A guy from the back country, son of a Cossack, a quiet strong man. Once and for all, he remembered the charge of his father: A Cossack gives his word only once be it to his wife or the Czar and he keeps his word until death. And, well, neither the Champion of Champions title, nor the million US dollars, nor the crowds of well-wishers made him betray his beloved woman and his country. This combination of incredible physical strength and kindness, his commitment to ideals and readiness to sacrifice everything for their sake makes up for our character. The life and sports achievements of Ivan Poddubny is a moving and powerful story of the national hero, an idiosyncratic quintessence of a Russian man.
A Russian professional wrestler, athlete, Honored Artist of RSFSR (1939), Honored Master of Sports (1945). From 1893 until 1896 he worked as a porter at Sebastopol and Feodosiya ports. In 1897, he began his career as a circus athlete and wrestler. In 1905-1908, he won the greatest championships and became World Champion in French professional wrestling. In the 40 years of fighting, he never lost a single tournament. Poddubny extensively toured abroad (50 cities, 14 countries). He left the ring in 1941 aged 70. He received multiple awards, including the Champion of Champions, Russian Athlete. His wife was a gymnast and a circus performer. She tragically died, while performing a circus trick.
In 2008, the «Ivan Poddubny» project received a blessing from HIS HOLINESS ALEKSIY, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia To the creators, the actors and film crew of the Ivan Poddubny film project! Moral education of a human being is one of the top priorities that we face this day and in this age. In today s complicated and unstable world where spiritual and moral values and traditions constantly undergo revaluation it is especially difficult for the youth to search for their spiritual footing and meaning of life. Moral ethics should be at the core of upbringing children and adolescents, as well as the concept that absolute good exists. It is gratifying that you realize the importance and responsibility of the project you conceived, the project which is supposed to have a direct impact on the inner world of people who will be watching this release. Being a rare example in the cinematography business, the Ivan Poddubny project is destined to contribute to the national film art and is bound to confront the spreading immorality and permissiveness. Taking into account the importance of this film, I would like to wish that you film industry professionals continue to wholeheartedly serve our Motherland. Let Divine assistance guide you in your process of this film making and revival in the Russian state of the original traditions of our people.
Those who would break the world s best wrestlers without remorse and slightest uneasiness. He was as strong as a hurricane. Of all the law of life he only adhered to on, homo homini lupus est" (Dog eat dog). He steadfastly followed this principle. He was incomparable in pushoffs.. If, as it sometimes happened, his adversary would foolhardily resist, Ivan would step on his foot on the floor. He was scary not just to Russians but to all international wrestlers: He would throw them if not break them " From Wrestlers album (1917)
