3.2 TV, ALT, TV GUIDE, LANGUAGE AND MUTE BUTTONS The five buttns at the tp f the remte cntrl each have a secndary functin (smetimes als referred t as the shifted mde). If yu have nt first pressed SHIFT, these buttns d the fllwing : TV : always take yu t Live TV. If yu are watching in the buffer, pressing TV takes yu t Live TV n the current channel. If yu are watching in playback, pressing TV stps playback and takes yu t Live TV n the current channel. ALT : ges t the last viewed channel. TV GUIDE : ges t the TV Guide. LANGUAGE : Displays the Language / Sundtrack pp-up. MUTE : switches the audi n r ff (depends n the current audi status). T activate the secndary functinality, press SHIFT fllwed by the required buttn. After pressing SHIFT, the SHIFT buttn will flash, cnfirming the mde f the remte cntrl. It is nt necessary t hld bth buttns dwn at the same time. SHIFT TV : ges t the Audi Buquet. SHIFT ALT : displays the Subtitles / Teletext pp-up (Nte : Subtitles / Teletext are nt currently available n the HD PVR). SHIFT TV GUIDE : currently disabled. SHIFT LANGUAGE : ges t the Parental Cntrl Menu (Nte : yu need the valid PG PIN cde t enter the Parental Cntrl Menu). SHIFT MUTE : currently disabled. 3.3 THE DIAL The dial shuld be set t TV1 fr use with the HD PVR. The windw in the dial (where yu see TV1) lights up when any buttn is pressed, cnfirming that the remte cntrl is active and that the cmmand has been sent t the decder. 3.4 COLOUR BUTTONS The clur buttns n the remte cntrl have different functins depending n what yu are ding n the HD PVR. When using the Decder Menu r the TV Guide, please refer t the nscreen instructins (at the bttm f the screen) that clearly indicate functinality fr each clur buttn. When viewing TV, the clur buttns d the fllwing : Press the RED buttn t g t the Playlist (see page 26). Press the BLUE buttn t insert a Bkmark (see page 28). Press the WHITE buttn t watch in slw mtin (see page 28). Press the YELLOW buttn t display the Status Bar (see page 17). The GREEN buttn is currently disabled in viewing mde. 3.5 ACTION BUTTONS Buttn While watching Live TV While watching a recrding (playback) STOP REWIND (See page 30) Disabled if there are n recrdings in prgress. 4 THE BASICS 4.1 THE I-PLATE : NORMAL The infrmatin plate (i-plate) is displayed when yu press i. 1 Instructin bar prvides helpful infrmatin as well as ptins available. 2 i-plate Header. 3 Starting times f prgramme. 4 Current time. 5 Channel number & name. 6 Tday s date. 7 PVR Icns (see page 18). 8 Prgramme titles. 9 PG Lck & PG Rating. 10 Press the DOWN arrw t access prgramming infrmatin fr the next 24 hurs n this channel. The clur f the i-plate indicates the viewing mde (see page 11). A blue header indicates that yu are in ALL CHANNELS. A purple header indicates that yu are in FAVOURITE CHANNELS. 4.2 THE I-PLATE WHEN BANNER BROWSING If yu want t see what is n ther channels, yu can press i t display the i-plate and then use the left and right arrws t view the prgramming infrmatin fr ther channels. We call this banner brwsing. HD PVR Viewer s Guide V1.02 Page 9 f 30

4.3 THE I-PLATE : EXTENDED MODE T see mre infrmatin n a highlighted prgramme, press i t display the extended infrmatin. 4.4 VIEWING MODES The HD PVR has tw viewing mdes - All Channels r Favurite Channels. What s the difference? In All Channels mde, ALL available channels are displayed, including thse t which yu are nt subscribed. In Favurite Channels mde, nly the channels yu selected as yur Favurite Channels are available when yu banner brwse r surf thrugh the channels, s n tripping ver unwanted channels. (Fr mre n hw t set up yur Favurite Channels, see page 20.) The clur f the i-plate indicates the viewing mde. A blue header indicates that yu are in ALL CHANNELS. A purple header indicates that yu are in FAVOURITE CHANNELS. When viewing Live TV, yu can switch mdes by pressing TV and selecting the ther mde frm the pp-up which displays. 4.5 THE CHANNEL GRIDS There are tw channel grids n the HD PVR, the All Channels Grid and the Favurite Channels Grid (ne fr each viewing mde). The channel grid is a quick way t tune between channels r t quickly access prgramming inf fr anther channel. When watching TV, press the LEFT, RIGHT r DOWN arrw t display the All Channels Grid. When watching TV, press the UP arrw t display the Favurite Channels Grid. Use the arrws t mve the highlight and press OK t tune t the selected channel, r press i t display extended inf. 4.6 REMINDERS There are tw types f reminders. These can be used t either remind yu f a prgramme r t autmatically tune the decder t a channel at a specific time. A Banner reminder will display a pp-up at the start f the prgramme fr which yu set the reminder. Yu can ignre the reminder r chse t tune t the selected prgramme by pressing OK. An Auttune reminder can tune the decder t anther channel, but will first display a pp-up at the start f the prgramme fr which yu set the reminder. Yu can cancel the reminder r tune t the selected prgramme. If yu d nthing, the decder will autmatically tune t the selected channel. Hw t Set a Reminder T set a banner reminder, select the required prgramme (either n the i-plate r TV Guide) and press OK. A appears next t the prgramme, cnfirming that a banner reminder has been set. T change the reminder frm a banner t an auttune, press OK again. The icn changes t a cnfirming that an auttune banner has been set. All scheduled reminders are listed n the Reminders screen. Hw t Delete a Reminder Optin 1 : T delete the reminder, highlight the prgramme which has the auttune reminder set fr it and press OK. Optin 2 : Yu can als delete reminders by ging t the Reminders screen. The Reminders Screen This screen lists all reminders that have been set. T g t the Reminders screen, press RED t g t the Playlist and then press the RIGHT arrw twice). Frm this screen yu can delete scheduled reminders (by pressing RED) r srt the list f reminders (by pressing WHITE). HD PVR Viewer s Guide V1.02 Page 12 f 30

4.7 INTERACTIVE SERVICES & DSTV TOUCH SuperSprt Active is currently the nly interactive service available. T access SuperSprt Active, press OK t display the DStv tuch menu and then press OK again t lad SuperSprt Active. Interactive Services are nly available when viewing Live TV, ie. yu cannt access DStv tuch when viewing in the buffer r in Playback. Using Interactive Services clears the buffer. HD PVR Viewer s Guide V1.02 Page 13 f 30

4.8 PARENTAL CONTROL The HD PVR has a Parental Cntrl feature t cntrl viewing in yur hme. Access t this feature is cntrlled by the PG PIN cde. T g t Parental Cntrl menu : Press MENU t g t the Decder Menu, then select #2 (Parental Cntrl), r Press TV GUIDE t g t the TV Guide, then press BLUE. The default PG PIN cde is 1234. If the PG PIN cde is entered incrrectly 5 times it is blcked. If this happens, yu will need t call yur nearest MultiChice Cntact Centre t have it reset. Glbal Blcking Glbal Blcking Optins : N Blck : all prgrammes are cleared fr viewing. Parental levels d nt apply. Ttal Blck : all prgrammes are blcked and can nly be viewed with the valid PG PIN cde. Persnalise : select what yu want t blck based n PG settings. If yu select Persnalise, yu must select a Parental Guidance Setting (#2). Parental Guidance Settings If yu select Persnalise as the Glbal Blcking ptin, yu need t select a Parental Guidance Setting. Nne : all prgrammes are cleared fr viewing. FAM : FAM rated prgrammes are cleared fr viewing. All thers are blcked. PG 13 : FAM and PG13 rated prgrammes are cleared fr viewing. All thers are blcked. 16 : FAM, PG13 and 16 rated prgrammes are cleared fr viewing. All thers are blcked. 18 : FAM, PG13, 16 and 18 rated prgrammes are cleared fr viewing. All thers are blcked. Changing the PG PIN Cde Changing the PG PIN Cde : Press BLUE n the Parental Cntrl Menu. Enter the new PIN cde twice (the PIN cde can be any 4 digits). Press OK t cnfirm the new PIN cde. Channel Blcking This ptin differs frm Glbal Blcking as it allws yu t blck an entire channel. The channel can nly be viewed n entering the valid PG PIN cde. Press WHITE t edit. Select the channels yu want t blck and press the WHITE buttn t blck them. Once a channel is blcked, press WHITE t unblck it. Press RED t unblck all channels. Press OK t cnfirm yur selectin. 4.9 LANGUAGE SELECTION Sme prgrammes have multiple language r sundtrack ptins available. Fr a list f available ptins n the prgramme that yu are viewing, press the LANGUAGE buttn. 4.10 SUBTITLES / TELETEXT Subtitles and Teletext are nt currently supprted n the HD PVR. 4.11 DSTV AUDIO CHANNELS DStv has a great selectin f audi channels available. T g t the audi channels, yu can : Press SHIFT TV, r Press TV GUIDE and select the required audi channel frm the All Channels list. T return t TV channels, press SHIFT TV again. 5 PVR BASICS 5.1 THE BUFFER The buffer is the part f the hard disk that temprarily recrds Live TV and allws yu t pause r rewind Live TV. On the HD PVR, the buffer always stres the last 120 minutes r up t the last time yu changed channels (if within the last 120 minutes). The buffer is cleared : When yu change channels. When the decder is reset. When the decder is rescanned. When the decder is in autmatic standby. When yu use an Interactive Service. 5.2 WHAT IS LIVE TV? Live TV is when yu are watching prgrammes as they are being bradcast, ie. yu have nt pressed pause. Hw d I knw when I m watching Live TV? Press i t display the i-plate. If yu are watching Live TV, the Live TV icn is displayed in the tp right crner. If yu are watching behind Live TV, ie. frm the buffer, a timer is displayed in the tp right crner indicating hw far yu are behind Live TV. 5.3 AUTOMATIC STANDBY (ALSO KNOWN AS SLEEP MODE) T extend the lifespan f the HD PVR, yu have the ptin t disable the hard drive during perids when yu are nt using the PVR. When the HD PVR is in autmatic standby, the hard disk ges t sleep. T set Autmatic Standby : Press MENU Select Persnalise G t #7 (Autmatic Standby) Use the arrw keys t select the required time perid (The HD PVR will autmatically g int standby after the selected perid f inactivity). Recrdings are nt impacted by standby and still take place if the decder is in autmatic standby. 5.4 THE STATUS BAR Whether watching a recrding, frm the buffer r Live TV, pressing the YELLOW buttn displays the Status Bar. The Status Bar is a helpful feature indicating yur current viewing psitin. A timer f 00:10:00 means that yu are 10 minutes behind Live TV. They may als be displayed in extended infrmatin screens. Scheduled Recrding. Yu are watching a recrding. Recrding in Prgress. This is Live TV. Recurring Scheduled Recrding. Yu can set recurring Time Based Recrdings (see page 24). Recurring Recrding in Prgress. This cntent is in the buffer, ie. yu are watching behind Live TV. Alert Icn. This appears n the Playlist r Schedules Recrdings screens. T get mre inf n why the alert icn is displayed, press i. 6.2 ONSCREEN PVR ICONS These icns appear nscreen each time yu change channel as well as when the i-plate is displayed. PVR Recrding icn This indicates a recrding in prgress as well as the channel details and the time remaining. PVR Recrding Errr icn This indicates an errr with a recrding in prgress and is mst likely caused by lss f signal. It may als indicate an errr n tuner 2 r 3. The recrding will nt resume fllwing an errr. PVR Pause Live TV icn This indicates that Live TV has been paused and the time behind Live TV. The blue line is where yu paused the prgramme, the red line indicates Live TV. PVR Play icn This indicates that yu are watching buffer cntent and the time behind Live TV. The green is what yu have viewed and the yellw is what yu still have t view (t catch up t Live TV). PVR Playback Fast Frward icn This indicates that yu are fast frwarding the recrding. 6.3 PVR HARD DISK USAGE Disk space usage is displayed by icns in the Playlist, Scheduled Recrdings and Reminders screens. This icn appears nscreen when yu have less than 10% disk space. Remember t delete yur recrdings nce yu have watched them t ensure that yu always have space fr new recrdings. 7 THE TV GUIDE Yu can g t the TV Guide by pressing the TV GUIDE buttn at any time. While using the TV Guide, the channel r recrding that yu were watching cntinues t play in the tp right hand crner. The TV Guide has three sectins : Favurite Channels. All Channels. Playlist. 7.1 FAVOURITE CHANNELS Selecting yur Favurite Channels will : Create a persnalised TV Guide, listing the infrmatin fr just these channels. Create a persnalised "viewing mde", which includes nly these channels. This means that when "surfing" thrugh the channels, yu n lnger see channels that are nt available t yu r may nt be f interest t yu. See page 11. Create a Favurite Channels Grid - listing nly the channels yu selected, making it easier t tune between channels. See page 11. Once yu have selected yur Favurite Channels, a persnalised TV Guide is displayed. Yu can update yur selectin f Favurite Channels at any time. Press TV Guide. Select Favurite Channels. Press WHITE. Recrd a prgramme using the i-plate. 3. Recrd a prgramme using a Channel Grid. 4. Recrd a prgramme using the TV Guide. 5. Recrd a specific time slt : Recrd a specific time slt nce. Recrd a specific time slt n a recurring basis. Recrd what I m watching (impulse recrding) When watching Live TV, press REC at any time t instantly start a recrding f what yu are watching. What Nw? The PVR Recrding icn will appear nscreen, cnfirming the start f the recrding. The recrding will autmatically stp at the end f the prgramme. The recrding will be listed in the Playlist with an ALERT icn, indicating a partial recrding. What else can I d? Yu can extend the recrding (see page 28). Yu can stp the recrding (see page 28). What else culd happen? The PVR Recrding Errr icn (indicating a prblem) might appear (see page 18). If the recrding request cnflicts with existing recrdings, a pp-up will be displayed indicating that the recrding cannt be scheduled. Yu cannt set an impulse recrding frm the buffer. The prgramme will nly recrd frm when yu press REC, ie. it will be a partial recrding. T set-up a time based recrding, press RED t g t the Playlist and then the RIGHT arrw t g t the Scheduled Recrdings screen. Press BLUE t g t the set-up screen fr time based recrdings. Name Channel Frequency Start Date Start Time End Time Lck / Unlck The name f this recrding as it will appear in the Scheduled Recrdings r Playlist screens. T change the default name, press the LEFT arrw t delete the default name and use the number keys n the remte cntrl t type a new name. Which channel d yu want t recrd? The default is the ne which yu are currently tuned t. Hw ften shuld this recrding be scheduled? The default is Once. Yur ptins are nce, daily, weekly r n weekdays. On which date shuld this recrding start? The default is tday s date. Enter the start time using the number keys n the remte cntrl. The default is the current time. Nte : the time must be entered in the 24 hur frmat, 3pm = 15:00. Enter the end time using the number keys n the remte cntrl. The default is the current time + 1 hur. Nte : the time must be entered in the 24 hur frmat, 3pm = 15:00. Lcking the scheduled recrding ensures that nbdy can delete yur prgramme. What Nw? A single time based recrding is listed in the Scheduled Recrdings screen. Fr recurring time based recrdings, nly the next tw incidents are listed in the Scheduled Recrdings screen. What else can I d? Yu can cancel scheduled recrdings (see page 25). What else culd happen? If the recrding request cnflicts with existing recrdings, a pp-up will be displayed indicating that the recrding cannt be scheduled. If the time fr the time based recrding exceeds 12 hurs, a pp-up will be displayed indicating that the recrding cannt be scheduled. Safety net settings t d nt apply t time based recrdings. 9 VIEWING YOUR RECORDINGS 9.1 THE PLAYLIST The Playlist is where yu find all the prgrammes yu have recrded. Yu get t chse what yu want t watch, when yu want t watch it! T ensure that yu always have space fr new recrdings, remember t delete recrdings that yu have already watched and n lnger want t keep. Selecting a recrding t watch Press RED t g t the Playlist and select a prgramme t watch. Press OK t start. What Nw? The prgramme will start playing and yu are nw in playback mde. The i-plate will be aqua blue. This indicates that yu are watching a recrding. What else can I d? Yu can pause, fast frward r rewind the prgramme. Yu can als watch in slw mtin (see pages 28, 29 & 30). Yu can set a bkmark (see page 28). Yu can press STOP t stp playback and return t the Playlist. What else culd happen? If the recrding has been partially viewed, a pp-up displays with ptins t resume frm where yu left ff r t start frm the beginning. If the recrding is PG blcked, yu first need t enter the crrect PG PIN cde. Why is there ften mre than ne prgramme listed n the Playback i-plate, when I nly recrded ne prgramme? The prgramme yu recrded is usually secnd n the list. The PVR inserts a safety net at the beginning and end f each scheduled recrding t ensure as much as pssible, that variances in actual bradcast times d nt impact yur recrdings. 10 OTHER FEATURES 10.1 EXTENDING A RECORDING IN PROGRESS Yu can extend the recrding f any recrding in prgress. Select the prgramme being recrded in the i-plate, TV Guide, Playlist r Scheduled Recrdings screen. Press i t display the extended infrmatin, then press BLUE t extend the recrding and fllw the nscreen instructins. If the recrding extensin cannt be accmmdated due t cnflict with ther existing scheduled recrdings, an errr message is displayed. 10.2 STOPPING A RECORDING IN PROGRESS Yu can stp any recrding in prgress. Press STOP. An nscreen banner is displayed. Select the recrding yu want t stp and press OK. The recrding will be listed in the Playlist with an ALERT icn, indicating a partial recrding. 10.3 BOOKMARKS A bkmark marks a selected place in a recrded prgramme and allws yu t easily find yur favurite mments and watch them again. S, while yu are watching a recrding, yu culd set a bkmark fr each try f the rugby match and later, watch them all again, ne after anther. Setting a bkmark When watching a recrding, press BLUE t set a bkmark. The status bar is displayed and the BLUE triangle inserted t indicate the bkmark. Using bkmarks T view yur bkmarks, press YELLOW t display the status bar. Once the status bar is displayed, use the LEFT and RIGHT arrws t jump t the bkmark(s). Deleting bkmarks T view yur bkmarks, press YELLOW t display the status bar. Once the status bar is displayed, use the LEFT and RIGHT arrws t jump t the bkmark yu want t delete. Then press the BLUE buttn. The BLUE triangle which indicated the bkmark is deleted. 10.4 SLOW MOTION Yu are able t view prgrammes in slw mtin. Press the WHITE buttn t watch the actin in slw mtin. Press the WHITE buttn again t watch at even a slwer pace. Press the WHITE buttn a third time t return t nrmal speed. HD PVR Viewer s Guide V1.02 Page 28 f 30

10.5 THE SAFETY NET When yu schedule a recrding, the HD PVR autmatically adds 3 minutes t the beginning and 10 minutes t the end f the recrding (s lng as the safety net desn t clash with ther existing recrdings). Yu can change the default settings fr the safety net. T d this : Press MENU t g t the Decder Menu. Select Persnalise. G t #4 (Safety Net Settings). Press WHITE t edit. Change the settings and press OK t save. The new setting will nly take effect n recrdings scheduled after yu made the change, ie. recrdings already scheduled retain the previus safety net settings. The PVR will eliminate the safety net t avid cnflict. Example : yu have tw recrdings set frm 10:00-11:00 (09:57-11:10 with default safety net). If yu want t schedule a recrding fr 11:00 12:00, the PVR drps the safety net f ne f the recrdings t ensure that this recrding can be accmmdated. It will nly delete the safety net at the time it needs t start the next recrding. 10.6 FAST FORWARDING There are three ways t fast frward : 1. Using the Play/Pause buttn : Optin 1 Mve and hld the Play/Pause buttn t the right and when yu have reached the crrect pint, release the Play/Pause buttn. 2. Using the Play/Pause buttn : Optin 2 Press the Play/Pause buttn t pause the prgramme. Nw nudge the Play/Pause buttn nce t the right. The nscreen icn indicates the fast frward speed with tw arrws in the PVR Play icn. T increase the fast frward speed, nudge the Play/Pause buttn t the right nce mre. T fast frward at the highest speed, nudge the Play/Pause buttn t the right nce mre. T stp fast frwarding, press the Play/Pause buttn again (t pause) and then again (t resume). 3. Using the Status Bar Press YELLOW t display the status bar. Mve the Play/Pause buttn t the right t mve the blue line in the status bar. The nscreen icn indicates the rewind speed with tw arrws in the PVR Play icn. T increase the rewind speed, nudge the Play/Pause buttn t the left nce mre. T rewind at the highest speed, nudge the Play/Pause buttn t the left nce mre. T stp rewinding, press the Play/Pause buttn again (t pause) and then again (t resume). 3. Using the Status Bar Press YELLOW t display the status bar. Mve the Play/Pause buttn t the left t mve the blue line in the status bar. When yu have reached the crrect pint, release the Play/Pause buttn. When in Live TV r Playback, the ptin f instant replay is als available.
