4 HOW TO ASSEMBLE Operate carefully to avoid pinching your fingers or dropping anything on your feet. Use a Hammond ST-XLK3 or any other stable stand with 4 legs. Do not use any singe-column type or X-frame type stand. 1. SIDE VIEW Mount the XLK-3 on the keyboard stand. At this time, make sure the center of the stand comes to the center of the XLK-3. Fit the rubber feet of XLK-3 to the holes of the keyboard stand if it has that. Otherwise, or, if it is not stable, there is a risk of turning over. 2. See the illustration on the next page. Pass the cables for connection through the opening on the bottom of the XLK-3. 3. There are two dowels on each side of the XLK-3 (total 4 dowels). Carefully mount the XK-3/3C on the XLK-3 so the dowels fit into the 4 holes on the bottom of the XK-3/ 3C. 4. It looks like this after perfectly assembled. To disassemble, reverse the above steps.

HOW TO HOOK-UP 5 Place the cable labels as the need arises. Fix the cables by using cable clamps as the need arises.

6 HOW TO SET UP Turn on the power of XK-3/3C. After a little while, the PLAY screen will be displayed and the LED on the XLK-3 will automatically light on. Select the page D using the [PAGE] button. Touch the [MENU/EXIT] button. Touch the [2]MIDI button. You can return to the PLAY screen using the [PLAY] button. Select "Seq. Record" by the [1] PARAM button. Touch the [4]RECL (=Recall) button. Now the set up is complete. This set up is stored if the power is switched off. Transmitting Velocity: The XLK-3 senses no velocity Always the maximum value is transmitted in default. For sensing and sending the velocity, turn on the power while pressing one of the Preset Keys on the left hand side of the XLK-3.

PLAYING THE XLK-3 7 When you hook up the XLK-3 to the XK-3/3C and set up as shown on Page 6, the manual on the XK-3/3C operates as the UPPER part, and that of the XLK-3 as the LOWER Part. The XK-3/3C can recall the Combination Preset for the LOWER Part (including the PEDAL), independently of the UPPER Part in the same BANK. RECALL THE LOWER PRESET UPPER: Light LOWER: Blink Slowly The XK-3/3C recalls all Parts (UPPER, LOWER and PEDAL) combined, when you touch the Preset Keys, as the factory default. The Preset Keys on the XLK-3 are used to recall the LOWER (and the PEDAL) Preset independently. For example, when you touch the Preset Key [E] of XLK-3 during the Combination Preset of the XK-3/3C is in F-D, it recalls the LOWER and the PEDAL Parts F-E, while the UPPER remains in F-D. In such a case, the Preset LED's on the XK-3/3C light on, indicating the UPPER Parts, while those for indicating the LOWER and the PEDAL Parts blink slowly (XK-3), on green (XK-3C). Touch To recall the LOWER/PEDAL Presets only from the XLK-3 and not from the XK-3/3C, turn off the PRESET - LINK L/P function in the PRESET FUNCTION screen. For details, please read the PRESET section of Setting the Parameters in the XK-3/3C Owner's Guide. RECORD THE LOWER PRESET Touch LOWER: Blink Fast then Slowly Touch and Hold You can memorize the setting for only the LOWER and the PEDAL Parts for the XK-3/3C in the same BANK. Ex: Record to the Preset Key [G] Touch and hold the [REC/JUMP] button of the XK-3/3C, and then touch the Preset Key [G] of the XLK-3. The following message is displayed in the XK-3/3C for a certain length of time: Recording Preset... When the recording is completed, the LED on the Preset Key [G] quickly blinks for a while and then slows down (XK-3), on green (XK-3C). Now the recorded Preset Key is automatically selected. And the screen returns to the previous display. Note: Preset Key [B] can not memorize in this way.

8 USING THE CU-1 LESLIE SWITCH The CU-1 Half-Moon shaped Leslie Switch to this keyboard can be attached. This switch controls the Leslie speed (slow, fast, stop) like on the B-3 / C-3. 1. Attaching the body of the CU-1 Operate it similar to the figure left. CU-1 can be used for various instruments. For some a spacer is needed. But do not use the spacer attached to CU-1. XLK-3 can be attached the CU-1 directly. The XLK-3 has 3 holes to attach the CU-1, you can choose the mounting on 2 positions. Use the two thumb screws to mount the CU-1 in the desired position. 2. Connecting to XK-3/3C Insert the plug of CU-1 into FOOT SWITCH 1 input of the XK-3/3C. See the owner s manual of the CU-1 and XK-3/ 3C for more details.

TROUBLE SHOOTING 9 In such cases as follows: The XLK-3 does not turn on when the XK-3/3C is switched on. The 8-pin cable used is not right. >> Use only a 8-pin cable supplied with the XLK-3. XLK-3 is powered through the 8-pin cable. The Manual Bass does not function on the XLK-3 manual. The setting of the XK-3/3C is not correct. >> Correct the MIDI template in the XK-3/3C MIDI function screen. (Page 6) Using the Upper Presets (on XK-3/3C) will also change the sound of the Lower Presets (on XLK-3). Change the setting of XK-3/3C preset as follows ([MENU/EXIT] - page A - [2]PRE- SET - [PAGE UP]). UP: On LINK-L/P: Off DRAWB: On PERCUS: Off INT: Off EXT: Off EQ/RV: Off ANI/OD: Off
