Precursors Historical piano collection 2011 Inventory number 1 Anonymous, southern Germany Tirol (Innsbruck area) 1580-1630 Harpsichord, two manuals No longer present. Constructed around 1580-1630, probably in the Innsbruck area. Italian construction, walls cherry wood, lid linden. Body measurements: 225 x 79 = L x W. Extent H 1 - c 3, without coupler. Quill action, 2 x 8', various striking points. Individual history: Remodeled around 1620 Into a Flemish type transposing harpsichord (with a rosette from this period), then restored to its historical condition with homonymous manuals, converted by a monument conservator around 1920 into what is known as a Bach piano (16'8'8'4'), inside deformed by frame of joists, later declared a war loss, reappeared in private ownership (1980s), restored to 2 x 8. Acquired 1994 from private owner. Restored in August 1996 by Peter Zehmisch, Hamburg, and Gerd Sühring, Aukrug. 3

Cherry veneer, long wall unveneered pine, lid with checkerboard pattern, inside lid covered with wallpaper. Body measurements: 208 x 96 = L x W. Extent: F 1 - f 3. Lower keys ebony, upper keys bone layer. Vienna action, hammerheads covered with leather, damper box. Two knee levers to cancel the damper. Bought in 2000 by Wolf Dieter Neupert. 6

Shortened from originally ca. 240 cm to currently 170 cm length, width 128 cm in the second half of the 19th century. Extent C 1 - g 4, lower keys ivory, Vienna Action, hammerheads covered with leather, damper box. A metal brace between f and fis. Metal annex bar added when the instrument was shortened.
