker? F: Milos Forman. AE: Tarantino is amazing. I love Tornatore too. The most overrated band of all time and your favourite one. F: The Queen, I suppose. My favourite band is Steely Dan! I m a really big fan of them! AE: I can tell you the most underrated band, XTC...My favourite ones are The Beatles. Among the latest trends in electronic music, is there one you can t suffer? F: I can t think of any trend in particular. AE: I don t like metal /rave trend. What is the question you d never like to hear while playing on the desks? And the most absurd question? People can ask you any kind of questions, I once was asked for a slow song...in the middle of the night! :F Sorry, where s the dj?. The most absurd question is: Can you play some commercial/latin music? : AE Is there a night in particular where you keep a bad memory of? Tuesday 26 January myspace.com/tensnake Tensnake INterview by Matteo Quinzi If a person for the first time listening to your music, without knowing anything about you, very difficult to say that you came from Germany. Your sound is so deep, warm and catchy that could be easier from Chicago, New York or a latin country. Where and how do you find it? Deep and Warm are two attributes that I always appreciate in music, so thanks for that! I think my sound is just a big potpourri of all the music I have listened to since I got my first cassette player. I always enjoyed all different kind of music, and always had a soft spot for melodies. Then I started buying vinyl back in 92, mainly house stuff. Of course a lot came from NY, Chicago or Detroit. It was like a whole new universe for me, so many amazing releases had to be discovered. That period of time definitely had big influence on me. Tell us about your carrier in music first the explosion with the project Tensnake. Do you already played and produced this specific and personal sound or have you passed first through different styles, like minimal techno or electro, for example? Maybe some of my tracks do have more a house or techno vibe, others are more disco or pop influenced. I think a song or track is always just a result of my emotion while I am working on it. Whatever comes out in the end So no, I am not trying to produce for a specific genre. But of course I started somewhere else than what I am doing today. Otherwise there would not be any progression, which would be boring ;-) Which is the origin or the story of the Tensnake moniker? I am sorry, but there aint no story behind it ;-) Which could be the perfect definition for your music? What do you think about all the hype around the nu disco producers? Do you feel comfortable in this scene? Hmm I dont know, i find it hard to define my own sound. In generell I always feel comfortable with things that are connected to disco ;-) But I really dont see myself as a Nu Disco producer. I am not a big fan of new music genres. They are important for the media, so they can name the next big thing and write about. It is useful to keep the machine running. But when one thing is over, what next? You stop producing music? For me the most important thing is to have fun with my stuff and to try to produce something, that lasts a little bit longer. You have remixed a lot of artists like Junior Boys, Foals, Sally Shapiro, The Faint that came from different scenes and styles and they sounds really different from the originals and each other. Do you have specific parameters when you remix a song or is more like a sound vision? Whenever I get a remix request I need to have an idea from the very first listening session. If I dont get it, I wont do a remix. And as you said, my interpretation can be different in many ways. Unfortunately it is not always matching with the idea the label had. You have released a lot of wonderful ep and singles for different labels like Mirau, Radius or Running Back. How long we have wait for listen your proper debut album? I have no idea. But 2010 is very much related to TENsnake, dont you think so? Three fundamental artists that inspiring your music and your life and the track that you have dreamed and you would have paid to write? Oh man, there are so many, but ok: Arthur Russel, Derrick May e Bernard Edwards. My favorite song is How Long by Ace. Which are your plans and hopes for your carrier in the 2010? Is there a producer or musicians which one you would like to collaborate as soon as possible? There are definitely a few people I would love to work with, especially some singers. I am already in contact, but cant say anything about it right now, as it is too early And I am really looking forward to Tim Sweenys label coming up. I absolutely appreciate his work and I think he will have some amazing releases in 2010 ;-)
