Doc Severinsen with the Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra Monday, October 26, 2015 Within a week of his final telecast on The Tonight Show, Doc Severinsen and his Big Band were on the road. To this day, audiences across America love and respect Doc, not just because he shared their living room with them for so many years, but also because of Doc s love of the Big Band repertoire. His musicianship keeps this iconic American music fresh with a repertoire that includes Ellington and Basie standards, pop, jazz, ballads, big band classics, and, of course, The Tonight Show theme. BLUEGRASS Rhonda Vincent and The Rage Friday, January 22, 2016 Known worldwide as the Queen of Bluegrass, Rhonda Vincent has been a musician from her childhood. Since the publication of the Wall Street Journal article fourteen years ago that bestowed Rhonda s royal title, she has become one of the most recognized and honored musicians in the bluegrass genre. Says Vincent of her title, That is an incredible honor.i am just beginning to realize that we are influencing the young musicians we meet or have inspired others to start playing music and to start singing. I take this very seriously and hope that we always represent our wonderful state of Missouri with dignity and class. Vincent has performed both live and in music videos with various country and bluegrass legends including country music great, Dolly Parton and has graced the stage of the iconic Grand Ole Opry on multiple occasions.
Fiesta Mexico-Americana featuring Los Lobos and Ballet Folklorico Mexicano Tuesday, February 16, 2016 Journey into Mexican-American culture as the Grammy Award winning Los Lobos and the renowned Ballet Folklorico Mexicano come together in this multi-media production. Through a combination of song, dance, music, and film, these amazing artists celebrate the many notable achievements and contributions of Mexican-Americans throughout U.S. history. Since the release of their debut album over three decades ago (Just Another Band from East L.A.), Los Lobos has continued to evolve artistically while never losing touch with their humble roots. For this premier production, Los Lobos will be performing with the Ballet Folklorico Mexicano. Founded in 1967, the Ballet Folklorico Mexicano has achieved considerable recognition in both the United States and Mexico for their colorful and inspirational performances consisting of over 120 dances that draw upon the artistic varieties of Mexico s different regions. Kid Koala s Nufonia Must Fall Friday, April 8, 2016 Montreal-based scratch DJ and music producer Kid Koala presents a magical, multi-disciplinary adaptation of his graphic novel, Nufonia Must Fall. The story centers around a headphones-sporting robot on the verge of obsolescence who is infatuated with a winsome office drone. Directed by K. K. Barrett, recently Oscar-nominated for Spike Jonze s Her, this live adaptation of the graphic novel unfolds via the real-time filming of more than a dozen intricately-crafted miniature stage settings, in which a cast of puppets interact. Kid Koala and the dynamic Afiara Quartet provide live scoring on piano, strings, and turntables, musically tugging on heartstrings and moving the story forward.
