The start of Ellen s career Ellen originally dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but eventually retired from that idea, claiming she was not book smart. She worked at small everyday jobs to get by, but soon discovered her liking for comedy. In 1981, she started performing standup comedy at a local coffeehouse, where she was a big hit.
She started receiving several offers to do standup, and eventually got her debut in 1986 on The Tonight Show, Starring Johnny Carson. In 1994, Ellen starred in her own ABC sitcom, Ellen, where she first openly came out about her sexuality. This show was the first in history to have a lead character be open about being gay.
The sitcom was cancelled in 1998, and started back up again in 2001 with CBS. The show stopped airing on CBS shortly after in 2002. The Ellen Degeneres Show, often abbreviated to Ellen, aired on September 8, 2003 and was instantly a huge hit for her daytime viewers.
The show There are countless segments featured on Ellen, including: Celebrity Pranks, Throwback Thursday, Chat Time With Ellen, Vine After Vine and Just KID-ink. Ellen is great with interacting with the audience. At the beginning of every show, her DJ Twitch puts on some music and she dances through the audience. She also has segments where she picks audience members to play a game and win prizes from her.
Segments Ellen has interviews in each episode, with celebrities or non-celebrities. She interviews actors, singers, athletes, etc. about their most recent work, and they discuss not only their new achievements, but she also has normal conversations with them, creating a welcoming atmosphere for them and the audience. Ellen also interviews people who aren t celebrities, for example: fans that have reached out to her, people who have made a viral video, or have become overnight sensations.

The atmosphere of the show Ellen has a very welcoming attitude towards the audience and all of her fans, which creates a very open environment for everyone. The audience is able to feel connected with Ellen, as if they are talking with her one on one. There is a very comfortable and casual vibe during the show; it doesn t seem scripted or formal and it feels like Ellen is just having a conversation with the crowd.
Even during celebrity interviews, Ellen not only talks to them, but she also has normal conversations about everyday life or current events/fads, etc. Ellen is always willing to make a fool out of herself just to get the crowd laughing, and her openness with the audience is a lot of the reason she is so loved by the masses. Her show covers countless topics and includes so many segments, interviews and performances by a huge variety of people, so there is something for everybody during each episode.
The Influence She brings awareness to the masses by bringing up current issues on her show and saying her opinion about all of it. Ellen doesn t force people to feel one way about a topic, but she encourages her viewers to keep an open mind about the problems in society, and introduces ideas of how to help or improve whatever is going on.
Not only does she discuss issues in society on her show, but she takes action by donating to countless charities and organizations like The Humane Society and St. Jude s Children s Research Hospital.
Ellen s determination has impacted society in numerous ways, and her opinion has influenced the ideas of many people around the world. Ellen challenges everyone to keep an open mind about same sex marriage, and she does everything she can to help the world become a more equal place where we accept each other no matter what our sexuality is.
